"Where are we going? What if people recognize us?"Hazel asked, for the third time of the two walking to God knows where.
Zaiden himself, would only assure her that she would like it without assuring her if they were safe if the citizens recognized them.
There was a huge rumour about their wedding,that his female fans and admirers were sad that they were about to lose him to her.
So,them going out without any protection was risky, besides,the murderer hasn’t been put into custody,making her feel bad about this sudden patrol of his, throughout the city.
"Are you scared they might hurt you if they recognize us?"He asked,with a smile on his face while he watched her face crumble at the thoughts of people finding them.
She nodded,still keeping her face away fro his eyes. He didn’t know what’s intimidating about his eyes that she wasn’t able to look into his eyes to talk.
He loved this side of hers that was obedient although her brave side was more hot,but he preferred when she’s not angry at him,she can hurt people with her mere words with it using violence.
"Don’t worry,I will protect you"He declared,and felt her look into his eyes searching for any atom of decept over what he just said,but smiled when she found nothing.
Finally,she was gradually starting to trust him seeing that she could smile in his face without hiding it.
"Come on,we are almost there"He urged,holding his hands out to her for her to take,which she took immediately without having any second thought.
"Hazel,what the hell are you doing?"Hazel asked herself,when he pulled her forward to continue with their stroll.
She couldn’t believe she was following him without anyone knowing that they left the house. As much as she trusted him,she couldn’t deny the bad thoughts that he was trying to get rid of her.
Why would he do that you dumbass?
She heard her conscience ask,for crying out loud she was just being careful,but her heart had already trusted him long before she could even make up her mind to do so.
Honestly speaking,she had thought he was joking when he confessed his feelings to her, taking it as one of his plans to make fun of her,but after today’s press release,she finally decided to give him a chance.
It won’t hurt to try again at trusting him,when he had come clean to her about how miserable he felt for treating her badly, besides,she hadn’t heard or seen him making a call to his ex-girlfriend, Arianna, who she had suspected was the person who he loved.
Although she hadn’t gotten the courage to ask him yet what really happened between the both of them,she decided not to ask but let him tell her when he’s ready to do that. The important thing here was that in the end ,she was the one he chose,not the plastic bimbo.
"Here we are ’’Zaiden’s excited voice breaks her out of her thoughts as she didn’t even realize that they had stopped.
"Omg,I love it here!’’Hazel screamed when they arrived at the famous river,which was off limits to the public due where it was situated, in between the estate of the elite.
It had been her wish to see this river,the way it was portrayed in the newspapers and tv stations about the special effects it had made people more eager to see it but it was only accessed by the rich.
"I knew you would,"Zaiden muttered to himself,watching as she started taking off her shoes. He should have known how over-excited she was to see the famous Zee river.
"What are you doing? Take it off"Hazel asked, watching him stand fixed in his position,staring right ahead at her as if she was performing a show for his amusement.
"What do you mean what I’m doing? Of course I’m watching you"He asked,smiling like a love sick puppy who couldn’t keep his eyes away from Hazel.
Which was the truth,he should have brought a camera with him while coming here with her,it wouldn’t be a bad idea to take a photo of her besides the zee river.
"Take off your shoes ,we are going in"Hazel said,standing straight to look at him,waving his head declining her request.
"No I’m not"He declined.
’`Why not?’’She asked surprised,was he for real? He was here in the Zee river and he didn’t want to touch the water, touching the water was a blessing for their upcoming marriage ceremony.
The zee river had it’s belief that whoever steps his feets in it, would get three wishes come true,a lot of which the lucky ones who got to be here confessed it to be true.
"Why?Like who doesn’t want to dip their feets into the river knowing it’s a legend?"She sarcastically asked, laughing at his refusal.
"Because i don’t want to,I just brought you here to see the river because i guessed you might like it here"He answered,but this time he wasn’t looking straight at her face which she found suspicious.
Walking up to him,she stood in front of him and tilted her head up to his eye level.
"You don’t want to or you are trying to hide the fact that you are scared of the water"Hazel saw his eyes widen at her declaration.
"How did you know?’’Zaiden asked,did his mom snitch on him to her or was it just pure luck that she could see through him that he was scared.
No one knew of this except his dad and mother and now,Hazel who he didn’t intend on finding out anytime soon.
"I figured,now stop being a scaredy cat and take it off, nothing’s going to happen while I’m here"she said, squatting down to take off his shoe while he’s still in a faze at how smart she was at figuring out his alibi.
Okay,he underestimated her,she’s smart.
"I will protect you"she said, when she stood up to still find him staring at her,with those killer blue orbs of his that was her weakness.
"Come on"she dragged him,while rushing happily towards the river banks,she sat down likewise the hesitant Zaiden who didn’t like the idea of what he was doing but had to comply because of her and also because he didn’t want her to laugh at how scared he was right now.
"Aww,it’s refreshing!’’She exclaimed the moment her legs touched the flowing water that barely reached her ankles, turning to him who smiled immediately to hide his discomfort.
"Yeah,I guess so"He faked exclaimed,what she did next stunned him, because she moved closer to where he was,taking his left hand into her right one to rub softly on it.
"I’m okay"He said,suddenly shy at her affection, moments ago,she was the shy one but now,he was finding it hard to breathe or talk while the angel beside him was making everything hard for him.
"Yeah,I wanted to hold your hands,you know I’ve envisioned coming here with my lover"she said gleefully,looking at him briefly before turning to look at the glistening water that shone under the moonlight.
He smiled at her words,happy at the fact that he just fulfilled one of her wishes, surprisingly he seemed to calm down his nervousness when she held his hands,he wasn’t afraid of the water because he’s here with her.
There was a minute of silence between the two as they stood under the moonlight,with their feets still under the water.
"It started when I was five,I nearly drowned in the pool,Nathan was the cause"Zaiden explained,breaking the silence between them by telling her the cause of his fear for water.
"I certainly didn’t like him in the first place,he creeps me off,why would he push you inside the water?"Hazel asked, getting angry at Nathan which made Zaiden smile,finally calming his suspicion towards her that she likes Nathan and not him.
"It’s just Nathan,he has this issue and has been that way since birth,don’t worry you will get used to him soon"He said laughing at her,Nathan can be creepy sometimes it’s not new if she had witnessed that side of him.
"Yh, he’s just like the Boogeyman,I just don’t like him"
"So,tell me about yourself,"Zaiden said, getting intrigued to know more about her. Aside from what he knew about her,he still figured out that there was a lot he didn’t know.
"What about me?"She asked, folding her arms to stare into his eyes.
What’s his sudden interest to know things about her?
"I don’t know you tell me"
"Well, there’s nothing special about me,I’m an orphan which you know that,I lived with my best friend Sunny" 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"I know that Hazel,I just want to know things others don’t know about you"Zaiden said ,grabbing her hand to pull her attention back to him,looking into her eyes he noticed the fear in them.
She was hiding something from him which he knew she wouldn’t tell him,he didn’t want to live with her knowing that she was keeping things from him,not when he has decided to open up his heart towards her.
"I want to know more about you Hazel,if only you are willing to open up to me "He said, staring into her unsure grey eyes that were looking at him fearfully.
"Aish! I’m feeling cold all of a sudden,I guess I’ve stayed too long"Hazel feigned this, retracting her hands from Zaiden’s and stood up, leaving him to pick up her shoe,from where it lay.
She couldn’t tell him about her sickness,not yet,Sunny who she trusted wholeheartedly doesn’t even know,so,telling Zaiden who she was starting to trust was risky.
She knew it was selfish of her to keep this away from him,but she couldn’t help it. What’s the use of telling him about the sickness that was going to end her life in a few months time?
She didn’t want to feel bad but it hurts knowing that once the family gets to know that she fooled all of them and used herself,they would regret ever getting to know her.
She didn’t want to imagine the horrified look on their faces once they found out,so,it was just better for everyone to stay in the dark until her time is over,she would leave quietly, without anyone knowing where she is.
That’s what she was going to do.
No one has to know until she dies.
She felt his presence at her back,turning to look into his eyes,she noticed how hurt he is over her actions.
"Zaid I.."
"No,I apologize if i went overboard,let’s go home"He said,wearing his shoes.
"Okay"She muttered, following him behind like some lost sheep,the silence building its way between them again.
