Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride
Chapter 1219 - 1214: Acting Under Someone’s Orders
Unexpectedly, Sophie Foster’s reaction was surprisingly calm. She looked at the grotesque half of her face in the mirror, like it had been smeared with paste, with muscles unevenly twisted together, gleaming a nauseating dark red color...
She raised her finger to gently touch it; her fingertips trembled, her eyes were slightly moist. She opened her mouth and with a hoarse voice like sandpaper, she asked, "Uncle, can it be restored...?"
"It can!" Nicholas Croft replied assuredly. "With technology so advanced now, it can definitely be restored to its former state."
Sophie Foster continued to look at herself in the mirror, her trembling fingertips slowly moving over the scars on her cheek, and she asked as if talking to herself, "Are you scared?"
A seemingly random question, yet Nicholas Croft understood.
Once such a beautiful face was now like this; even he, as a man, found it hard to accept, let alone his Lara, who loved beauty so much.
He also moved his handsome face closer, pressing half of his face against Sophie Foster’s damaged cheek and gently rubbed. The small mirror could only hold a portion of both their faces. Looking at the mirror, Nicholas Croft said firmly, "I’m not scared. No matter how Lara changes, she will always be my dearest wife."
After Nicholas Croft finished speaking, he clearly felt Sophie Foster’s body tremble slightly.
She slowly turned her face, with her fingers touching Nicholas Croft’s handsome face, her fingertips gently touched it as she murmured softly, "You’ve lost weight,"
Nicholas Croft forced a smile, "I’m on a diet,"
Sophie Foster said no more, her fingertips continued to gently rub Nicholas Croft’s face, her eyes fixed on his more defined handsome features. A tear rolled out, and she suddenly threw down the mirror and rushed into his arms, grabbing his collar, and bit his shoulder.
The wetness quickly penetrated the shirt fabric and reached his shoulder, Nicholas Croft gently patted Sophie Foster’s back to comfort her, "Cry, you’ll feel better after crying..."
After crying, Sophie Foster fell asleep leaning against Nicholas Croft’s shoulder, while Nicholas Croft maintained his posture, afraid of waking her.
The phone on the cabinet began to vibrate. Nicholas Croft glanced over; it was Lara’s number.
Gently lifting the blanket to lay Sophie Foster on the bed, he covered her with the blanket before taking the phone to the window to answer the call.
"President, it’s now confirmed that Zhou Qiang was acting under someone’s instructions!" Lara’s voice came through the receiver. Nicholas Croft asked blankly while looking out the window, "How do you know?"
"This is what happened," Lara reported truthfully what was discovered, "The investigation there at Harvard reveals that Zhou Qiang’s daughter wasn’t exceptionally admitted because of excellent grades; someone paid her high tuition fees, so the school made an exception."
"Do you know who paid?" Nicholas Croft asked coldly, looking into the dim outside with gloomy eyes.
"We haven’t found out yet. The school says it’s private information that needs protection."
"Check Hannah Hargrave’s account relationships to see if there’s been any large sum of money moved recently, where it went, and who received it!"
Nicholas Croft coldly instructed, and Lara respectfully acknowledged with a "Yes!"
Ending the call, Nicholas Croft put the phone into his palm, pocketed with one hand, and with the other, squinted his dark eyes looking at the street outside.
"Was it Hannah Hargrave who instructed it?" A hoarse voice abruptly sounded behind him, causing Nicholas Croft to turn swiftly, only to find that Sophie Foster had somehow already stood behind him.
