70s Delicate Girl: A Guide to Being a Rich Woman-Chapter 376: Old Kids
Hearing there were crabs, Xu Mumu immediately became interested. Back at her hometown, she could only eat those small river crabs, and never got to eat those big hairy crabs.
Yin Yang looked at Xu Mumu’s happy face. Could crabs be more attractive than him? What a bummer.
When the two of them returned to the little courtyard, Mrs. Liu was already busy washing the crabs. The two dogs were running around her, trying to bite the crabs.
But the crabs were still alive, and a big dog got its nose pinched and cried out miserably, shaking its nose until it finally threw the crab away.
"Stupid dog." Yin Yang glanced disdainfully at the two dogs.
"Luckily, there’s no bleeding, or else we’d have to put some medicine on it." Xu Mumu held the big dog to check it, and seeing no wounds on its nose, she couldn’t be bothered. The little rascal is quite mischievous every day.
"Mrs. Liu, how are you planning to cook these crabs tonight?" Xu Mumu asked as she looked at the big crabs, quietly swallowing her saliva, with various ways of eating crabs flashing through her mind.
"Do you want them steamed plain or spicy, or with garlic?" Mrs. Liu retrieved the crab that had been tossed away by the big dog while looking at Xu Mumu and asked.
"Let’s have some steamed, and the rest spicy." Xu Mumu licked her lips and said.
"Alright, we can make that many." Mrs. Liu said with a smile.
"If you like them, next time I’ll ask Yun Hong to get more." Yin Yang said kindly. Not many sell crabs here, so it was just good luck that Zhou Yunhong got some this time.
"Great, this is the perfect time to eat crabs, with their roe so thick." Xu Mumu said excitedly.
"Whatever you say." Yin Yang nodded with a smile.
When Professor Song and the others returned, the aroma of the crabs could already be smelled, and Professor Shen and Professor An also came along, making the little courtyard even more lively.
The crab feast in the evening was warmly welcomed by the professors. Professor Shen looked at Professor Jian and said, "Old Jian, Old Song, your lives are just too comfortable."
"It’s alright, just put on a few pounds, that’s all." Professor Jian patted his belly. Mrs. Liu’s cooking skills are excellent, and even though he’s not particularly focused on food, he couldn’t help but eat more every day, gaining a bit of weight as he aged.
Professor An and Professor Shen both felt envious; the fellow was bragging.
"Ah, I seem to have gained a bit of weight too. Besides eating these, there are so many nutritional supplements every day, I’ve had enough." Professor Song feigned a troubled look. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
Professor Shen and Professor An: "...." Fists clenched, thinking of the trivial matters piling up at home and looking at the life of these two old men, made them envious.
Although Xu Mumu would occasionally send them things, there were still other people at home. Professor Shen and Professor An both had sons and grandsons, and though their life at home was passable, it wasn’t that great.
"If Grandpa Shen and Grandpa An like, you can come over every day to eat. Mrs. Liu’s cooking is really good." Xu Mumu said with a smile. The old kids are getting more childish.
"Forget it, someone is cooking at my house every day." Professor Shen waved it off; there’s food at home, what’s the point of always running to someone else’s place to eat?
"Exactly, nowhere near as lively as my place, I have more people in my family." Professor An added, not forgetting to give Professor Song and Professor Jian a smug glance after speaking.
"We aren’t lacking people here either." Professor Song replied without hesitation.
But a trace of gloom passed through Professor Jian’s eyes; now he was just a lonely man, and he was indeed a bit envious of these old friends.
"Grandpa Jian, have some water. What are you thinking about? You still have me. Are you not considering me your granddaughter anymore?" Xu Mumu poured a cup of tea for Professor Jian, coquettishly looking at him, having noticed his gloom right away.
"Of course, you’re my granddaughter." Professor Jian’s face turned stern, and the gloom in his heart vanished instantly. Indeed, now he has a granddaughter too—a well-behaved and sensible one, who can even inherit his legacy. He’s very satisfied with this granddaughter.
"That’s better, try some of the flower tea I made; I didn’t add honey today." Xu Mumu said with a smile.
Professor Jian doesn’t really like sweet things, which Xu Mumu had noticed long ago.
After a sip of the tea, Professor Jian felt a warmth in his heart, and he looked at Xu Mumu with even more kindness.
"By the way, have you decided who to take to the academic conference arranged by the school?" Professor An asked, realizing he had misspoken, but seeing Professor Jian’s spirits had improved, he changed the subject.
"Mumu, do you want to go?" Professor Song turned to Xu Mumu. Given her level, there was really no need for her to attend the academic conference.
"I’ll pass, I don’t like such bustling places. Grandpa Song, you don’t just have me as a student." Xu Mumu said helplessly, not really fond of such gatherings. She’d rather stay in the little courtyard next door working on her research.
"Alright, I’ll just assess some of my students over the next few days and have them go." Professor Song didn’t push. Having lived with Xu Mumu for over six months, they knew her disposition well enough—she wasn’t the competitive type.
Though academic conferences can indeed broaden networks, with a few of them around, she never lacked that. Naturally, she could do whatever she wanted to.
After the professors left and with no classes in the afternoon, Xu Mumu and Yin Yang went next door to conduct their research.
Xu Mumu was holding a pen, drawing circuit diagrams, while Yin Yang talked about the solar generator.
"They’ve already made a prototype; the experiment was very successful," Yin Yang’s gentle voice came through.
"That’s great news." Xu Mumu nodded.
"Indeed it is. Someone should come to see you in the next few days, and the rewards should be substantial." Yin Yang said with a smile, knowing this was the part Xu Mumu loved hearing most. He and Huo Qingze had also helped Xu Mumu secure a lot.
While some benefits aren’t immediately apparent, in the long run, they do pay off.
"My boyfriend is really capable." Xu Mumu’s eyes lit up indeed; she wished for some tangible benefits, like getting a house or some precise experimental equipment.
"Of course, with Mumu working so hard, I naturally have to strive even more." Yin Yang said warmly.
"Then let’s work hard together, boyfriend." Xu Mumu said with a smile, suddenly looking forward to what those people might bring her.
