Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride
Chapter 1213 - 1208: Bad News, Stay Strong
"Nicholas, I’ve told you before, you need to stimulate your wife more so that she’ll want to wake up. Whether she likes it or hates it, as long as she reacts, it means she’s hearing what you’re saying!"
Facing the doctor’s serious expression, Nicholas Croft nodded, "Understood!"
After the doctor left, Nicholas Croft sat by Sophie’s bedside, holding her hand and recounting the events that had happened in recent days.
"Sophie, you know, we’re living in the hospital now. You had a car accident, and we lost our baby..."
...
Time flies so fast; in the blink of an eye, Genevieve Croft is already in kindergarten.
Nicholas Croft, a man seen as unapproachable by the media, has now become a typical doting father. Every day, he takes Genevieve to kindergarten and then goes to work, leaving work early in the evening to wait at the kindergarten gate for his little princess to finish school and go home together.
Sophie Foster, wearing an apron, happily prepares dinner in the kitchen. Since having Genevieve, she has become more qualified in her role as a mother, preparing all three meals personally.
Genevieve takes after her and likes meat, so there has to be a meat dish on the table every day.
Worried that the baby might become chubby, Sophie Foster puts in a lot of effort, trying to make each meat dish as light yet flavorful as possible... otherwise her little princess won’t eat.
She serves the steamed bass on the dining table, followed by braised pig trotters with peanuts. The book says pig trotters are rich in collagen and beautifying, so she wants to start early to ensure her little beauty at home isn’t starting life on the back foot.
With two meat dishes placed on the table, Sophie Foster then turns on the stove to stir-fry. Once the steel pan is hot, she pours in canola oil, followed by the vegetables, her flipping and tossing actions skillful. She puts two vegetable dishes on the dining table, takes off her apron, and stands at the villa’s entrance waiting for the father and daughter to return.
Seeing the familiar license plate slowly driving up, Sophie Foster’s lips naturally curve into a smile. Waiting for the father and daughter to come home for dinner is her happiest moment. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
The black Audi stops in front of Sophie Foster. The car door opens, missing the usual joyous shout of "Mommy." Nicholas Croft steps down from the driver’s seat, looking at her with a serious expression on his handsome face.
"Nicholas, where’s the baby?" Sophie Foster asks anxiously, a bad feeling growing in her heart.
"Sophie, there’s bad news. You have to be strong..." Nicholas Croft starts, his hoarse voice choking up, reddening his eyes.
"Nicholas, is it..." Sophie Foster tightly grabs Nicholas Croft’s hands, gazing into his eyes, unable to voice the rest of her sentence.
"Sophie, the baby..." The sorrow was evident on Nicholas Croft’s handsome face. His thin lips quivered as he painfully said, "is gone."
"Gone?" Sophie Foster repeated, tears already flowing down, yet she forced a smile and said, "Nicholas, you mean the baby was kidnapped by bad people, right? That’s okay, with today’s technology and all the electronic surveillance, if we report it to the police, we’ll definitely find her..."
"Sophie, listen to me!" Sophie Foster’s reaction was too abnormal. Nicholas Croft clutched her hands back, frowning and interrupting her, "The baby isn’t missing; she’s gone, had a car accident. We won’t be able to see her again."
"You’re lying!" Sophie Foster shouted, flinging away Nicholas Croft’s hands, shaking her head and retreating repeatedly, mumbling to herself as she did, "That’s impossible, the baby was fine when she went to kindergarten this morning, how could there be a car accident..."
Although Sophie Foster refused to accept it, the rampant tears on her face betrayed her.
