30 Days of Passion and Revenge-Chapter 57: Unseen Heartache
With his hand around her waist, Lily turned her head to gaze silently at the city’s night view outside. The streets bustled with life; couples walked hand in hand, holding roses and laughing together.
That’s what a real couple looks like.
It is unlike them, where two people are physically close, but their thoughts are worlds apart.
A mistress and a benefactor can never be considered a couple. They represent a financial entanglement with no heart or emotions, only a cold transactional relationship.
No couple’s relationship would be so distorted.
"Why didn’t you wear the necklace?" Ethan, holding her in the back seat of the car, reached out and touched her bare neck, his voice tinged with displeasure.
The necklace he had specially bought for her, she had never worn in front of him.
"I wore the ring," Lily raised her hand, allowing the teardrop-shaped ring on her ring finger to catch Ethan’s eye.
The "Tears of Airlie" necklace was an engagement gift from Alex Carter to Alice.
Wearing that necklace was like Alex’s love for another woman, a promise to another woman.
It was too heavy...
So heavy that she... couldn’t bear it.
The Ferrari stopped at the most bustling intersection. The driver exited and opened the car door, respectfully bowing, "Mr. Blackwood, we’re here."
The city at night was more lively than during the day, with crowds thronging the streets and shops. The noise was overwhelming.
When Lily exited the car, Ethan held her hand and led her to a large-scale mobile phone mall.
Ethan’s striking appearance caused a commotion as soon as he stepped onto the street.
This situation has happened before.
Before entering the mobile phone mall, Lily had already felt strange eyes turning towards her.
"Hey, see that handsome man..."
"Not just handsome, but rich! Look at what they’re wearing, all brands under B.E. I couldn’t afford a pair of socks if I sold everything I own!"
"B.E. brand?! I hate showing off the wealth the most."
"Showing off wealth and handsomeness... What kind of luck does this woman have?!"
"At least she’s more beautiful than you... Look at her temperament and style when walking; can you compare?"
"Pfft, if I were dressed in famous brands, I would be beautiful too!"
...
The chaotic whispers from the street continued, and Lily couldn’t help but smile bitterly. Did she still have the temperament?
She thought that temperament had long been dead on her...
Walking into the resplendently decorated mobile phone mall, a middle-aged woman with a manager’s badge immediately greeted them with a smile. "Hello, Mr. Blackwood, the VIP room is ready. My surname is Betty, and I will serve you today."
This professional, flattering attitude...
Lily almost thought she hadn’t come to buy a phone but to stay in a presidential suite.
"Hmm," Ethan responded coldly.
"The elevator is this way, please." Manager Betty led them to a fully transparent elevator.
The elevator slowly rose, and the city night view below got further and blurred, like stars.
The transparent elevator opposite was also going up and down, with two rows of elevators not far apart from each other.
"The top floor here is the Hilton Hotel, and you can see the whole city from the top floor," the female manager enthusiastically introduced. "If Mr. Blackwood is interested, you can take your girlfriend to the top floor to have a look."
Ethan stood lazily, with one hand around Lily’s waist. Upon hearing this, he looked down at her with a question.
"Let’s see after buying."
Lily smiled lightly.
If it’s still early after she buys the phone, she will definitely go to the top floor to have a look. It’s better than staying at the Blackwood villa anyway.
Manager Betty was very perceptive; seeing Ethan’s eyes fixed on Lily, she immediately began flattering Lily. "Miss is lovely. Nowadays, girls all go out with a thick layer of powder. There are very few who can be so stunning without makeup."
...
Such sweet words were loud.
Almost to the point of elevating her to the heavens.
Lily stood quietly without responding.
Ethan always disliked dealing with such people but hearing this, he curled his lips, hugged her tighter with one hand, and said complacently, "Naturally, the woman I chose is much better than those common beauties."
For some reason, hearing others praise her made him more comfortable than flattery towards him.
"Yes, Mr. Blackwood has a good eye to finding such a beautiful girlfriend." Manager Betty agreed and then continued to praise Lily.
Seeing that flattery was effective, Manager Betty tried to praise Lily from head to toe.
Looking at their act, Lily didn’t know what else to do besides maintain a fake smile.
She turned to look at the night view outside the transparent elevator, the lights like stars in the dark night, as quiet as ever.
In a glance, two figures in the opposite elevator made Lily completely stunned.
Their elevator was slowly rising, and the one opposite was slowly descending...
The speed was so slow that it seemed static in a moment.
Silent...
Alice, in a sexy strapless dress, and Alex, in a white suit, stood opposite the fully transparent elevator. The picture was beautiful.
Lily wanted to turn around, but her body was stiff and motionless.
Her gaze was fixed on the two people in the opposite elevator as if she was bewitched and unable to shift her eyes.
Alex stood casually against one side of the elevator.
Alice leaned against his chest, her two arms like white jade hanging around his neck.
Lily had good eyesight; at this distance, she could see Alice talking to Alex occasionally, and Alex listened quietly.
Then Alex smiled.
Alice laughed happily and beautifully, suddenly stood on tiptoe, raised her head, and kissed Alex’s lips.
The picture was frozen.
Her mind went blank in an instant.
Lily looked at the opposite elevator, gradually descending, her face pale.
Initially in his pocket, Alex’s hand stretched out and gently held Alice, responding to her kiss.
In the transparent elevator. The two kissed passionately. A perfect match made in heaven.
Her heart was like being cut by a sharp knife, hurting her to want to sew it up with something.
Tears fell from her eyes without warning, flowing down her pale cheeks.
"Miss, what’s wrong? Are you not feeling well?" Standing opposite them, Manager Betty was surprised to see Lily crying and called out.
Standing on her side, Ethan immediately lowered his head upon hearing this, frowned tightly, and said in a low voice, "What’s wrong? Lily?!"
"It’s nothing, it’s nothing." Lily choked and shook her head, wiping her tears with her hand.
Why was she crying?
She didn’t even have the qualification to feel heartache...
