Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!
Chapter 886: Let Her Be Herself
Upon hearing Miles Sterling’s answer, Bianca Jennings seemed not at all surprised and softly responded, "Then it depends on whether you care more about her feelings or your own."
This question made Miles Sterling frown painfully.
In the past, he would have only cared about himself because back then, he never considered things from Vanessa Sterling’s perspective.
But now, seeing Vanessa live a comfortable and carefree life, it felt too cruel to imprison her by his side again like he used to.
Wasn’t there a way for Vanessa to live the life she wanted and for him to not be in so much pain?
It seemed like everything was blocking him from being with Vanessa.
Or perhaps the root of the problem was that Vanessa’s heart resisted and disliked him, and she never really wanted to be with him.
If they were in love, they surely could face all the problems together.
Seeing Miles Sterling drinking gloomily, Bianca Jennings continued, "You’re married now, why not try to let go of the past and start a new life?"
"Let go? Easier said than done."
"In life, not everything can go as you wish. Vanessa has let go of the hurt from the past and started a new life, why can’t you?"
"You simply don’t understand what she means to me."
"Since I started interacting with you, you’ve always expressed how important Vanessa is to you. But if she’s so important, why did you do those things to her?"
Miles Sterling forcefully placed the empty glass on the table, slightly losing control, "But I’ve changed now! Why can’t she remember my goodness?! I saved her!"
Bianca Jennings remained calm and composed, pausing to think, and said, "Let me give you an example. You say you saved Vanessa’s life, so she should be grateful to you. Well, your life was given to you by your parents, yet they never think about issues from your perspective. Take this marriage, for instance, they made the decision without your consent. Are you grateful to them or do you resent them?"
Miles Sterling fell silent.
Bianca Jennings: "Your beatings and torture have long worn away her gratitude. The last time you got shot saving her, that young girl had no intention of seeing you. Instead, she was afraid you’d cause trouble when you woke up and fled the hospital in haste, not daring to stay a moment longer. So you can imagine the shadow you’ve cast over her, shadows that might follow her for life."
Miles Sterling murmured, "Is there really no way?"
Bianca Jennings sighed deeply and said meaningfully, "Let her be herself."
Miles Sterling said nothing more, only picked up the bottle and drank directly from it.
Bianca Jennings silently got up and walked to the door, saying to a passing staff member, "When he gets drunk, drive him back."
"Okay, Miss Jennings."
The night was dark and deep, and there were fewer vehicles and pedestrians on the streets than during the day.
Colorful neon lights reflected onto the river, leaving waves of color.
A silver sedan sped over the bridge, its high speed making other drivers who brushed past it apprehensive.
...
After finishing her work, Bianca Jennings came across a staff member sitting on the sofa playing with his phone and asked, "Is he still drinking?"
The staff member, while controlling a game character on his phone, said, "Probably, I haven’t seen him come out, anyway."
Bianca Jennings pushed open the door and saw the dim lights of the room, the coffee table littered with empty bottles and broken glass on the floor, and Miles Sterling was no longer on the sofa.
"This is what you mean by he hasn’t come out?"
The staff member was startled, then put away his phone, got up to check around, but found no trace of Miles Sterling and muttered in confusion, "It doesn’t make sense. I’ve been sitting here the whole time and didn’t see him leave."
As he spoke, he seemed to remember something, startled, and said, "Oh! I went to the bathroom half an hour ago, but it was only for a few minutes. Could he have left then?"
Bianca Jennings took a breath and thought about how much Miles Sterling had drunk. If he drove himself, who knows what might happen.
She took out her phone and dialed Miles Sterling’s number.
The phone rang for a long time before being answered, but it was a girl’s voice: "Hello? Are you a friend of the phone owner?"
Bianca Jennings was taken aback and heard chaotic noise in the background, including what seemed like the sound of an ambulance siren, filling her with a foreboding: "I am. What’s happened to him?"
"He was in a car accident by Rivia Bay Bridge. I’m a staff member from the central hospital. If it’s convenient, could you come to the hospital? It’s best if you can contact his family."
The situation seemed urgent, and the woman on the other end hung up after saying just a few words.
Miles Sterling had been in a daze for some time, and Bianca Jennings always had the feeling something would happen, closely monitoring him, ensuring he was driven back if he drank, or arranging for a designated driver. But she still didn’t manage to prevent it.
Bianca Jennings immediately drove to the hospital, and en route, had her subordinates find the contact details of the Sterling and notified them.
When Bianca Jennings arrived at the hospital, the ambulance had probably just gone in a short while before. The hospital lobby floor still had traces of blood, accompanied by stretcher wheel marks, leading sporadically towards the emergency room.
A nurse with bloodstains on her coat rushed toward the emergency room holding a blood bag, suggesting the situation was quite serious.
Bianca Jennings, wary of causing unnecessary trouble, did not approach to inquire as a family member, fearing a commotion if the Sterling arrived and caused a scene.
Miles Sterling’s parents had only him, and upon hearing of his accident, rushed frantically to the hospital.
Accompanying them was Miles Sterling’s newlywed wife, Gwen Grant.
Bianca Jennings simply stood aside, watching as if an onlooker, not expecting Gwen to cast her a strange glance as she passed by, before following the Sterling elders toward the emergency room.
She didn’t know what the hospital staff told them, but from afar, Wendy Jennings’s wailing could be heard.
It seemed that Miles Sterling’s condition was not optimistic.
Although Bianca Jennings had repeatedly warned Miles Sterling to hire a driver after drinking instead of driving himself, he never listened.
Bianca Jennings felt a pang of guilt, knowing that his emotions were unstable lately and she hadn’t kept a proper watch over him, thus leading to this incident.
Before meeting Miles Sterling, Bianca Jennings had heard of his ways and felt quite averse to such a man.
But after getting to know him, she gradually understood Miles Sterling’s situation and witnessed his changes, slowly beginning to feel some sympathy for him.
She had been trying to counsel Miles Sterling to learn to let go, hoping he could start a good new life, but now, it remains uncertain whether there will be such an opportunity.
For a moment, she even thought that if he were to leave just like this, perhaps it would be a relief for Miles Sterling.
Because his obsession with Vanessa was too deep, letting go was easier said than done. His heart would only endure torturous struggles and perpetual pain.
