Mystic Overlord: Reading Gives Strength
Chapter 1379 - 1373: Right Here
After noting the necessary information, Ronald didn't linger on the treehouse balcony.
He took Catherine straight to the street below, and began explaining his plan to his companion:
"Catherine, there are quite a few critical pieces of intelligence we have now, and I think the most important are as follows—"
"First, we must deal with this invisible entity. Whether it was trying to crush us by knocking down trees earlier or altering the maze terrain to impede our progress, it's clear there's no possibility of reconciliation between us."
"Second, although this entity is invisible, it has a physical form and can be affected by objects. When it moved through the dust earlier, it left a trail, and its subsequent actions also disturbed the air. This is a solid conclusion."
"Third, is this creature's mode of action. When we first entered the maze, it made no moves against us. But as we approached the city center, it gradually began to act. I believe there's a need to probe this aspect as well..."
Catherine's mind was sharp.
Ronald had barely spoken a few words before she deduced the intention:
"So, your plan—it's to use this creature's hostility towards us to lure it out, and then rely on its physical form to subdue it?"
"Simply put, yes." Ronald acknowledged Catherine's deduction and continued, "Therefore, the key to our next move is how to lure it out and then control it..."
During the few minutes of discussion, Ronald and Catherine returned downstairs.
The moment they stepped out of the treehouse door, they fell silent, no longer mentioning the specific content of the plan against this enemy.
Because they knew this creature was lurking around them and ready to react. Continuing to openly discuss how to deal with the enemy would be akin to conspiring loudly in front of enemy troops.
Thus, Ronald and Catherine resumed their maze strategy.
They walked through the city-formed maze, circumventing obstacles and probing passable areas, methodically integrating the observations they had made and the differences in the actual terrain.
It appeared as if they didn't consider the maze's ability to change shape as a significant threat.
Still, this attempt essentially started from scratch.
Moreover, the observation of the city wasn't as comprehensive or clear as the earlier time on the suspension bridge.
Thus, Ronald and Catherine spent almost twice the time compared to before to re-plan the overall route.
Fortunately, as with most things in the world.
Once a dominant route was secured, the speed of advancing actions would increase significantly.
About fifteen minutes passed, and Ronald and Catherine gradually entered the zone.
They bypassed many obstructed streets, treating a point far from the city center as a new starting point, and continued their journey towards the destination.
The new journey began just as smoothly.
No one emerged to stop them from deciphering the new maze structure, and there were no subsequent changes.
But half an hour later.
As Ronald and Catherine pushed their path forward halfway, the sound of trees collapsing erupted from the left front.
Having anticipated this scenario, Ronald reached out to grab Catherine.
They stopped just before entering the alley and quietly watched as a tree from the opposite street fell, completely blocking their path.
Catherine gazed at the scene, her eyes cold:
"Ronald, this creature is starting again."
Ronald replied calmly:
"It's alright. Since this path is blocked, we'll just take a detour."
Having a thorough grasp of the maze situation, Ronald remained focused.
Upon hearing this, Catherine, standing beside him, had no objections. They simply stepped back a little.
And then... there was silence.
This hidden enemy, at this moment, reacted just as Ronald had anticipated. Only when they reached a certain position near the maze core did this creature take corresponding action.
Thus, bypassing a street, Ronald and Catherine chose to continue forward.
Though nearing a similar position later, this time they deliberately chose a forked path instead of a straight street.
Rumble—
The sound of another building collapsing resonated.
Ronald and Catherine, positioned safely, clearly saw a building on the opposite street crashing down. Witnessing this, they didn't hesitate, suddenly accelerating toward another path of the forked route.
Based on earlier observations.
They knew the enemy could alter only one location at a time in the maze, thus couldn't manage two points simultaneously. Using the forked road, they weren't hindered in the slightest, successfully advancing further.
Curiously.
Afterwards, Ronald and Catherine didn't continue pressing forward, closing the distance to the city center. Especially after Ronald whispered a reminder, they instead turned right, heading toward a path slightly further from the city center, almost parallel to the previous direction!
Advancing for a while, the rumbling sound finally broke out.
It was as if the enemy was baffled why these two intended to enter the city center chose a path away at this moment.
Yet, not long after, Ronald dramatically accelerated following the latest rumble, turning at the first alley ahead and rapidly shortening the distance to the city center.
The enemy hindering their progress simply didn't want them nearing the city center.
This sudden burst of speed greatly provoked the enemy disrupting and reshaping the maze.
Thus, amid Ronald and Catherine's sprint.
The crashing sounds of trees and houses intensified.
But leveraging their earlier reconnaissance and thought, Ronald and Catherine continued sprinting at full pace, utterly undisturbed, showing no sign of slowing down.
Then, to further delay their steps.
This invisible enemy even destroyed the collapsed ruins to redesign an annoying terrain.
Crash—
Another rumble echoed as the terrain changed.
Yet, having just turned down an alley, Ronald and Catherine didn't continue running, but suddenly stopped.
Ronald turned, his gaze unyielding, decisively stating:
"Alright, this is the place!"
Rumble—
In the next instant, the rumbling sounded once more.
But this time, the noise from a falling building did not originate from the one the enemy had just shoved. Instead, a tall treehouse nearby collapsed amid the freshly settled rubble.
The direction of its fall.
Was directly behind the building the enemy had demolished just moments before!
