My CEO HUSBAND:sign the divorce
Chapter 53: Why Do You Cover for Him?
I almost lost my life today...
And my husband wasn’t even here.
Instead, he was with his mistress—leaving the moment she called.
A bitter laugh escaped my lips.
How unfortunate could I possibly be?
His own relatives tried to hurt me... all because of him—without even knowing the truth about our marriage.
And yet, the man at the center of it all... didn’t care enough to even check on me.
Not even once.
He had probably switched off his phone just to avoid me.
And here I was...
Still expecting something from him.
I thought I could stop caring about him—about where he was, what he was doing.
But it turns out...
You can’t just stop loving someone overnight.
Not after six years of loving him... and two years of marriage.
And right now—
That was the battle I was losing.
The next morning, when I woke up, I checked my phone. There were still no calls or messages from Alexander.
I had no choice but to accept the harsh reality—I had been abandoned.
He couldn’t even save face in front of his family. He had simply discarded me for his mistress.
Pushing the thought aside, I got up, arranged my things, and took a shower. When I returned to the room, someone knocked before letting herself in.
It was Grace.
"Good morning, Sister Alicia."
"Morning, Grace."
"How do you feel now?"
"Much better, as you can see," I said with a small chuckle.
She looked at me with concern. "Nana wanted to know if you’d prefer to have breakfast with her or in your room."
"With her... in her room?" I asked in surprise.
Grace nodded.
Without thinking much of it, I replied, "I’ll join her shortly."
Grace nodded again and left, closing the door behind her.
I knew exactly why Nana wanted to see me. It must be about Alexander’s sudden disappearance yesterday.
"Good morning, Nana," I greeted with a smile as I sat at the already prepared table in her room.
The table was filled with breakfast and tea. I remembered her mentioning once that the tea was good for relieving stress—and even beneficial for pregnant women—so I poured myself a cup.
"How do you feel? Does anything still hurt?" she asked, her voice full of concern.
"Don’t worry, Nana. I’m absolutely fine," I reassured her.
"But you look so pale. Are you sure we don’t need to see the doctor again?"
"I’m fine, really. There’s no need to worry."
After several attempts, I finally managed to convince her and began eating, hoping to avoid any sensitive topics.
A moment later, she spoke again.
"I’ve already contacted the company’s legal team. They’ll handle everything with the police."
I nodded. "Thank you, Nana."
"There’s no need to thank me. It was my fault for allowing such people into this place. And Alexander..." she frowned. "Why isn’t he here yet? I can’t even reach him."
I stiffened slightly at the mention of his name but quickly masked it.
"Maybe he’s busy with work," I said.
"Busy? On a weekend?" she scoffed. "Why do you always cover for him? If he’s not treating you well, you can tell me."
For a moment, I considered telling her the truth.
But I quickly dismissed the idea.
"Don’t worry, Nana. Alexander and I will figure everything out together," I said with a forced smile.
Her health wasn’t stable. I couldn’t burden her with our problems.
After breakfast, I told her I wanted to leave. She tried to persuade me to stay and rest, but I insisted.
Eventually, she gave in and asked the chauffeur to drive me home. She mentioned they would stay for the rest of the weekend before returning to the mansion.
I said my goodbyes to Nadia, Uncle Steve, Aunt Rose, and Grace before leaving.
