My Scheming Little Devil
Chapter 1299: Truly Disappointing
"Shadow, I command you to stop!" Ye Lu suddenly commanded him loudly.
In the midst of battle, surrounded by a murderous aura, with his cold, waveless eyes, Shadow suddenly froze, the punch he was swinging came to an abrupt halt, his breathing rapid, dropping to his knees on the ground.
Those guards took advantage of his unguarded moment to quickly capture him and tie him up.
After being tied up, he just silently looked at her with deep eyes, flickering with anger, disappointment, and sorrow.
"I didn’t lie to you, why are you doing this to me?" His voice was low, and his pale face looked very sad.
That look made Ye Lu feel guilty and even somewhat unbearable. Could it be she was wrong? Perhaps he used to be an assassin, but now he really has lost his memory. Coming to her was by chance and not intentional; it was all just too coincidental.
Ling Kong’s little face was grim: "Don’t be fooled by him, he’s just seeking sympathy."
"Don’t you believe me?" Shadow looked at him, stunned.
Ye Lu sighed, closed her eyes briefly, and said coldly: "I trust Ling Kong’s judgment. Lock him up!"
Shadow was shocked, looking at her in disbelief. Then, the confused emotions in his eyes vanished, replaced by a sinister, sarcastic smile at the corner of his mouth, filled with the chill of a dark creature.
His lifeless eyes stared constantly at Ye Lu, like the luminescent eyes of a wild animal in the night, making one shiver.
"Oh, it’s really not easy to deceive you, choosing to trust a little brat over your lifesaver. You truly disappoint me," Shadow said, raising his forehead in a slow tease.
Ye Lu shivered and recoiled in shock.
Ling Kong had already moved in front of her, squinting, waving a small hand: "Take him down and lock him up with the strongest devices. Someone like him probably has a strong ability to escape."
Shadow did not resist, nor did he show any panic at being captured; he just looked at Ye Lu with a bizarre gaze.
Then he was taken away.
Hua Lunxi’s face darkened: "Your situation is very dangerous. This assassin’s origins are unknown, and Yiren has also made a move against you. Have you decided to reveal your identity?
"Yes, the more dangerous it is, the less I have to lose." Ye Lu’s mood calmed down instead.
...
"King, how come you’ve come to North America?" Jun Shengnan, Third Young Master Jun’s aunt, looked at the visiting Third Young Master Jun and Lie Feng, who was following behind him, with a puzzled expression.
Ever since Third Young Master Jun was set on marrying Ye Lu, Jun Shengnan was very annoyed and had always been dissatisfied with her nephew’s wife. After an unpleasant parting in their homeland, she had returned to North America.
"There’s some business I need to take care of. This visit is mainly to ask for a favor from my aunt," Third Young Master Jun sat on the sofa, apparently having forgotten the past displeasure, his demeanor sincere.
"What business?"
"To introduce me to your father-in-law, the head of the Rosmandanli family, Old Ross!"
"What? You want to see him?" Jun Shengnan showed a look of shock.
Old Ross, a highly influential figure in both the political and business worlds, was someone even as a member of the family, she seldom had the chance to meet. She would only catch a glimpse of the family head from a distance at family gatherings.
"I know this is difficult, but aunt, this is very important to me. Moreover, I promise that this will definitely benefit your position within the family."
Jun Shengnan weighed her options and asked with curiosity: "It’s rare to see you take something so seriously, but I’m curious, for whom do you want to meet Old Ross?"
