----------------------------------------------------------
It was Saturday.
Hisako Arato watched as Erina meticulously did her hair and makeup before heading out. Today, Erina had an appointment. She had told Hisako in advance that she was going shopping with her friend, Renz, and had asked Hisako to join them to avoid any misinterpretations from the public.
This explanation caused a huge question mark to appear above Hisakoâs head, and she still couldnât quite wrap her mind around it. What did this mean?
Initially, Hisakoâs thinking was simple: Erina-sama and Renz had no deep connection; they were just ordinary friends. Erina was worried about the media sensationalizing and misrepresenting their relationship, so she called Hisako to prevent such a situation.
However, seeing the usually unfeminine Erina actually doing her hair and makeup was an unimaginable shock for Hisako. It was well-known that Erinaâs emotional intelligence wasnât high. Her often stubborn words frequently annoyed people, and with her complete devotion to cooking, Hisako could confidently say that the Erina-sama was utterly lacking in feminine charm.
She had never seen Erina wear makeup. She always relied on her natural beauty.
But recently, Erinaâs actions had undergone a dramatic transformation. She began to consider othersâ feelings, at least offering them an out, no longer being so sharp-tongued or confrontational. Now, she was even... doing her own makeup?
Their relationship wasnât simple! Hisako Arato was certain of it. The private relationship between Erina and Renz was not as simple as she had thought.
She also had a very, very bold idea. Could it be that Erina and Renz were already in a romantic relationship, and her presence at this Saturday shopping trip was just a cover for Erina?
Thatâs right. She was providing cover for the Erina-sama!
Impossible! Hisako Arato slapped her own cheek. With the Erina-samaâs discerning taste, anyone she fancied would surely have some outstanding qualities. This person named Renz, currently, besides making decent ramen, seemed to fall short in every other aspect. He was simply not worthy of the Erina-sama of Nakiri family.
In Hisako Aratoâs heart, Erinaâs status was supreme.
However, the situation wasnât clear yet, and she couldnât jump to conclusions. She would observe first; it was possible she was just overthinking things.
At this moment, Erina in the room seemed to have finished her light makeup. She wore sunglasses, her hair tied up, and a dark purple beret complemented a light gray sweater, with a thin, snow-white spring down jacket over it.
"Are you going out like that?" Erina seemed to be dissatisfied with some aspect of her appearance, constantly checking herself in the mirror. She glanced at Hisako Arato and asked, somewhat surprised.
Hisako Arato looked at Erina, then reached out and pinched her arm. Is this real? she wondered. When did Erina-sama learn such masterful makeup skills? Has she become a different person? The makeup was very subtle, making it seem as if she hadnât applied any, yet this was precisely its brilliance; it subtly enhanced her appearance.
With this makeup, Erina, who was already a natural charmer, became even more captivating. This made Hisako Arato, who had planned to just throw on any outfit and leave, feel compelled to put in some effort to dress herself up as well.
"So slow," Renz grumbled at the station.
"So slow," Mashiro Shiina echoed beside him.
Aside from brushing his teeth and washing his face, Renz didnât do anything else. Only for major events would he allow Erina to help him apply light makeup. What was that called again? According to Erina, it was social etiquette; even men should pay attention to their appearance on important occasions.
Just as his thoughts wandered wildly, a familiar figure waved to Renz in the distance.
He had waited for about five minutes. But Renz didnât mention the wait time; after all, five minutes wasnât long, and Renz had noticed the makeup on Erinaâs face.
My wife, as beautiful as ever. This five-minute wait was worth it. A younger-looking Erina was truly wonderful.
"Hello, Renz-kun. I am Hisako Arato, Erina-samaâs roommate," Hisako Arato introduced herself formally. "Our last meeting was a bit rushed, and I didnât get a chance to properly introduce myself. I was worried you didnât hear clearly, so let me reintroduce myself."
"Hello, Iâm Renz," Renz said with a smile. Hisako Arato, his wifeâs best friend, was a very good friend and had often run errands for them in the future. Renz had a very good impression of Hisako.
"Huh, Mashiro, why are you here?" Hisako Arato asked, her eyes wide. Mashiro Shiina used to play with them when she was little, and even though she had grown up, Hisako could still vaguely recognize her features.
"To clarify, I entrusted Mashiro to Renz to look after," Erina said from beside him.
"Yeah, I wasnât comfortable leaving Mashiro Shiina alone at home," Renz said, shrugging helplessly. "Since weâre going shopping, we might as well all go together."
Hisako Arato had a million complaints brewing in her mind. Just how close were the Erina-sama and Renz? She was even entrusting her own cousin to him for care? Would the Director General be okay with this? No! Would Mashiroâs parents be okay with this?
"Also, Hisako, I have some news for you now." Erina skillfully draped her hand over Renzâs arm. "This is my boyfriend. I believe I told you last time, but you seem to have selectively forgotten."
Hisako Arato felt like she was spitting blood internally. "Boyfriend?!?" Hisako had considered this possibility before leaving, but she never imagined that the very question sheâd just pondered would be answered by Erina-sama in the blink of an eye. And it was an answer she hadnât even dared to imagine.
Although it had been mentioned last time, Hisako hadnât believed the news, thinking it was a joke, so she had subconsciously forgotten about it and avoided mentioning it. But now, looking at the expressions on both of their faces, it seemed to be confirmed.
Renz probably understood Erinaâs intention. The Director General mostly learned about Erina through Hisako Arato. If Renz and Erina were getting close, the Director General would find out sooner or later. Asking Hisako to keep it a secret was unrealistic. In fact, if Hisako tried to conceal it and failed, then was questioned by the Director General, it would be most detrimental to Renz and Erina.
It was better to reveal information little by little. He wouldnât mention getting married yet. At their current age, dating was quite normal, right?
Besides, as long as they saw it as âdatingâ and not âactual marriage,â there shouldnât be any major problems.
"Ah, we just started dating," Renz admitted with a nod. "I was the one who confessed."
"The moment my confession succeeded, I had already thought of names for my children," Renz teased, half-jokingly. "My first daughter, Iâll name her Rina Nakiri. How does that sound? Pretty, right?"
