Chapter 289: Chapter 289 Fight

Energy flooded his body, and the crushing sensation of weakness vanished instantly.

Jason moved his limbs slightly, finding that he had only recovered less than ten percent of his total energy. He looked at Loki with a look of pure derision. "Hmph. In your hands, that scepter is a pearl cast before swine."

With those words, the energy he had just absorbed radiated outward, forming a faint blue mist that swirled around his frame. He didn’t have much, so he had to be frugal; he’d use raw physical combat to play with them.

"Let’s begin."

The next second, a bone-shattering ultrasonic wave swept toward him.

"David, your skill’s wind-up time is way too long."

Before the sentence was even finished, Jason had vanished, reappearing directly behind Christine.

BOOM!

A fist coated in raw energy punched forward, instantly piercing through her back. A blood-slicked right hand burst out from her chest.

"Take a rest, honey."

Christine didn’t even have time to react before her heart was punctured. She tried to counter, but a sharp pain lanced through her head, and she blacked out. In his energy-enhanced state, Jason’s speed was too high for the naked eye to track. He reached down, ripped the second-generation Arc Reactor from the chest of her armor, and casually tossed her aside.

Christine’s healing factor was Level 6; even unconscious, her body would begin self-repair. However, it would take time—time during which she was completely out of the fight.

An icy blast of frost lunged at him next, but Jason was already gone. The Iron Man suits’ targeting systems frantically tried to lock onto his position, and seconds later, the group banked their flight path to pursue him.

Loki gritted his teeth, realizing Jason was far more troublesome than he’d anticipated. When fully charged, his power could turn enemies into dust. When low on energy, his speed turned enemies into playthings. Having a man like this as an ally would make you feel invincible; but as an enemy, you’d be left gnashing your teeth, desperate to tear him apart but unable to find a single opening.

Loki began to spiral into self-doubt.

Jason accelerated away, still gripping the Arc Reactor. He channeled energy through his fingers to jumpstart the device, making it feed power directly into his system. The armored suits pushed their flight speed to the absolute limit, but the gap between them and Jason didn’t shrink. It didn’t feel like a chase; it felt like Jason was taking them for a walk.

After a few minutes, once they were well clear of New York’s borders, Jason came to a sudden halt. The Arc Reactor had been drained dry, and Jason was back up to fifty percent capacity. He tossed the dead reactor aside and balled his fists, facing the incoming threat head-on.

Let’s go.

Gargantuan energy surged from his body. Jason vanished again, moving several times faster than before.

BOOM!

A deafening impact echoed through the air as one of the armored suits plummeted toward the earth. Take out the horse to fell the rider. First priority: strip them of their mobility.

Poor Franklin; he didn’t see a thing before his armor was wrecked. The system’s warning didn’t even have time to beep. Jason knocked him unconscious with a practiced blow, wrapped a small protective energy shield around him, and dropped him. With Franklin out, his electrical control over the suits vanished.

"Chloe! Shut down the armor’s power!"

"Copy that, Sir!"

Instantly, the remaining suits lost power and began a terminal nose-dive toward the ground. They were currently three thousand meters up. Aside from Loki and the four remaining core members, none of them had flight capabilities. Except for Alex, whose superhuman physiology might let him survive, the rest would be turned into meat pies.

"I really have to do everything around here..." Jason shook his head helplessly.

He blurred through the air, wrapping a layer of protective energy around each of his four comrades. As for Loki? Heh. Let him rot.

BAM! BAM! BAM!

A series of heavy impacts followed as the suits shattered against the earth. Jason hovered in the air, watching the five of them crawl out of the wreckage and craters, looking battered and humiliated.

"Hah. You’re tougher than you look."

He expected his teammates to be fine, but he was surprised to see Loki survive a three-thousand-meter fall. Guess being Odin’s brat counts for something. In terms of pure physical durability, Loki far exceeded a normal human.

Descending to the ground, Jason gestured for them to come at him. "Let’s save some time. All of you, at once!"

Enraged by the blatant disrespect, the four core members didn’t dare hold back. Jason was back in his element. If they tried to play honor and go one-on-one, it might look cool for a second, but the ending would be miserable.

"GO!"

They shared a look and nodded. Facing Jason, a four-on-one wasn’t cowardice—it was common sense. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

"RAAAHH!" David struck first, a piercing ultrasonic wave washing over the field. Jason’s thought triggered a pale blue energy shield, blocking the sound with ease.

"All at once! Ranged attacks!" Someone shouted.

Loki raised the scepter, roaring as he fired an energy beam. John threw out his hands, a tide of frost erupting. Alex shifted into his Claw Form, slamming his hands into the dirt as a dozen jagged spikes erupted toward the shield.

A-Train: "..." Shit, I don’t have a ranged move. Does a handgun count?

The combined assault was massive and visually spectacular. However...

No matter the skill or the sorcery, you had to break the shield first. Jason stood perfectly still, letting them pour everything they had into him. A minute passed. The shield didn’t have a single scratch.

It’s over. We’ve lost. Loki’s face went pale, his hope dying. He began mechanically firing energy blasts like a broken toy. He knew there was one way to break that shield—his scepter—but with his mediocre combat skills, charging in was suicide.

"Enough. I’m bored."

Jason yawned. His silhouette vanished.

THUD!

A perfectly measured hand-chop caught David across the back of the neck. His eyes rolled back, and he slumped. David: Down.

BAM!

A punch slammed into John’s chest, sending him flying into a boulder. John Wick: Down.

CRASH!

A kick landed on Alex, nearly tearing his upper torso apart. Alex: Combat ineffective.

Just as Jason locked onto A-Train, the speedster vanished from sight. That guy is a bit of a headache. In terms of pure speed, A-Train was significantly faster than Jason. If he decided to run, he’d be hard to catch.

THUD!

Suddenly, something hit the shield. A-Train appeared a short distance away, clutching a shattered arm and kneeling in the dirt, howling in pain.

"Sigh... I told you, you can’t just touch the energy shield." Jason shook his head and reached toward him.

Fwoosh!

A spherical cage of energy wrapped around the A-Train. Jason clenched his fist, and the ball constricted, pinning the speedster firmly in place. A-Train: Combat ineffective.
