Bai Sijia stepped out of the study and walked to the terrace on the second floor. She spotted Ye Lu’s solitary figure walking along the quiet mountain road, giving a faint sneer before picking up her phone.

"Sister Jiayin, do you want revenge? That woman is alone now!"

Yuan Jiayin had just quarreled with Shang Jingchen and was full of rage with no outlet. At these words, she sneered.

"If it weren’t for her, how could I have been abandoned by Shang Jingchen? This vile woman will truly suffer this time."

"By the way, she’s pregnant."

"Oh, that’s even better; nothing hurts a woman more than losing a child. I’ll show her the consequences of crossing me." Yuan Jiayin’s voice was full of bone-deep hatred, chilling to the bone.

Ye Lu plodded along the mountain road in a daze. The shock of recent events had plunged her into deep grief. She felt drained, and after half an hour’s walk, exhaustion was setting in.

She found a streetlight and sat beneath its dim glow, the cold winter wind making her shiver uncontrollably.

Only then did she remember she was a mother-to-be, and that she couldn’t let herself get cold or else it might harm the baby.

Even though her child’s father had abandoned her twice, she herself would never abandon her baby.

She curled up, knees against her chest, shielding herself a little from the biting wind.

She looked around blankly. The roads around the villas were eerily quiet, with no sign of any vehicles passing by, let alone a taxi.

After a while, she picked up her phone and dialed the taxi service number, sitting motionless as she waited for it to arrive.

A few minutes later, a vehicle approached, its bright lights blinding her. She shielded her eyes with her hand.

"Is it the taxi?" She couldn’t make out the features of the vehicle as she heard doors slam shut and the commotion of more than one man unfold.

"There’s someone under that streetlight, it’s her. We’ve found her, it must be her."

"Shush, don’t make noise."

Ye Lu’s vacant mind was suddenly filled with alarm. Who were these men? She already saw them rushing towards her.

Her face drained of color as she clumsily jumped to her feet and started running up the hillside.

"Don’t let her run, catch her." This time it was the menacing and ruthless voice of a woman.

Ye Lu vented a sharp gasp, her face paled even more. It was Yuan Jiayin’s voice. Why was this woman here, accompanied by so many men?

Thinking of Bai Sijia, she instantly understood. Those two women, colluding together, Bai Sijia must have informed Yuan Jiayin.

Seething with outrage, Ye Lu pushed even harder against the ground, running harder uphill and reaching for her phone to call the police.

But she was too tired, and being pregnant, there was no way she could outrun them. The burly men quickly caught up with her, encircling her.

Ye Lu turned completely pale, trembling with terror as she stared at these fierce-looking men. She was filled with a sense of foreboding.

What could she do now? Who would come to save her and her child?

Tears of helplessness welled up in her eyes.

One of the men roughly grabbed her phone and handed it to Yuan Jiayin.

Yuan Jiayin sneered coldly, smashed the phone on the ground, and crushed it under her foot. "Trying to call the police? Dream on, Ye Lu. Tonight, I’ll make sure you die horrible here. Grab her."

She ordered them to seize Ye Lu.

Ye Lu’s face turned pale. At this moment, she realized that no one would be coming to save her. She could die, but she was still carrying two children inside of her.
