100\% Drop Rate: I Pick Up Attributes to Become Invincible!-Chapter 40: Inhabitants of the Spirit Continent
She pulled up the map, studied its contents, and said, "Our destination is towards the northeast. Before the stench of blood attracts other wild animals, everyone move out!"
"Yes, commander!" everyone answered, with the exception of Sunless and Sonia, since the whole thing was a little unexpected for them.
However, everyone’s voice was filled with a mix of malice, bitterness, and a bunch of other complex emotions.
"Move out. Sonia and Angeline take the first back watch."
Just as Jennifer gave the cold order, Sunless calmly interrupted her. "She’s not a martial warrior yet. I’ll handle it and her watch."
Jennifer spared him a glance, then her gaze shifted to Sonia. After some deliberation, she nodded.
Sonia wanted to refute Sunless’ offer, but she couldn’t voice out her words when Sunless shot her a stern glance.
She clenched her fist, the feeling of powerlessness settling in her tight, aching chest.
Sunless and the silent nun moved to the back, leaving the others walking in front.
Taking a closer look at the nun, Sunless realized she was a beauty, not in the least bit inferior to Sonia.
And with her busty frame being tightly hugged by her black nun outfit... the sight alone was enough to make any sane man go wild with all sorts of thoughts.
Sunless didn’t pay any attention to her soft curves and instead shifted his gaze to his surroundings.
For now, he was just going with the flow of the whole situation.
He didn’t like this ruthless, controlling side of Jennifer, but he hadn’t said anything yet because he was waiting to see how everything would play out.
If she crossed the line, he would definitely not hesitate to cause a commotion.
With all these thoughts settling into place, Sunless and the others continued through the dark forest and slightly uneven rocky terrain beneath their boots.
Along the way, they encountered a few more wolves that tried to sneak up behind them, but Sunless swiftly dealt with them before they briskly walked far away from the location to avoid attracting more beasts due to the metallic smell.
Time passed in this fashion, and gradually, far off into the distance, the group noticed light spilling onto the ground from above.
The canopy tree that had been blotting out the sun previously had finally reached its end.
The group increased their pace, and in a few moments, they reached the warm sun as it spilled over their faces.
Finally, everyone could feel the uniqueness of the Spirit Continent.
The first thing they felt was the abundance of spirit energy in the surroundings.
By the side, Angeline explained with a friendly smile, "The umbrella tree from before sucks all the spirit energy under its shade to support its growth, hence the reason we didn’t feel anything."
Sunless thanked her for the explanation, finally understanding why the place they’d been felt no different from the real world.
However, this place contained more than thirty times the spirit energy of the real world.
Behind them was a shade of darkness, and the massive silhouette of the umbrella tree loomed over them.
Ahead of them, light spilled over the bright, brownish trees rustling softly.
For a few kilometers, as far as their eyes could see, everything was filled with trees.
"This is going to be a long walk," Sunless let out an exasperated sigh.
The dragon stayed in a cave, but as far as he could see, there was no cave in sight.
"Yeah, it is," the nun said, giving him a friendly smile as she stretched her limbs outward.
Sunless snappily turned in the other direction, distracting himself from the sight of her massive chest.
The trio walked for more than three kilometers without encountering any humans before deciding to rest.
"It’s almost as if we’re the only people in the world. Sure, we can hear distant beast growls and screams that sound human, but it’s been so long and we’ve not encountered anyone," the talkative Ella said. She seemed to have gotten over the fact that they were tricked into coming on this mission and chatted like nothing had happened.
The group looked at her, and the brute couldn’t help scratching his head.
"I’m sure soon enough we’d encounter spirit-men."
"Ohh, spirit-men... I’ve never seen one before!"
According to the news, spirit-men looked no different from humans and were the original inhabitants of this world, hence their name.
"Spirit-men?" Sunless muttered under his breath, listening to their conversation.
Jennifer sat by the side, hugging her knees, staring off into the distance as though she was thinking about something.
Beside her, her eyes flickering with curiosity, Sonia couldn’t help asking, "Are spirit-men vastly different from normal humans? Is there something special about them?"
Before the talkative Ella could explain, Jane beat her to it.
Starting with a smile, she said, "Normally, humans are extremely similar to spirit-men in looks. However, most spirit-men are martial warriors. This is due to their genes mutating after staying so long in a place filled with as much spirit energy as this."
Noticing Sonia’s confusion, Jane continued, "And they also have higher chances of awakening higher-ranked martial affinities, like illusions, mind control, and so many more..."
The group who were knowledgeable about this information nodded.
And Ella, finally having a chance to say something, added, "They also cultivate faster and awaken earlier than humans. Then there’s their possession of unique physiques that make them well-versed in certain aspects of cultivation, like increased cultivation speed or higher affinity to fire elemental techniques or cultivation techniques. Simply put, they are heaven’s favorite!"
At her explanation, Jane couldn’t help rolling her eyes and muttered under her breath, "I was going to say that!"
Sonia’s eyes widened, and she made an O shape with her mouth before finally nodding, understanding more about the complexity of this world.
The group continued gisting, with Sonia asking questions occasionally whenever she felt confused. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
After listening in for a while, Sunless recalled something, then stood up and walked over to Jennifer, who was still staring off into the distance, seemingly lost in thought.
The moment he sat beside her, everyone turned to glance at them in guarded suspicion, and Sonia couldn’t help narrowing her eyes.
Jennifer’s eyes were filled with surprise as she glanced up at Sunless.
"Thought you’d keep hating me and holding malice like the others," she said with a bitter smile.
Sunless glanced at the badge in her hand and laughed. "Would you believe me if I told you I don’t know much about what’s going on, and why they’re so respectful of the badge?"
Jennifer seemed stunned by his bluntness. Then she burst out laughing. "You’re an amusing young man, Sunless. So, why did you stick around?"
"We made a business deal. You fulfill your end, and I stick around to complete mine."
"How daring..." Jennifer pulled her hair behind her ears and leaned back slightly, accentuating her curves as she glanced at Sunless with a peculiar, intense emotion in her eyes.
"As expected of the car devil."
"I came to ask you about something," Sunless said, not minding the nickname.
"What’s up?" Jennifer inquired, raising a brow.
"Have you heard about something called a luck stone?"
