My Tribrid System: More than a Monster
Chapter 271: Doing the right thing
Chapter 269
The number of beasts was beginning to reduce at an astonishing rate, as only a few dozen were left on the field.
Seeing that the numbers were almost cleared up, the Aspirants gained a second wind and began actively trying their hardest to finish them off so they could finally rest. ๐ณ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐.๐ฐ๐ ๐ฆ
The control tower and Lincoln were watching the battle through their different devices with subtle smiles on their faces, knowing that the engagement was almost over.
Unknown to them, another conflict was going on on the sidelines.
A battle of morals.
"What needs to be done, has to be done."
"The hell does that mean?" Van almost shouted aloud, but he quickly looked around for a moment before lowering his voice.
Still, it didnโt do much to hide his deep anger and frustration.
"Between Ray and you, I always thought you were more sensible and calmer than he will ever be. And now you are about to do this? What kind of stupidity is this? Do you know the panic that will happen when the legacy family he comes from finds out?"
"My family will handle that."
At this point, Van felt like slapping himself on the face, but he withheld the urge and scanned the area in anger.
At that time, Trisha could be seen walking out of the office building with the survivors following closely after her.
The Iron Corps members who were less busy rushed forward to receive the civilians.
Ray had also rejoined the battle after delivering the people from the prayer house.
Angrily touching his communication bud, Vanโs eyes flashed blue for a second as he connected with the rest of the squad.
"Guys. Iโm trying my best here, but Kai doesnโt want to listen to reason."
"Huh? Kai? What happened to him?" Ray questioned as he suddenly halted, turning around to search for where his handsome roommate was.
"What does he want to do?" Chloe asked, stopping her assault after running completely out of arrows.
"He wants to eliminate Berg discreetly," Van reported anxiously.
Even while all this was going on, Kai didnโt stop moving toward the Legacy with the beasts trailing right on his tail.
"..."
There was a brief moment of silence on the comms before Ray cocked a brow.
"Okay? How is that an issue? I was even wanting to do the same thing when this whole mess is over with."
"I mean... Why should he be left alive after all he has done? He tried to take Ray out multiple times too," Felix chimed in after punching a beast away.
Van was left with his mouth agape for a few seconds, completely unable to believe what his friends were saying right now.
"Girls, help me here."
"No comment," Trisha coldly uttered as she re-entered the field.
"Kai, donโt do that," Chloe anxiously chided down the comm device, but her plea fell on entirely deaf ears.
Ray shrugged as if the whole matter didnโt concern him, turning his gaze toward the barricaded gate where about five more beasts were currently walking out.
Felix also caught sight of them, along with Trisha and Caster.
They all darted toward the portal in hopes of taking them down before they could walk past the perimeter and add to the othersโ troubles.
"Seriously? No one sees any harm in what he is planning on doing?" Van muttered in disbelief.
"Kai! Are you crazy? Donโt do it!" Chloe shouted through her line.
Angrily, Kai yanked the small bud from his ear and tossed it away.
His face was full of cold determination as he closed the distance, now just two meters away from Berg.
Van was completely stumped.
He could tell that the connection with Kai had already been lost.
What was he supposed to do?
How was he going to stop the blonde-haired youth from doing what he planned on doing?
"VaโVan... Iโm scared. What do we do? How do we stop him?" Chloe asked through the comm, but she was already rushing toward his position.
The boy scanned his surroundings with a confused look.
He didnโt know what to do.
Nothing was coming to mind until an Iron Corps member was suddenly smashed in the chest by a spiderโs scythe.
The manโs hands flared in the air as the advanced tech gun he was holding flew from his grasp and crashed onto the ground, sliding a few steps before coming to a halt.
Van caught sight of this.
It took less than a second for an idea to creep into his mind.
"Chloe! Send that gun my way!" Van shouted as he launched forward.
Leaping into the air, he landed on a half-destroyed car, then vaulted for a few seconds before landing on another vehicle.
Leaping forward again, he landed on a bus.
Chloe stretched her hands forward, and the weapon rose into the air before flying toward Van, who was still leaping from structure to structure while heading toward Kai.
Raising his hands into the air, the firearm flew directly into his grasp.
Immediately, his eyes flashed a bright blue as the device whirred to life in his hands.
Leaping into the air, he aimed and closed one eye.
Pulling the trigger, a small, concentrated beam shaped like a bullet tore forward and smashed into one of the beastโs eyes.
The shot was powerful enough to blast the eye into oblivion, causing the spider to screech out in pain.
Kai was confused, looking up to see Van cocking the weapon and then latching onto the side of a building before releasing another shot that tore through two limbs of another beast, forcing it to crash into the ground.
Vaulting forward, Van unleashed another consecutive, rapid shot toward the tendons holding the neck of another beast, ripping it open as dark fluids flowed onto the concrete floor.
"Van! What are you doing?!" Kai shouted as he could see his plan failing in real time.
Landing on the head of another beast, Van cocked the firearm once more and then glared at the last creature.
"Doing the right, sensible thing."
**Powโ!**
A final shot was unleashed.
