30 Days of Passion and Revenge-Chapter 62: Silent Vigil
Lily hadn’t anticipated that her stomach would act up so swiftly. She thought she could endure until they returned to the Blackwood villa, but instead, she ended up in the hospital. Her hidden mobile phone was left behind in the bedroom, and with her hospital stay extending for several days, she would undoubtedly be under the watchful eyes of Ethan and the bodyguards, likely losing her freedom to communicate once again.
She still hadn’t figured out why Ethan insisted on keeping her imprisoned. She had already obediently become his mistress, yet he kept her close, not allowing her any contact with the outside world.
Lily slightly lifted the quilt, poking her head out for some fresh air, and saw a bodyguard carrying bags of items walking in through the door.
"Mr. Blackwood, I’ve bought some late-night snacks from the next-door hotel. You should eat something first; we are all hungry too."
The bodyguard entered, carrying the food with a sycophantic demeanor.
Standing beside the bed, Ethan’s eyes darkened; he stepped forward and struck the bodyguard, eventually kicking him out. "Didn’t you hear the doctor say she can’t eat anything today?!"
"I... I heard." The bodyguard, beaten to a pulp, didn’t dare to fight back.
"Then why are you still buying food?!" Ethan’s anger was palpable. This woman couldn’t control her appetite; she was very greedy, and these incompetent people dared to bring food into the hospital room.
"For you!" The bodyguard was scared and timid.
"All of you, go hungry!" Ethan pointed towards the bed where Lily was lying. "When she eats, that’s when you eat."
"Yes, sir!"
Lily lay in bed, feeling somewhat sympathetic towards the bodyguard who had been beaten and thrown to the ground. Ethan’s anger was directed at her, but she wasn’t the one who got beaten; instead, the bodyguard suffered. The innocent bodyguard... now he couldn’t even eat.
The sunlight was warm, making it another pleasant day. The bodyguard respectfully placed a stack of EYL magazines on her bedside, and the latest issue featured a photo of Alice hugging a foreigner in a hotel on the cover.
Her uncle’s work efficiency was impressive; the news had come out so quickly. The text inside the magazine was all an attack on Alice, describing her relationship with the foreigner as ambiguous as possible, suggesting they had an unusual relationship, even implying they went to the hotel for a tryst. She wrote the thousands of words in the article.
Ethan remarked that she had a talent for providing vivid and compelling descriptions of the picture. Maybe there’s some truth to that; her ability is truly remarkable.
Paparazzi is a hurtful profession. The "Hottopic" magazine hadn’t hit the news yet; according to the progress, it should appear in the next issue with the title "Carter Group’s Conspiracy Theory," where her text directly pointed out that the "Tax Evasion Gate" was someone with a conspiracy and organization deliberately targeting the Carter Group...
"Miss Anderson."
Nanny’s incredibly kind voice came from outside the door.
Lily looked up as the bodyguard opened the ward door, and Nanny came in with two pots, smiling broadly. "I specifically asked Mr. Blackwood, and he said you can eat some fluids today, so I had the kitchen prepare this right away." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"Thank you, Nanny."
Lily tossed the magazine onto the quilt beside her; she was genuinely quite hungry. The fragrant and pleasant porridge emitted aromas, and Lily knew it was delicious just by its scent.
"Here you go, Miss Anderson." Nanny quickly handed her a spoon.
Only when the porridge was in her mouth did Lily realize it was tasteless. Although she could tell there were many stomach-nourishing ingredients in it, the flavor was too bland. Truth be told, although Ethan’s all-spicy feast hospitalized her, it was undeniably delicious—at least, it was more scrumptious than this stomach-nourishing porridge.
Unfortunately, she can only eat porridge now.
"By the way, where is Mr. Blackwood?"
She was exhausted and sleepy yesterday and fell asleep in a daze. When she woke up, she didn’t see Ethan. She initially thought that since she was now seriously in the hospital, Mr. Blackwood would come to see her. More time would be needed to target the Carter Group. After all, the Blackwood Enterprise, such a large group in Asia, still needed his management. She overestimated her charm.
"Mr. Blackwood went out early in the morning to handle official business."
"Official business?" So early, he usually doesn’t go to the company this.
"Yes, I received a call from the secretary. It seems there is an urgent meeting about some company’s stock price. That company is very familiar to me. I seem to have seen it somewhere." Nanny, being older, had a poor memory and was desperately trying to recall.
A familiar company?
Lily quickly took out the "EYL" magazine, pointed to the cover, and asked anxiously, "Is it Carter Group? The man from Carter who is married to Mayor Johnson’s family?"
"Oh, yes, yes, it’s Carter Group..." Nanny clapped her hands happily, "I finally remembered."
Lily was somewhat shocked. What kind of meeting did the Blackwood Enterprise have with the Carter Group?
Nanny took the magazine from her hand, looked at the cover, and frowned. "Oh, the young ones these days, they were showing off their love in front of the media not long ago; how, in the blink of an eye, this woman hooked up with someone else? The boy must be crying, finding such a wife..."
The two children Nanny mentioned were naturally Alice and Alex. Nanny’s reaction was also as she expected; seeing such a photo, everyone would subconsciously think about how poor Alex must be feeling now...
But what kind of urgent meeting does the Carter Group have with the Blackwood Enterprise?
Just thinking about it, there was a noise outside the door, and then a bodyguard pushed a shiny silver wheelchair in. Ethan followed closely, wearing a black overcoat, patted the wheelchair, and glanced at Lily on the bed. "Let’s go out for a walk."
Did he mean to let her sit in that wheelchair?
Seeing this, Nanny hurriedly stood up and said, "Yes, yes, Miss Anderson and Mr. Blackwood go for a walk. The sun is good today, and breathing some fresh air is good."
"But my injury doesn’t seem to be on my feet."
"Just sit; where are there so many words."
Mr. Blackwood strode forward, picked up Lily, who was still wearing a blue and white patient’s gown, put her on the wheelchair, took off his overcoat, and put it on her aggressively.
"Come on, come on, put on your shoes." Nanny also hurriedly picked up the slippers and put them on for her.
Lily was a bit embarrassed. She couldn’t take care of herself; why make it so severe? She couldn’t protest, and it would have no effect if she did.
Ethan pushed her out of the ward, followed by four strong bodyguards in black.
"Aren’t you having a meeting with the Carter Group? Is it over so quickly?" Lily seized the opportunity to ask.
"The board members of the Carter Group just want me to let them go. What’s the point of meeting with a bunch of old men." Ethan said disdainfully, pushing her out of the hospital building.
This private hospital was specially designed for the rich, and its facilities were comparable to hotels. On the hospital’s lawn, several patients played badminton and exercised, each accompanied by an assistant or nurse carrying things and clothes. They all looked wealthy and powerful.
Lily sat in the wheelchair and asked cautiously, "Aren’t you going to let go of the Carter Group?"
