Chapter 64: Divination

[Ding! Congratulations on getting 1 Chaos attribute. Congratulations on stepping into the entry stage ??? profession.]

[Ding! Gained 1 Chaos attribute.]

[Ding! Gained 1 Chaos attribute.]

[Ding! Gained 1 Chaos attribute.]

’Chaos attribute? What the hell is that and why’s the description filled with question marks? I can’t even see the profession.’ Sunless wondered in confusion.

Glancing at the description, he frowned slightly.

He didn’t feel any changes to his body even after absorbing all ten bubbles, and there was no system message signalling that he had stepped into the next stage of the profession.

That could only mean one thing.

The limit for the first rank wasn’t 5.

Sunless was about to pull up his system panel when the second group entered the portal. It was the twins.

After the twins were the nun and the taut young man.

Sunless picked up 16 more Chaos attributes but there were still no changes to his body.

Jane followed after and entered the portal with Mical.

As they vanished into the purple light, 7 attribute bubbles dropped to the ground.

Sunless smoothly used his mental energy to pick them up.

Now he’d gotten 33 Chaos attributes.

With a little bit of regret in his heart, he entered with Sonia.

He felt a blinding light cloud his vision, and the sensation of being submerged underwater filled him with an immense sense of suffocation.

It felt as though he was about to drown when he appeared in a unique world.

Multicolored light spilled across the skies and landed on him.

The moment he regained his senses, he noticed the system’s notification alerting him that he’d received 30 Chaos attributes.

Sunless was briefly shocked.

Just by passing through the portal alone he’d received that much?

Now at 63, he still didn’t feel any changes to his body.

’Is it a scam?’ he wondered internally and decided to push the thought to the back of his mind.

Awooooooo

Suddenly, a sharp howl sliced through the silence of the darkish purple skies.

The piercing sound echoed in everyone’s ears and sent a shiver down their spines.

Snapping their heads in that direction, they noticed wolves numbering close to twenty gathering and surrounding them.

Beside him, Sonia tensed up.

Ahead were Jane and Jennifer, being surrounded by five wolves.

Then six ganged up on the nun and the brute, and three were upon the twins.

Surrounding Sunless were five wolves as well, while only two prowled relentlessly in front of Jane and Mical.

The wolves bared their teeth and fangs, saliva dripping from their mouths as they stared at the packs of meat that had delivered themselves straight to the table.

"Take this, Sunless."

Jennifer said and tossed him a gleaming longsword.

Catching it, Sunless felt it settle into his palm almost as if it belonged there.

He glanced at Jennifer in gratitude. When had she even gotten this for him?

Jennifer gave him a slight grin before taking out a longsword of her own, slightly purplish and slender.

"Leave it to me! I’ll handle these little creatures!" Ella said with a smirk and thrust a punch forward.

Her fists were small, but as they slammed through the air, a resounding shockwave burst outward. The air rippled violently, sending a compressed blast straight toward one of the wolves in front.

With an explosive bang, the wolf shattered into bloody fragments on impact!

Everyone’s eyes narrowed at the sight.

Punching four times in rapid succession, the air exploded outward once more. In the blink of an eye, the remaining wolves surrounding them had been killed.

"That’s what I call the destructive windwave punch!" Ella exclaimed excitedly.

The sight left Sunless slightly stunned. He hadn’t expected her strength to be this terrifying.

Still... noticing the bubbles around her... he had to be grateful.

Hiding his evil grin, he smoothly picked up the attributes using his mental energy.

[Ding! Congratulations on gaining 1 attribute of the windwave punch. You have gained entry stage understanding of the technique.]

Sunless picked up 6 attributes in total, and just like before, when he crossed 5 it formed a threshold. However, he realized he could only slightly ripple the wind with his punches.

It seemed he’d have to level up the technique more before being able to use something worthwhile.

Still... as long as Ella was here, it was only a matter of time before he reached her level of mastery, or even surpassed it!

Aside from the martial technique, he’d also received the wind affinity from her. However, it was similarly low-grade and needed further improvement.

Sunless shifted his attention to the brute who raised his broadsword and swung it like a hammer, hurling it toward the group of wolves.

Awooo—

Before the first wolf could let out a scream, it was pierced through the head by the sword, bursting like a watermelon.

The blade continued forward without slowing and blew apart the head of the second wolf as well.

By now the remaining four had realized the severity of the situation.

Just as they lunged at the brute, a white light, like holy radiance, surrounded them in rippling waves.

The glow spread from the soles of their feet all the way up to their heads.

Then their legs began disintegrating layer by layer.

The brute swung his broadsword once more, bursting two of them apart midway through the process.

’What sort of attack is that?’ Sunless’ eyes widened in surprise.

Reaching out with his mental energy, he swiftly picked up all the attributes dropped by the two.

He obtained deepened sword mastery from the brute.

Although it was a broadsword, in the end it was still a sword. As such, he received the corresponding knowledge.

Meanwhile, he obtained the light affinity from the nun, Angeline, along with the divine purity technique.

Studying the technique closely, he realized he could faintly treat wounds, heal others, and purify his surroundings, albeit to a very small extent.

But as his mastery increased, the range of things he could do with it would grow exponentially.

Sunless glanced around and noticed the twins finishing up their opponents.

He hadn’t even noticed when they attacked, but without hesitation, he picked up the attributes they dropped.

One was a speed-type attribute, while the other was a minor enhancement martial technique.

Jane and Mical were also done with their opponents, and he obtained attributes from them as well.

The battle had ended before it had even truly begun as Jane smoothly dealt with the remaining creatures.

’It’s my turn.’ Sunless smirked and brandished his sword.

Combining the light feather sword technique and the mountainous river sword technique he had picked up, his blade released a low hum. A strange, unsettling sword light shot out from the edge.

The sword light looked calm and swift, yet carried the momentum of a raging mountain river.

Just as the wolves lunged at him, they froze mid-stride as the sword light cleanly severed their heads from their necks.

Their lifeless bodies collapsed to the ground with dull thuds, leaving everyone dumbfounded.

Jane stared at her brother as though she’d seen a ghost.

’Hi—his cultivation... whathe hell?’

She hadn’t paid attention before because she never expected such a drastic change in Sunless’ cultivation, but... what the hell had happened to him in just a few days?
