Chapter 73: The Unexpected Kidnapping

"Dinner? Eating was secondary; jumping into his bed was the point. He was only interested in innocent women now, such as Lily, who had only belonged to him from start to finish.

"Let her die!" Ethan directly interrupted the secretary’s voice and hung up the phone. He reached out to pick up the green button rocker, his thumb rubbing over it, and the smirk in his eyes was evident.

The phone vibrated again, a call from Nanny. Is Lily refusing to leave until she sees him? Ethan answered the call with his headphones on, still holding the green button rocker.

"Mr. Blackwood, it’s not good! Miss Anderson has been kidnapped!" the Nanny’s panicked voice came from the headset.

"Pi-" The sports car braked sharply on the traffic-laden street. With a tremble in his fingertips, he pressed the green button, and all the balloons all over the city took off in a flash...

The sports car hit the roadside guard heavily. Ethan stared at the road before him, and his smile disappeared.

"Why don’t you go look for it?!" Ethan yelled, the veins between his forehead standing out. His heart was whacked hard. Hanging up the phone, he directly dialed Lily’s phone, calling the avatar a photo of her in middle school, belonging to the innocence of a teenage girl, under the apricot eyes with a vaguely haughty and aristocratic air.

The ringtone rang for a long time. No one answered the phone.

"Lily Anderson," Ethan gritted his teeth, "Pick up the phone, Lily!" After three consecutive calls, the phone was turned off.

"Bastard!" Ethan punched his fist on the steering wheel, which ungrateful thing dared to kidnap his woman! Kicking open the car door, Ethan walked out of the car while dialing the number of the secretary’s office.

"Immediately mobilize all of NY City’s network of people for me! Find Lily for me!" Bastard! Ethan tugged hard on his tie to loosen his tight breath, his face covered in gloom. He was kidnapping his woman! F~ck him!

Alex’s caravan was silent, and he squatted in front of Lily’s wheelchair, gazing at her quietly.

"Lily..." Accompanied by this murmur from Alex, the ringtone of the cell phone in Lily’s pocket began to ring.

There was no one else she would call on this cell phone, only Ethan. The ringing of the cell phone cleared Lily’s mind a bit. She didn’t answer the phone and looked at Alex with a cold expression, "Let me off."

"No." Alex flatly refused, his tone stubborn.

"Alex..."

"Is it your boyfriend?" Alex listened to the ringing bell that wouldn’t stop ringing and spread his palms to her, "I’ll talk to him and lend you a day."

Lily froze. Does he still not know that her man is Ethan? Is Alex talking to Ethan? With Ethan’s flawed personality, how could he still let Alex off the hook?

Lily bit her lip and impatiently said, "Alex, let me off. There’s nothing to talk about between us. I’ve already said what I need to say."

Alex’s eyes swept through a flash of pain from being stabbed, and in the next second, he ’showed’ a gentle smile at her; his tone was stubborn and severe, "From beginning to end, it’s you who made it clear, I haven’t."

The heartbeat intensified for a moment. Alex said, "From start to finish, you made it clear that I didn’t understand." What did he want to convey to her when things had already reached this point? Getting closer to her wouldn’t serve him well. Did he realize?

"Lily, give me your cell phone." Her cell phone rang repeatedly, and Alex reached out to get it from her pocket.

Didn’t she want Alex to get through to Ethan? Didn’t she want Alex to see the wallpaper on her cell phone? Lily panicked as she put her hand in her pocket and pressed her cell phone off. The ringtone crunched to a halt. The car was quiet.

Alex watched her actions slightly ’show’ a smile of harmony. Was she hanging up her boyfriend’s phone for him? He still weighed her heart, didn’t he?

Alex raised his head and ruffled her long, smooth hair. "A few days have passed; you’ve pined a lot." Wasn’t it the same, with lingering fatigue on his face? Has he been having a wrong time lately? Uncle Bill’s body should be much better.

"Huh?" the surprised voice of the driver in front suddenly came. Alex and Lily sniffed and looked over at the same time, and the driver let out a laugh: "Mr. Carter, look at the sky. There are so many balloons. Is today another festival?"

Balloons?

Thinking of the Korean idol drama she watched last night, Lily pressed down on the window and looked up to the outside. From near and far, many heart-shaped balloons floated over the entire city, very spectacular.

"Lily, be careful." Alex pulled back her body that was almost poking out of the car window and closed the window again, "A few balloons are just a few balloons; if you like it, I’ll buy it for you."

Her heart throbbed for his every word. She said such desperate and hurtful words. Why was he still so stubborn? Don’t be nice to her. With her nose a little sour, Lily backed her wheelchair backward, a little farther away from him, and said pleadingly, "Alex, you let me off the bus. We’ll find another chance to meet next time, okay?"

"No good." Alex watched her backward movement, the smile on his face barely hanging on, "Lily, you can’t leave me with your back every time, okay?" His tone was more begging than hers.

Lily clenched her fists, her nails sinking deep into her palms, using the pain to clear her head some more. Please don’t fall into his gentleness.

Lily looked back somewhat nervously, and Alex frowned, "Is it possible that your family’s bodyguards think you’ve been kidnapped? Do you want to get out of the car and explain to them?"

"..." That wasn’t her family’s bodyguard; it was Ethan’s. She had long been a down-and-out millennial. The two times she saw Alex, she was dressed well and wore the "Tears of Airlie" ring on her hand, which gave him the wrong impression. It would be over if the bodyguards found out that she got into Alex’s car. She didn’t dare imagine how far Ethan would go.

Hearing Alex’s words, the driver began to drive the car slowly, "Mr. Carlton, do we need to stop and wait for them?"

"Alex, will you let me out of the car?"

"Speed up." Alex looked at Lily’s face and said, "He wouldn’t give her another chance; he wouldn’t let her just leave a back to him."

The caravan accelerated violently and flew out. Alex pressed down on her wheelchair to keep her from shaking from the car’s sudden acceleration. Lily closed her eyes in silence, knowing no one could stop Alex when he was stubborn. Hopefully, things wouldn’t turn out too shitty.

"Where are you taking me?" Lily asked.

"To a place that... always wanted to take you to." Alex’s voice was gentle. Lily didn’t speak again; her hands kept nervously clenching her fists, and her heart was apprehensive.

"Have you eaten breakfast?" Alex turned around and walked to her, dotingly tousling her hair again. I’ll cook you congee to drink, okay?"

His fingertips were clean and warm enough to make her heart flutter. Desperately trying to control her emotions, Lily shook her head and said in a light tone, "No, I’m not hungry."

Seeing this reaction from her, Alex’s hand ruffled her lengthy hair, giving her a start, and asked with some embarrassment, "Do you hate me if I take you away... like this?"

Lily clenched her hand hard, but her eyes were so sore that they almost fell into tears. Every time she saw Alex, she was having a hard time controlling her emotions. His influence on her was just too significant. It was too hard for her to restrain herself. She liked him so much that she could go for anything, could give up anything, and how could she hate him? She is just afraid that he hates her. She is not as good as he thinks. She is no longer the Lily of the past; she is from head to tail, and everything has changed.

"Lily,"... Alex suddenly sighed and leaned down to wrap his arms around her shoulders. It was an empty embrace without any possessive connotations.

Lily’s entire body tensed up, stiffening to the point of immobility. Between one breath and the next, it was all the faint aroma of mint from his body.

"Come, I’ll carry you to the sofa to sit." Alex let go of her for a long time and tried to pick her up from the wheelchair.

Lily blocked his hand. "No need. I twisted my foot earlier. It’s nothing serious. I can walk by myself." His embrace was a not-so-small temptation for her. She couldn’t let her feelings develop like this; she could only stifle them.

Alex’s brows knit gently, looking at her with a desire to speak; he didn’t insist anymore and assisted her to stand up from the wheelchair. Lily hopped a small step on one foot, then sat on the sofa, the scenery outside the window brushed by, already driving out of the city.

Where exactly was Alex taking her? Lily raised her eyes, only to see Alex walk to a glass locker, take out a box of fine chocolates, and hand it to her. "You said you’ve changed everything. Where’s the chocolate? Do you still like it?"
