Mercenary's War
Chapter 2269 - 2245: The Person to Rescue
Before firing a shot, the enemy surrendered, the biggest feeling it gives is that it’s anticlimactic.
However, the enemy’s surrender is not bad news in any case, at most it’s boring, but certainly not bad news.
Gao Yang stopped in his tracks, then said on the walkie-talkie, "Are you sure that’s a white flag?"
Jansen was absolutely sure, "Of course it’s a white flag, it can only be a white flag. One guy is holding a gun, binding a white thing to the stock and waving it while walking slowly out. Do you need me to lower altitude for a closer look?"
"Lower the altitude, observe carefully."
Soon, Jansen said again, "It’s indeed a white flag. He’s walking toward you guys, you’ll see him soon, but the guy waving the white flag is walking very slowly, he looks scared."
Li Jinfang immediately said to Gao Yang, "I’ll go up and take a look."
"No, do you understand Italian?"
One sentence stopped Li Jinfang abruptly, without understanding the other’s language, there’s no point rushing up to negotiate.
Gao Yang immediately said, "Skunk, come to the front, everyone else prepare for cover, keep moving forward."
Gao Yang slowed his pace, raised his gun, and continued to advance. It wasn’t long before a person emerged through the castle’s gate, knelt down immediately upon seeing Gao Yang and the others, raised both hands, and lifted a rifle with a piece of white cloth tied to the stock high above.
Jansen said on the walkie-talkie, "Boss, there’s no one in the yard. I’ve lowered the altitude and observed through the windows, none of them are open, they really seem to want to surrender."
Gao Yang raised his hand, motioned for the people behind to stop, then pointed to Rafael, saying, "Let’s go up and take a look."
A few people quickly ran over, arriving ahead of the person wanting to surrender, then Gao Yang and the three others kneeled on one knee, guns ready, while Rafael shouted in Italian, "What do you want?"
A man in his thirties shouted, "I was chosen to negotiate with you, we wish to surrender, please, we are only trying to make a living, definitely don’t intend to fight to the end, please, give us a way out."
Rafael quickly translated the surrendering man’s words to Gao Yang, and the man kneeling with the gun carefully said in English, "I can speak English, that’s why they sent me out to surrender."
Gao Yang chuckled, "How many of you are there?"
"Sixty-two people. Listen, Sir, we’ve already heard the boss is dead, the boss’s son is dead as well, we’re only here for a decent pay, never thought to fight anyone desperately. Making a living isn’t about getting killed, right Sir? Help us out, let us leave. Oh, maybe this news will please you— the person you want to rescue isn’t dead, he’s fine."
Gao Yang was taken aback, "The person we need to rescue? Is it Cesare?"
"Ah, isn’t he the one you need to rescue? I don’t know his name, we’re just ordered to keep him guarded."
Gao Yang frowned, "You’re allowed to surrender. Let all your people come out, disarm and behave, no harm will come to you. You’re right, you’re just trying to make a living. Since you understand, why would we massacre you?"
The surrendering person immediately perked up, shouting, "Please hold on a moment, I’ll go back and tell everyone to come out. Uh, can you provide a guarantee?"
Gao Yang shouted, "I guarantee no harm will come to you."
"I mean, can you give us something substantive, like allowing us to leave from the other side after putting down our guns, is that possible?"
Gao Yang’s face darkened, "My patience isn’t great, get your people to surrender quickly. I said I won’t hurt you, and I mean it. Hurry up!"
The man kneeling on the ground immediately stood up, dropped the gun, turned around, and ran back.
Gao Yang said on the walkie-talkie, "Everyone follow up, stay alert, prevent any tricks from the enemy. Also, Justin, the surrendering representative said someone we need to rescue might be here, who could it be? Do you think it could be Cesare?"
Justin replied blankly, "I don’t know, but aside from Cesare, there’s no other possibility. Do you need me to come over and check?"
"Wait until it’s safe and then come over."
Gao Yang said offhandedly, waving his hand, as the four reached the gate, each finding cover and holding their guns at the ready.
Soon, the surrendering representative emerged again with hands raised, followed by more people coming out. These folks aren’t soldiers from a real battlefield, but their surrendering gesture is fairly standard.
Everyone walked to the courtyard, placed guns on the ground, pulled out their short guns and all weapons, and moved to the side, lying down with hands behind their heads. Soon enough, the large courtyard was covered with people.
Li Jinfang nodded to Gao Yang, "Sixty-two armed personnel, and fourteen unarmed, likely servants or the like."
Gao Yang nodded again, gestured again, and a dozen people entered the yard, carrying guns as they watched over the captives. Gao Yang shouted, "Clear the entire building; any resistance, kill."
Next, naturally, it was to clear out all the buildings, ensuring no one else was inside. Li Jinfang led people to clear the area, while Gao Yang asked the representative, "Where’s the person you mentioned?"
"In the basement, the door is open. We haven’t released him; we agreed you might prefer to handle this yourselves. Do you need me to lead you to find him?"
Gao Yang sighed, "No need, I know where it is, I’ve spent a considerable amount of time there."
Justin drove up without waiting for Li Jinfang’s group to search the entire structure. Arriving excitedly, he parked outside the door, "Such a crowd, is it Cesare?"
Gao Yang waved his hand, "He’s still inside; shouldn’t be any danger now. Let’s go, I’ll take you to find him."
The others continued guarding the prisoners while Gao Yang called Frey, escorting Justin into the basement, or interrogation room, where he was once held.
Gao Yang familiarly found the interrogation room quickly, gently pushed open the door, and saw a completely naked man cuffed to the iron chair Gao Yang once sat in.
Looking exhausted, the man slightly raised his head. Justin, quite moved, immediately said, "Cesare, I’m very glad you’re still alive, are you okay?"
Cesare looked at Gao Yang and the others, sighed, then weakly muttered, "Since you’re here, Mario’s dead, isn’t he?"
