Chapter 87: Conflicted Hearts

Ethan effortlessly pressed her back, his long and slender legs stepping out of the car door and casually closing it. The action was so smooth that she couldn’t even stop it.

Seeing Ethan exit the car, Alex stood up straight and looked at this arrogant and domineering man silently.

He could never have imagined that Lily’s boyfriend would be Ethan.

No wonder Lily was able to get her hands on Blackwood Enterprise’s confidential documents against the Carter Group.

No wonder she didn’t want to say when he asked her how she got the documents.

Unable to control his emotions, he exited the car and knocked on her window. He had a lot of things he wanted to ask, but when he saw Ethan walking out of the car just like that, all his words were muted in his throat.

He didn’t even know what kind of position he should use to ask.

"Alex, what do you mean?" Ethan sneered contemptuously, walking around the car to Alex, staring at him grimly and disdainfully. "It can’t be that you thought the ’Tax Leak Gate’ incident was over, and you’re purposely coming to get me?"

How could Lily like such a man?

He spoke viciously and had ruthless methods.

He didn’t deserve Lily at all.

The way Ethan was nuzzling her neck.

Alex looked at him silently, his hand hanging down at his side, slowly clenched into a fist.

Lily sat in the car and nervously looked at the two men outside, her heart pounding with apprehension.

"The front has been cleared."

The driver rushed into the car and said, and suddenly saw Ethan wrongly ask Nanny outside, "Mr. Blackwood, he..."

"Bang—"

Alex punched Ethan’s face.

Lily’s eyes widened in shock, and her heart nearly stopped.

Ethan didn’t expect Alex to get rough suddenly, and his entire body was hit so hard that he deflected his head. The back of his hand rubbed the corner of his lip with a pronounced blood stain.

"Alex, are you sick?!"

Ethan’s eyes swept through a flash of cruelty. He immediately took off the coat on his body, kicked a foot towards Alex’s body, and swung over with a heavy punch.

Gradually, the traffic on the road began to clear.

Ethan and Alex twisted into a brawl.

Without more words, the two men all used body language.

Soon, both men had colors on their faces.

If this continues, Ethan will know about Alex’s relationship with her. This is not okay.

Lily’s heart was beating wildly up and down as she pushed open the car door and rushed down, pouncing on Ethan the moment Alex was about to punch him.

Alex’s fist froze mid-air, his gentle face pale and bloodless as he stared at her in disbelief.

"What are you doing getting out of the car!" Ethan didn’t expect Lily to jump on him suddenly, and he immediately yelled, pushing her away with all his might.

Lily was pushed so hard that she stumbled a few steps before standing still.

Alex lowered his fists slowly, and Evan swung a hand at his face.

Alex stifled a grunt, was hit, and fell on the door of his sports car. He had a gentle face with a faint bruise, and the corner of his lips bled.

Heart piercing pain dripped blood.

Lily looked at Alex and almost cried out.

Ethan didn’t notice Lily’s expression behind him, and his footsteps were about to go forward again. Lily was so anxious that she was busy clutching his arm. "Forget it."

"Let go!" Ethan shouted angrily.

Alex almost beat up his woman; he wouldn’t just let it go!

"Forget it, Ethan.". Lily glanced at Alex and said almost pleadingly, "Don’t waste our time on this kind of unnecessary person; let’s go."

Alex stood in front of the car and looked at her in shock, his face so dull that it lost its expression.

She said, "Don’t waste our time on this unnecessary person."

It turned out that he was just a pointless person in her heart.

Then what about the days of being together every day from childhood? What does that count for? What does that count for?

Not daring to look at Alex, Lily tugged at Ethan and headed for the car. Ethan was still trying to break away from her when his eyes glanced at her face, which was on the verge of tears. The anger on his face instantly dissipated.

"Alex, count yourself lucky!"

Ethan glared at Alex and put down harsh words, pulling Lily’s hand into the car.

The car slowly opened, and Lily turned her head to look out the car window. Alex still stood there motionless, looking at their car, the silhouette into a wall.

tears, again, could not help but trickle down.

"Miss Anderson." Nanny in the passenger seat handed over a clean handkerchief, her eyes looking at her thoughtfully.

Lily felt a bit uneasy when she noticed Ethan’s expression, so she instinctively grabbed a handkerchief to dab the corners of his mouth.

"Hiss...."

Ethan stifled a grunt in pain; his brows clustered tightly.

"Does it hurt?" Lily asked softly; her tone choked with sobs as she more carefully wiped away the blood from the corner of his mouth.

"Why are you crying?"

Ethan asked coldly, his tone a little stiff, his deep eyes staring straight into her reddened orbs.

He fought for many years; the first time, a woman didn’t want to jump in front of him.

This woman was still Lily.

The proud princess, who once disliked him so much that she had to wipe her hands with a paper towel today, disregarded safety and security and jumped on him.

"It’s nothing." Lily shook her head and wiped her tears with her hand.

She hadn’t thought that she would meet Alex in such a situation.

Alex, who had also carried her on his back for many walks on the beach that day, suddenly appeared in front of her eyes, reading her once.

And she still had to say that kind of words.

It must have hurt him.

"Heartache me?" Ethan reached out to wipe away the tears on her face; thinking about this, fist just punched Alex and put her down.

He didn’t like his woman getting on someone else’s scent.

Not even a tiny bit.

"No." Lily still shook her head.

Ethan’s eyes went deep. "What did you rush down for if you didn’t have a heartache?"

"I ran too fast and bumped into you; I was going to buy a drink from the store down the road."

Ethan suddenly turned his angry face black, took her handkerchief in her hand to wipe carelessly, and then hugged her soft body, strangled her tightly, and grimly said, "Repeat it."

She still dared to say it?

Violent man.

*************************

The window on the passenger seat of the black sports car parked in place was slowly lowered, and a middle-aged man in a suit with a straight face looked coldly at Alex standing outside. He spoke indifferently and solemnly, "Still not getting in the car? You want to attract the media?"

The car Lily was sitting in had long since gone nowhere.

"Got it, Father," Alex answered in a light tone, pulling the door to the car and sitting in.

The scene from just now was still deep in his mind.

Lily said before him, "Don’t waste our time with this kind of unnecessary person; let’s go."

Sharp pierced into the bottom of his heart, and pain suffocated him.

Wiping a handful of blood at the corner of his mouth, Alex looked out of the car window; a pair of gentle, watery eyes gradually reddened.

Unnecessary people.

She jumped on Ethan without regard for her life because she was afraid that he would injure her boyfriend, right?

Does she love Ethan very much?

He thought that she didn’t like that kind of arrogant man.

It turned out that what he thought was just what he thought.

Her preferences have all changed, and even the men she likes are different.

"You and Lily met early?" Alex’s father, Bill Carter, in the passenger seat, looked at his son in the rearview mirror with cold eyes and a voice as cold as ice.

"Not long ago," Alex replied.

"That girl is quite capable of getting involved with such a person as Ethan." Bill let out a cold laugh.

Alex frowned shallowly at his words. His tone was gentle but carried a hint of paranoia that could not be denied. "Father, don’t talk about Lily like that. She is, in the end, Uncle Anderson’s daughter."

Anderson and Carter were excellent friends back then, and even their houses were connected.

Both families’ businesses were thriving.

Anderson’s company declared bankruptcy, and everything changed after Uncle Anderson was imprisoned.

Anderson and Carter are two families from the two extremes to go. He and Lily also lost contact for many years.

"Carter Group and Blackwood Enterprise have never had any problems, but this time, it was attacked strangely; who knows what role.

Lily played in it?" Bill Carter said indifferently.

"Lily wouldn’t hurt us. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have passed that confidential document to me."

Alex said stubbornly.

"Alex, you’ll have to see a lot more of the shilly-shallying in the mall in the future. Don’t trust people so easily, especially a friend you haven’t seen in nine years."

"Father...."

"Mayor Johnson and I have finalized the wedding date for you and Alice three months from now."

"So soon?" Alex raised his eyes in shock. "It hasn’t been long since Alice and I got engaged."

"Mayor Johnson will be promoted to the center in two months; the sooner you and Alice get married, the better." Bill Carter turned his head to look at his son with a severe face. "Sooner or later, you must take over Carter Group; a stable marriage will benefit your corporate image."

Mayor Johnson was promoted to the center.

A stable marriage helps with the corporate image.

His father was an uncompromising businessman who could use anything to calculate.

"Father, my choice of Alice has nothing to do with these interests," Alex said with a faint expression.

"Alex, I know you are a man responsible for your feelings, so... that girl from the Anderson family, you should not think about it anymore in the future." Bill Carter said in a firm tone. "Don’t let Mayor Johnson have any negative impression of you."

"Don’t fail to listen to my words; you’ll be a businessman sooner or later." 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

"Got it, Father."

Alex’s body subconsciously leaned back, staring down at the engagement ring on his hand.

Marrying... and Alice?

*************************

The private plane landed at an airport in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark.

Lily had just stepped off the plane with Ethan’s arm around her when a dozen Lamborghini of different colors sped by. A line of blonde, blue-eyed foreign men hurriedly exited the plane and ran before them, respectfully saying, "Mr. Blackwood."

Those people rushed onto the airplane to take down the luggage for them. Nanny followed them and shouted, "Careful," "Careful.""

"They will be your bodyguards in Copenhagen from now on." Ethan put his arm around her and walked towards a brightly colored sports car, opening the passenger seat door for her to sit in.

Bodyguards again...

Spying on her is more like it.

Lily turned her head to look at the scenery along the way.

How is Alex doing now? Has the injury on his face been treated?

"Do you want to wander somewhere first?" Ethan drove his car briskly, and with a swoosh, he sped out a reasonable distance on the road.

"No need. I’m a bit tired."

"Then go back to your place of residence first." Ethan didn’t insist, pressing one hand on the steering wheel and holding her hand with the other, his fingertips tickling her palm abrasively.

Lily twisted her head to look at the injuries on his face. Alex had just beaten him as well.

"Let’s go to the hospital first to treat the wound. The corner of your mouth is broken," Lily said in a light tone.

"This injury is nothing." Ethan snorted at his words and asked again as if he remembered something. "Is this the first time you’ve been to Denmark?"

"Uh-huh."

In addition to playing abroad twice with her parents when she was a child, she hasn’t had the chance to go out to play since then.

The romantic capital of France is Paris.

It was the metropolis she’d always wished to visit and had never had the chance to.

The Lamborghini turned into a long highway lined with trees. Copenhagen’s climate and environment were excellent.

As they drove further in, a massive medieval castle came into view. The doorman opened the heavy gates and bowed to them.

Surrounded by flowers and jungle, this enormous castle is a magnificent sight, giving off the air of a grand kingdom.
