Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!
Chapter 849: Startling the Snake by Beating the Grass
Fifth floor of the hotel.
The room was dimly lit.
In the suite’s living room, eight people sat around the coffee table on the sofa.
Shane Warner sat beside Erin Yates, following the previous plan, hardly speaking and acting as if his wife was in charge of everything.
The main person in charge opposite them was a middle-aged man with an eye patch, accompanied by his young, alluring lover.
The man with the eye patch scrutinized Shane Warner for a moment, then smiled thoughtfully and said, "It must have been more than ten years since I last met Brother Lowell, right? He’s still as handsome as ever."
Shane Warner didn’t expect the topic to suddenly shift to him. He raised his head slightly, looking through his sunglasses at the man with the eye patch sitting opposite him.
Erin Yates curled her lips into a smile and replied, "You two knew each other before?"
The man with the eye patch smiled meaningfully and said, "Madam, you really have a lot on your plate and forget things easily. Didn’t I attend your wedding?"
Erin Yates’s smile faltered slightly. The information on the Lowells did not contain such detailed events, but her mind quickly caught up as she said, "Oh, that day was so hectic, with so many brothers around. It’s really hard to remember everything." 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
The man with the eye patch looked at Shane Warner and said, "Brother Lowell should remember me, right?"
Sensing the man with the eye patch was probing, Shane Warner responded casually, "It’s been more than ten years. I can’t remember that clearly."
Erin Yates noticed the man with the eye patch was quite cautious and probing, fearing she might reveal a flaw with more words, she changed the topic: "Everyone’s time is precious, let’s get down to business and check the goods first."
The man with the eye patch took out a cigarette from a packet, gently patted the woman’s thigh next to him, and she immediately picked up a lighter to ignite the cigarette in his mouth.
After taking a leisurely drag, the man with the eye patch said, "No rush, let’s catch up first. It’s been years since we last met. Brother Lowell, what’s up with those sunglasses... reluctant to take them off?"
Erin Yates used the excuse she had prepared: "He’s up in years and has developed eye problems. He’s sensitive to light and wears them even at home."
The man with the eye patch glanced at the tightly drawn blackout curtains behind him, and countered, "This level of light shouldn’t be an issue, right?"
Erin Yates laughed and subtly glanced at Shane Warner, who then took off his sunglasses.
Seeing the man with the eye patch rudely lean over to inspect Shane Warner’s face, Erin Yates felt a moment of anxiety.
After staring for a few seconds, the man with the eye patch sat back down in his original position and smiled, "Brother Lowell looks a bit different now, more handsome."
This was in the information, so Erin Yates followed the script and said, "We have no other hobbies, just like a bit of cosmetic enhancement. People love beauty. When you have work done on your face, if you don’t look different, wouldn’t the money be wasted?"
The man with the eye patch chuckled and said, "Makes sense. Let me take the men to get the goods; please wait here for a moment, Brother and Madam Lowell."
Erin Yates sensed something was off and smiled while pointing at the other subordinates nearby, "Do you really need to go personally? Just let them handle it."
The man with the eye patch stood up with the woman in his arms and replied, "This time the shipment is large, they all need to carry it, and I feel more assured supervising personally. After all, at this critical juncture, nothing can go wrong."
Erin Yates stood up, "Then we’ll go with you guys. It’s just checking the goods. If there’s no issue, you can take the money and go, and my people will carry the things."
The man with the eye patch smirked and replied, "That’s the rule in this line of work; you two can just wait here. It’ll only be a few minutes, the time it takes to enjoy a cup of tea."
Not knowing any such rules, Erin Yates had to nod, sit back down, and watch as the man with the eye patch and his people walked to the next room.
The bodyguards waiting outside were all from the police department, so Erin Yates wasn’t worried about them escaping.
Now their main goal was to catch them red-handed to prevent these cunning criminals from denying it when taken into custody.
Erin Yates wore a tiny earpiece hidden under her hair that hadn’t been discovered, and Franklin Sutton was already organizing the capture plan on the other end.
Due to limited manpower, they hadn’t sealed all hotel exits, only staking out the place where the group had parked.
In the next room, after the man with the eye patch and his men entered, they immediately locked the door.
Suddenly appearing flustered, he told his subordinates, "Let’s go quickly; those two are imposters. Contact Blackie to drive to the back door and check if there are any police around."
The man with the eye patch pushed open a hidden door in the wardrobe leading directly to the emergency stairs. As the woman followed him downstairs, she puzzledly asked, "Honey, how did you know there was something wrong with them?"
Man with the eye patch: "That guy’s tattoo on the back of his neck was reflective. Fortunately, I checked closely earlier, otherwise, we’d be in trouble by now. I can’t tell if they’re the police or trying to double-cross us, but we must go quickly. Brother Lowell probably already ran into trouble."
Erin Yates and Shane Warner waited in the room for two to three minutes without seeing the group return. Shane Warner calmly said, "I suspect they noticed something; they’ve probably run."
Erin Yates turned to look at the door, sensing something was wrong, got up, and softly asked the bodyguard always standing by the door, "Any activity?"
The bodyguard shook his head and glanced at the room next door, "They went in and haven’t come out."
Erin Yates waited another two minutes, listening by the door, sensing the unusual quiet inside the room.
She inquired with Franklin Sutton over the earpiece and learned that their car was still parked downstairs and they hadn’t been seen leaving the hotel.
Only then did Erin Yates knock on the door, receiving no response.
Though unsure how the group managed to escape, the current situation suggested they discovered something and fled.
After finding hotel staff to open the room, a hidden door was discovered in the compartment.
At first, they thought the group was still hiding in the hotel, preparing for a thorough search when they spotted on surveillance that the group had exited via the stairs and fled through a small door at the side of the hotel, abandoning their car.
Franklin Sutton wondered, "How did he figure out you weren’t the real Lowells? Do they have some special signal?"
Erin Yates: "I just followed the information and said what I was supposed to. I don’t think I gave anything away. What do we do now; we’ve startled the snake, making luring it out difficult."
Shane Warner’s concern was, "Can I change out of these clothes now?"
Franklin Sutton nodded, "You’re done for now; I’ll contact you if anything comes up. I’ll also keep an eye on your two friends and inform you if there’s any news."
