My Scheming Little Devil
Chapter 1356: Gone Mad
Ye Lu was growing even more anxious, not understanding why he would not speak, not explain. Explain it quickly! This simply couldn’t be possible. Why wouldn’t he explain? As long as he said it wasn’t true, she would absolutely believe him.
She was almost frantic with anxiety. Why wouldn’t he speak?
Third Young Master Jun looked at her, frantic like an ant on a hot pan, that scorched expression on her face, his eyes darkened, and after a long silence, he finally spoke.
"Have you forgotten that your father was assassinated two to three years ago?"
His voice, calm and merciless, floated in the chilly, still air like snowflakes, bringing a blast of cold that made one’s fingertips tremble.
Ye Lu was stunned by his sudden words, staring at him blankly, her lips quivering as she dumbly asked, "What do you mean?"
Seeing her clueless look, Third Young Master Jun closed his eyes briefly, turned his head to look out the window, where the bright sunlight shone on the glass panes, streaming in so brilliantly yet unable to warm hearts that were growing colder.
"Speak," Ye Lu’s voice trembled with inexplicable fear, looking at his desolate figure, her heart feeling unbearably suppressed.
Without turning back, Ye Lu couldn’t see his expression at the moment, but she could only hear his exceptionally calm yet faintly sorrowful voice.
"I don’t believe you don’t understand what I mean. You want a negative answer from me, but you know very well what the truth of the matter is."
"I just don’t understand," Ye Lu’s pupils dilated with anger as she glared at him, but her voice couldn’t help trembling, "What do you want me to understand? Understand that two or three years ago, you didn’t even know me, had no idea this person would become your father-in-law? Or understand that at that time you were under Godfather’s command, acting upon his orders, eliminating all threats to him..."
She blurted out a string of words in one breath, her heart aching intensely with each intense phrase spoken, her eyes growing misty, she looked up at him, dispirited and dazed.
"All I want is for you to tell me that what’s unsaid is not all there is. All I need is one word of denial from you, and I will believe you."
She didn’t want to engage in rational speculation based on supposed clues.
What she needed was just one answer from him; she would believe anything he said.
"I’m sorry," was all Third Young Master Jun had to say, those two words signifying acknowledgment.
"Sorry for what? Could it be... you really were involved... in the assassination of my father?"
Ye Lu’s voice was incredibly hoarse; she gasped for breath, her body swaying slightly, her pale face filled with disbelief, tears blurring her vision, she slumped powerlessly onto the sofa. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
"At that time... I never thought that he would become... my kin, one day. How ironic fate is," said Third Young Master Jun, his voice incredibly dim, laced with self-mockery.
Ye Lu’s lips trembled, unable to utter a word. She covered her face with both hands in utter anguish, burying her head into her knees, feeling an absurd sense of desolation and indescribable sorrow.
What was this all about? She had exhausted every effort to find the murderer of her father from those years ago, yet that murderer turned out to be the man she loved.
Her own husband was involved in the assassination of her father, caused her father’s death.
Crazy!
Tears trickled down between her fingers, at this moment she didn’t know what she was thinking, feeling only a supreme sense of oppression and misery.
How could such ironic events exist in this world, and to have fallen upon her, what was she to do?
