Chapter 296: Chapter 296 Absorb

Three hundred kilometers from New York, the Joker organization had established a backup headquarters on a secluded ranch.

Fifth level underground, in the base’s interrogation room.

Every associate who had been controlled by Loki was strapped into an interrogation chair, undergoing brainwashing therapy. As top-tier cadres of the organization holding vital positions, their absolute loyalty was mandatory. To put his own mind at ease, Jason had specifically summoned the organization’s experts in this field. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

These experts were responsible for their treatment on one hand, and conducting loyalty tests once the treatment concluded on the other. As long as the test results remained unsatisfactory, the associates could not leave this room.

"AAAAHHH!"

Frightening screams echoed continuously from the interrogation room. Outside the door, Jason paced back and forth anxiously. Those sounds felt like a blade twisting in his heart, but he could do nothing but wait patiently.

*

An hour passed, and the screams grew weaker. Fearing something had gone wrong, Jason rushed in to inquire.

Fortunately, it wasn’t bad news; the brainwashing therapy was simply entering its final stage. To break the control of the Mind Stone required immense willpower and deep-seated loyalty to the organization. Thanks to the system, the loyalty was impeccable. If not for the overwhelming power of the Mind Stone, they would never have betrayed the organization or Jason, even upon death.

Two hours later, all associates lived up to expectations and passed the loyalty tests perfectly. Overjoyed, Jason pushed the door open and walked in.

In the dim, sour-smelling room, the cadres slumped weakly in their chairs, drenched in sweat as if they had just climbed out of a river. As Jason entered, everyone immediately lowered their heads, unable to meet his gaze. Having betrayed the organization as its highest officers, they felt too ashamed to face him.

"Don’t overthink it. This wasn’t entirely your fault," Jason said, sitting beside Harley and patting her shoulder.

Harley felt even more mortified. The memories of being mind-controlled remained in her head; the harder she tried to forget, the clearer they became. Thinking of the things she had said and done to Jason, she wished she could find a hole to crawl into.

"Go take a shower; you’re covered in sweat." Seeing their pained and self-reproachful expressions, Jason couldn’t bring himself to utter a word of reprimand.

"Honey... I’m sorry," Harley whispered, her head still down.

Jason comforted her, "Let it go. The power of the Mind Stone isn’t something humans can resist."

Harley remained silent, seemingly unable to move past the trauma. Seeing this, Jason stood up and addressed them loudly.

"Look, this whole thing was Loki’s fault. It has little to do with you. I had already captured Loki and was ready to make him suffer, but Thor suddenly descended to Earth and rescued him. We have a major enemy before us; there is no time for you to remain depressed. If you truly feel guilty, then go shower, change, pull yourselves together, and prepare to face our new enemies!"

Hearing this, a spark of fire finally ignited in the eyes of the associates. Yes, the culprit was still out there roaming free; now was not the time for self-pity. If they wanted to atone to Jason, they had to take Loki’s head.

Satisfied with their fierce expressions, Jason finally nodded. Compared to sentimental words, revenge and the mission were far better at sparking their fighting spirit.

After resolving the issue, Jason returned to the conference room. He held the scepter, scrutinizing it carefully while listening to Chloe’s status report.

It had been over three hours since the great explosion in New York. Rescue teams from New York State and other regions had arrived and were in full swing. Preliminary estimates suggested casualties would not be less than 200,000, with astronomical property damage—the state government and insurance companies would likely be wiped out.

The explosion had already flooded the internet, with countless videos surfacing. It was currently the middle of the night in America, so most people were asleep, but in a few hours, the entire nation—and the world—would erupt.

Thinking of his skyrocketing reputation points on the system panel and the Mind Scepter in his hand, Jason smiled with satisfaction.

This move was worth it. After the report, the associates finished cleaning up and entered the conference room. Seeing Jason staring intently at the scepter, Harley, having regained her composure, leaned in and asked:

"Honey, besides controlling minds, what’s so special about this scepter?"

Jason looked up, puzzled. "What? Loki didn’t tell you?"

They shook their heads. Loki was tight-lipped; he hadn’t said a word about the scepter’s nature. Jason then explained the existence of the six Infinity Stones.

Predictably, everyone’s first reaction was a blank stare. These words had completely shattered their existing worldview.

Franklin, digesting the info, said with longing: "If the Boss can collect all six Infinity Stones, the Joker organization could run rampant across the entire universe."

"There are three on Earth! Let’s hurry and collect them so we can head into space," David, a sci-fi fan since childhood, said excitedly.

John interrupted their fantasies: "Try to walk before you run. Focus on the matters at hand; the universe is still far away."

Christine chimed in: "True. Don’t forget there’s also a Sorcerer Supreme on Earth. Jason, do you have any intel on her?"

Jason shook his head; even Loki knew little about the Sorcerer Supreme.

Harley said: "In that case, let’s set the Time Stone aside for now. Any news on the Tesseract?"

Jason shook his head again. "Chloe is searching, but no results yet." Thinking about it, he added resentfully: "Damn it, if Thor hadn’t interfered, I would have squeezed that info out of Loki."

The cadres’ expressions grew even more serious. One Loki had nearly dismantled them. Now there was a God of Thunder; life was clearly going to get harder.

However, fortunately, Jason held the Mind Stone—a massive trump card. If they could master its use, the organization’s combat power would change fundamentally. With the Time and Space stones missing, all eyes were on the Mind Stone.

Harley asked: "Honey, what are you thinking regarding the Mind Stone? Keep it in the scepter, or take it out for research?"

At this topic, Jason’s eyes lit up with a feverish intensity. He scanned the room and whispered:

"Actually, I have a very bold idea. I want to absorb the Mind Stone into my body."
