Mercenary's War - Chapter 2211 - 2187: Woo Woo Woo
Gao Yang couldn’t be bothered to argue with Justin because he was facing a very real problem: he was out of bullets.
A sniper rifle is definitely not the first choice against aerial targets, so Gao Yang didn’t carry sniper rifle ammo on him. He was reloading bullets and adjusting his gun when the helicopters arrived. He had four full magazines for the HK417, and as for the AWM, he only had one five-round magazine, which was loaded after a test shot out of habit.
Therefore, Justin made a correct choice to take the AWM, but followed it with a wrong choice by almost emptying the magazine, leaving just one bullet for Gao Yang. This wasn’t really Justin’s fault because Gao Yang was the one who instructed him to fire.
Looking at the truck at the bottom of the slope, Gao Yang turned and ran downhill, shouting at Justin, "Follow me! We need to get some bullets!"
Justin stumbled and almost fell, panting as he turned to follow Gao Yang downhill, saying, "I should have worn trainers instead of cheap leather shoes, and the worst part is I’m wearing nylon socks!"
There were still five helicopters in the sky. As Gao Yang increased his speed running downhill, his ability to change directions decreased, and he had to watch out for stones and shrubs underfoot to avoid tripping while keeping an eye on Tarta’s position.
Tarta and Vasily were under attacks just as fierce as his, but Tarta’s rocket launcher made him a bigger threat to the helicopters, naturally drawing more attention.
Tarta and Vasily were fleeing desperately, and Gao Yang shouted, "Hold on! Hold on! I can force them down."
Whether Tarta and Vasily could hear him was unclear. As for Yarebin and Hammer, Gao Yang didn’t know where they had hidden as he scanned the area and couldn’t see them.
Gao Yang sprinted toward the cars, and as he neared them, he suddenly veered to the side, narrowly avoiding the burst of bullets from the helicopters that left a line of holes in the truck. The helicopter crew had spotted him approaching the vehicle and started to scatter gunfire.
Automatic rifles cannot maintain continuous fire, and spraying bullets is rarely accurate, but Gao Yang still didn’t dare approach the truck. Instead, he ran toward the sedan, circling the truck while looking at the sniper rifle bullet box he had left behind.
Fixing his eyes on the bullet box, Gao Yang gritted his teeth and charged forward, grabbed the bullet box, then twisted around and ran away again.
With a gun in one hand and a bullet box in the other, Gao Yang didn’t even have a chance to reload.
Justin was about ten meters away from Gao Yang, panting heavily and shouting, "What do we do next?"
Gao Yang replied loudly, "I need to load some bullets into the gun, shoot at them a few times, make them come down, and then we’ll have a chance."
Justin’s pace slowed, and he gasped, "Then hurry up and load the bullets!"
Gao Yang angrily retorted, "Do you think I have a free hand?"
Everything about using a sniper rifle is highly refined. The rifle has a specially designed carrying and storage case. The scope might be stored in the same case as the rifle, and the bullets definitely have specialized packaging. Unlike regular rifle or machine gun bullets, sniper rifle bullet containers are also exceptionally sophisticated, simply high-end and classy.
This high-end equipment has its drawbacks too, as it’s cumbersome to use.
The gun Gao Yang was using was .338 caliber, and each bullet cost tens of US Dollars. A large box containing a hundred rounds costs several thousand US Dollars. Given the high cost of the bullets, the box couldn’t be inferior either. Made from engineering plastic like a toolbox, the box has a handle and latch, it is pressure-resistant, collision-resistant, and airtight. Inside it has honeycomb pads of foam, each bullet is inserted one by one, ensuring they do not touch or damage each other, only being taken out for loading right before use, and all in the pursuit of high precision.
This bullet box preserves the bullets well, but using it is troublesome, quite troublesome.
"Keep heading up the mountain, follow me."
Gao Yang shouted, and Justin replied helplessly, "Then why did you make me come down?"
Ignoring Justin’s complaint, Gao Yang slung the sniper rifle’s strap over his neck. The long rifle bumped awkwardly as he ran, but Gao Yang seized the chance while running to open the bullet box and pluck out a few bullets with the primer facing up. He stuffed four bullets into his mouth, then threw the opened bullet box ahead toward Justin.
"Mm, mm mm, mm."
With bullets in his mouth, Gao Yang couldn’t speak, so he gestured toward the bullet box, hoping Justin would understand.
Justin bent down, picked up the bullet box, and shouted loudly, "Should I bring it along?"
"Mm mm!"
Gao Yang nodded, gave Justin a thumbs-up, then quickly removed the rifle from his neck, pulled the bolt, and inserted the bullet he held into the ejection port, before pushing the bolt forward to finally load a bullet. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
At this point, he simply didn’t have the time to load bullets into the magazine.
Once he loaded a bullet, Gao Yang abruptly halted, observed for a moment, sprinted a couple of steps, and then stopped again to swiftly raise his rifle, aiming at a side gunner on a helicopter.
He aimed briefly before firing, and as soon as he fired, he ran and kept moving while cycling the bolt, plucking a bullet from his mouth and inserting it into the ejection port again, then raised his rifle to the same target as before since he’d missed the first shot.
Pausing for just a moment, Gao Yang fired again, and this time, his shot hit, creating a hole in the person in the air.
"Mm! Mm!"
Gao Yang was very excited. He ran again, extracting a bullet from his mouth to reload, then shouted with muffled enthusiasm toward the slowing Justin.
Justin gasped, "Let them shoot me; I can’t run anymore. Up and down, up and down, I really can’t do this anymore."
Gao Yang suddenly rushed toward Justin and kicked him fiercely in the rear, then quickly stepped aside and took aim again at another helicopter gunner.
He fired, missed, fired again, missed, fired a third time, and finally hit. Five shots took down two airborne enemies. Incredibly impressive.
Gao Yang’s shooting caused alarm among the enemy in the air; they had an absolute advantage, yet hadn’t hit anyone, while Gao Yang, in an absolute disadvantage on the ground, had counterattacked, killing three of them. Finally, the helicopter crew couldn’t resist changing tactics.
Two helicopters suddenly dove down; they intended to do a close-range spray attack.
Just then, Tarta finally lifted the Rocket Launcher, and before the gunner on the helicopter overhead could hit him, he fired at a helicopter passing dozens of meters before him, managing to hit it with the Rocket Launcher.
