A Bastard's Allure-Chapter 101: Bleak
Golden was the usual color of his eyes, or a subtle red if he was provoked. But right now, they were a mixture of gold and silver, a combination Elena had never seen before. His aura had changed into an intimidating one, and every step he took seemed to leave a trail to salvation.
The room grew eerily silent save for the sound of his boots clicking against the marble floor and racing hearts. His moonlit eyes were now fixated on the little boy in Lord Atticus’ side.
Lord Atticus pushed the boy behind him before swallowing the lump in his throat when they came face to face with Gabriel.
"Hand him over," he commanded the unmoving Lord, his voice thin as ice.
Elena panicked when Gabriel’s claws grew longer. Before he could do something stupid, she walked over to him.
"What are you doing Gabriel?" She asked.
Instead, Gabriel stood unmoving, his eyes fixated on the prize. The silver glow was almost replacing the gold in them, every voice turning into distant background noise.
He didn’t know how it happened but he knew it was a truth spell. All he had to do was grab someone’s neck and stare into their eyes before they spilled the truth. He’d seen his mother do it once with the knight in the dungeon.
But the spell didn’t work as he had anticipated. He’d set out to extract the truth out of Lord Atticus but his eyes found the little boy hiding behind the old man. And now the person standing in front of him appeared to be nothing but a distraction he had to get out of his way.
He felt his claws lengthen and an itch in his gums as his fangs found their way to scratch his lips. As if baying for blood, he run his tongue over the tips of his fangs before he grabbed Lord Atticus by the neck.
Elena’s heart skipped a beat as Gabriel raised the old man a few inches from the ground while choking the life out of him.
"Gabriel?" She called again, but he didn’t move an inch. The other court officials were already on their feet, ready to leave at any immediate danger. The herald gave an order to summon the palace guards.
Gabriel squeezed Lord Atticus’ neck for a fleeting couple of seconds before he tossed him aside as if weightless. The old man fell hard on the floor, probably breaking a bone or two.
But that was none of Gabriel’s concern. His eyes shifted to the little boy who was now cowering behind a chair, taking short and steady steps until his back met with the solid wall. His eyes was set on the prize and there was no going back.
He spread his fingers ready to choke the truth out of the little brat when someone stood on his way. The double doors opened at the same time as a group of knights came to the rescue. They unsheathed their blades but Elena stopped them with a gesture of her hand.
There had to be a way to bring him back before he did anything regrettable. Right now, she was the only person standing between his way and the truth!
"Gabriel? You have to stop this," she pleaded. Her blue eyes searched a spark of life in his but they just stared back at him, void of any humanity or emotions. They had turned a shade of silver now it scared her. He looked like a... assassin sculpture!
But he had not yet moved, strangely. He was still rooted at the same spot, eyes dead staring at whatever it was he was looking at because it was not clearly her. Even if he was looking at her, she couldn’t tell.
His head tilted slightly to the left as if battling with something within himself. He clenched his fists, his claws digging into his flesh. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"You have to fight it, Gabriel," she motivated, taking a step closer. She saw him stiffen before he raised his eyes again to look at her. There was a spark of gold in both his eyes now, gradually taking over the silver one.
"I knew you’d come back," she said, stretching her hand to caress his face. But his eyes momentarily shifted to the boy leaning on the wall, his eyes drastically shifting to a shade of silver again. Before Elena’s hand could reach his face, he grabbed her by the neck, his intent to kill now raw.
Elena tried to gasp for air as he lifted her off the ground. The knights wanted to intervene but Lord Atticus made them halt. If she’d die, it’d be one claim less, and not in their hands but her husband’s.
Gabriel’s desire to kill had never been this great. He’d spared the first person who stood on his way but the second one wouldn’t have that chance. His grip on her neck tightened as she struggled under his firm hold. Her legs dangled in the air to defy death itself when there was no escape.
"How dare you stand in the way of truth?" He asked, his voice raspy and deep.
Elena whimpered in the mercy of his hands; her chance to life or death. And death...she was halfway there already.
Her popped eyes searched for his in the bleak fleeting seconds. His was a solid silver gaze, void of any emotions. If the eyes were a doorway to the soul, then his was sealed forever. At that moment, the sane thought that came into her mind was to caress his face.
She started on the arm holding her, slowly snaking her way up until she held his face. Her fingers touched his thin lips and parted them slightly as if inviting him for a kiss. And with the little energy or life she was left with, she forced out some words through her choking throat.
"Kiss me."
It was a hoarse voice, but one loud enough to reach his ears. ’Kiss me!’ It echoed in his mind like a siren call. And just as she went limp in his grip, his eyes tirned back to the normal golden orbs. But the sight that welcomed him brought his vampire heart to a momentarily halt.
