Chapter 79: The Price of Freedom

"Eat your food; what nonsense in front of the child?!" Uncle, furious, blew his beard and glared, then turned to Lily with concern. "How is it? Is your foot alright? Uncle will accompany you to the hospital to take a look."

"It’s fine. It’s just a small sprain, and it’s almost healed." Lily ate her meal, mulling over how to broach the subject on her mind. A moment later, she spoke up. "Uncle, how’s the magazine’s income these days?"

Auntie’s alarm bells immediately went off. "How’s the income? It’s none of your business! You’re a drag who still wants to consume our family’s money?!"

Lily was speechless. Her aunt always took the conversation in the direction of a fight.

"Don’t listen to your aunt. Are you short of money recently?" Uncle asked.

Lily put down her spoon and shook her head, choosing her words carefully. "I think my cousins are studying in Canada, and after graduation, there’s a good chance they’ll stay there for development. Sooner or later, she will have to break free from Ethan’s chains. She worries about her uncle’s family being unsafe; after all, Canada is outside Ethan’s sphere of influence. Uncle and the rest, if they immigrate, at least the people will be safe."

"Now the magazine is thriving, and I’ve set the target sales to exceed ’Hottopic.’ This time to emigrate is not to cut off their way of wealth well." Uncle hadn’t considered the idea of emigrating.

"The money is not the issue; the family being together is the most important." Lily tried to persuade him.

"Let’s talk about immigration later. I’ll reconsider if Jonathan and Jessica decide to develop in Canada." Uncle’s words cut off Lily’s train of thought.

The magazine was doing better than ever, so her uncle naturally wanted to expand it. But Ethan gave her all the good times. If she were to run away from Ethan one day, her uncle’s family and the magazine would be the first to be targeted. Ethan’s vindictive character was too heavy.

Forget about it; immigration is not a way out. She will think of another way.

Uncle was extraordinarily happy in the small courtyard, seeing her back. He didn’t even return to the magazine in the afternoon, pulling her to talk about the magazine’s future plans.

She agreed to be Ethan’s mistress in the beginning for the sake of the magazine, for the sake of exclusivity, and for the sake of money. But now, she was being held captive by Ethan, and this loss of freedom was far beyond what she had expected at first. She must find a way to escape from Ethan unharmed. Otherwise, she was still determining when this road would end.

It wasn’t until the evening, after dinner, that Lily pushed back her uncle’s enthusiastic retention, saying that there was still a press release she had to type in the rented house. Uncle then let her go.

Lily was riding in a cab, which was headed toward Shallow Water Bay. At night, the city was brightly lit, bustling, and lively.

As the cab pulled closer to Shallow Water Bay, her heart grew more and more apprehensive. She didn’t understand what she was about to face or how they could escape this predicament.

All the lights in the Knight family villa were on. Several police cars flashed in front of the villa, and the doorman was busy pulling open the door when he saw Lily return.

Lily limped in, and before she entered the house, Nanny had already jogged out to meet her, excitedly bouncing in front of her, looking her up and down. "Ms. Anderson, you’re finally back? Were you kidnapped?"

Did the Nanny believe that she was kidnapped? Would it have been better if she had acknowledged being kidnapped and escaped with difficulty?

Anyway, the truth can’t be told.

"Where’s Ethan?" Lily asked.

Nanny pointed inside, with a somewhat complicated expression, and whispered in her ear. "Mr. Blackwood is inside. He hasn’t closed his eyes all night and hasn’t even had a bite to eat."

Ethan didn’t sleep all night for her? Didn’t eat?

Lily looked at Nanny in surprise and stepped through the door of the Blackwood family villa with apprehension. There had never been so many people in the Blackwood family. Two rows of uniformed bodyguards stood solemnly, and two rows of men wearing black clothes and sunglasses stood with their hands folded.

Lily glanced at Ethan sitting on the sofa in the lobby. A black coat on his body made him look gloomy. His short, dark hair was messy, and his handsome, perfect face was tired and worn.

Seeing her walk in, Ethan violently raised his eyes to look at her, his bloodshot eyes so cold that they were filled with gloom.

His gaze was as harsh as a knife. Not knowing whether she was weak, Lily couldn’t help but take a step back at the look in his eyes.

"Where did you go?" Ethan didn’t get up, still sitting on the sofa. His magnetic voice grew more sinister, and his body was shrouded in a black aura.

Lily sucked in a mouthful of cold air, clenched her fists, and walked boldly toward him. Just as she was about to open her mouth to say that she had been kidnapped, Lily violently realized that a stack of papers was scattered on the coffee table in front of Ethan. The top one was a photo of Alex’s caravan, with the license plate number reflected on it.

With his skill, Ethan must have found out that the caravan belonged to Alex Carter. At this time, if she said that she was kidnapped, Ethan must think that the Carter family took the opportunity to retaliate. Then Alex would be finished.

"I..." Lily stood in front of Ethan and hesitantly opened her mouth. Her head was in a mess for a while, and she did not know what excuse would be the most perfect in such a situation.

"Say, where did you go?" Ethan raised his head and gazed at her coldly, unable to tell whether he was happy or angry on his gloomy face.

He was going out on a limb as long as Alex and his company were fine.

"Carter Group’s car went to pick up someone. I got into the car by mistake, and after the car drove out, I explained for a long time before they realized they picked up the wrong person." Lily said with a slight glint in her eyes, trying to look like she was telling the truth.

"And then?" Ethan continued to ask coldly.

"Then they let me off the bus, and I wandered around," Lily said briefly.

"Strolling? You strolled around for two days?!" Ethan stormed to his feet, his bloodshot eyes glaring fiercely at her as he lifted his foot and kicked the coffee table out in front of him.

"Ah..."

The coffee table struck Lily on her leg, causing her to lose voice in agony and fall to the ground.

"Lily! You’re getting bolder and bolder!" Ethan’s eyes showed not even a hint of pity. As he raised his hand, a bodyguard immediately handed him a stack of information.

Ethan immediately slammed the information heavily at her head, scattering papers and photos everywhere.

In dismay, Lily lowered her head and looked at the photos on the ground. All of them were taken after she took a cab back to the city this morning. The photos show her sitting in the cab, contemplating, and the photos show her limping into the courtyard.

A picture of her eating with her aunt and uncle. Pictures of her sitting in the courtyard with her uncle, discussing the magazine’s planning. The last photo of her going to the pharmacy to buy birth control pills. From the moment she took a cab into the city today, she was being watched by Ethan’s people, scene after scene.

Shouldn’t she be thankful she wasn’t stared at yesterday when she was with Alex?

"Lily! Explain to me!" Ethan roared coldly, walking over to her and squatting down. The haze in his eyes consumed her, itching to burn clean.

"I..." Lily fell to the ground, a little scared, and tried to shrink backward. He violently pinched her chin, and it hurt as if it was about to be crushed.

"Say!" Ethan yelled. His face was so gloomy that his slender hand pinched her chin fiercely without causing her any pain.

"I just feel that I lost my freedom for too long and want to go for a walk."

Her face was immediately punched. Lily was instantly knocked to the ground, her ears buzzing from the beating, and more than a smear of bloody wetness at the corner of her mouth. Pain that spread out.

Ethan clutched her up from the ground, his hands gripping her collar hard so that she was forced to tilt her head back to gaze at her.

"Lily! You’re looking for death!" Ethan gritted his teeth and glared at her.

He thought she had been kidnapped and used all of his connections. After a day of searching for nothing, he was about to search outside of the city when she came back instead.

She took a cab back to her house and stayed for a day. Before she came back here, she was able to go to the pharmacy and buy birth control pills.

What did she take him for?

He’s looking all over the world like a fool, and she just went for a random stroll?

She is challenging his bottom line!

His woman is out of his control; she wants to be free. Very well, he would completely deprive her of it later!

His collar lifted Lily, which was so tight that she almost choked. Her fingers wiped across the corner of her mouth, and a smear of blood stained her fingertips, eye-catching and shocking.

He beat her once more.

The anger in her heart was aroused.

Lily coldly glared at him and said contemptuously, "Ethan! What else are you capable of besides hitting women?" 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

"What ability?!" Ethan clutched her collar to bring her closer to him, his hot breath spewing on her face, one word at a time squeezing out from between his teeth. "Lily Anderson, I can destroy you!"
