Magus Supremacy
Chapter 973: Invasion (8)
Chapter 973
Lilly did not relent.
Arrows were flying forward with unwavering consistency, carving through the air with lethal intent.
However, her supply was dwindling rapidly, and her quiver was becoming empty by the second.
After four more rapid-fire shots, she reached back only to find the leather casing void of ammunition.
"More!" she shouted, her voice cutting through the din of war.
Her fingers were already bruised and raw from the relentless strain of her long-range assault.
It was largely because of her tireless efforts that the enemies remained unable to close the distance to the main gate.
Before they could advance significantly, they would be neutralized by her marksmanship.
Her precision was top-notch, and her reloading skill was virtually unheard of among archers of her tier.
Within a mere heartbeat of letting a shaft fly, another arrow was already notched on the string before the previous one had even reached its apex.
She didn’t allow herself a moment of rest, taking deep, steadying breaths to maintain her focus.
After shouting her command, a shimmering Ki arrow began to manifest on her string as she kicked the empty quiver backward.
As the discarded bag fell, a fresh quiver brimming with arrows was hurled upward from below.
Simultaneously, she released the Ki arrow, which whistled forth with a velocity far more deadly than its mundane counterparts.
With that singular projectile, she pierced through two men at once before the energy dissipated.
The new quiver full of arrows landed by her feet as if it had always belonged there.
Down below, positioned close to the base of the wall where she stood, four women could be seen working in frantic coordination.
All around them were dozens of additional quivers, filled to the brim with sharpened shafts.
These women had volunteered themselves for this arduous labor.
Even before the Behemoth Clan had launched their assault, the news of the impending full-scale attack had spread across the continent.
These volunteers were the wives of men currently battling on the frontlines for the Dawn Faction.
Refusing to sit idle and simply anticipate the outcome of the slaughter, they had stepped forward to assist in any way possible.
That was how they had secured this vital role—the task of replenishing Lilly’s endless demand for ammunition.
They would take any chance, no matter how slim, to give their partners a better hope for survival.
The rumble and thunderous bangs from the battlefield rolled across the terrain, reaching the city behind them and causing those hiding in their homes to tremble.
They lived in hope that the enemy hadn’t breached the walls yet.
Lilly, however, was beginning to face a tactical dilemma.
The men approaching the gates, having witnessed dozens of their comrades fall to her precision, were now moving with greater intelligence.
Ki flooded their limbs as they advanced in a frantic zig-zag pattern.
Lilly’s arrows crashed into the parched earth, unable to find their marks as the soldiers evaded her line of sight.
More than two dozen men utilized this erratic movement, and her hit rate plummeted.
They were now just a minute away from the gates; if they passed a certain range, she would be unable to angle her shots to strike them down.
Leo glanced downward with a cold, calculative expression, recognizing the shift in the battle’s momentum.
"It’s time. Move out."
Gunther’s face cracked into a wide, devilish grin as he exploded forward from the wall with lightning speed.
His hands moved behind his back to seize his curved swords.
Landing just a few paces away from the charging men, he kicked up a dense cloud of dust that caused the infantry to hesitate for a momentary heartbeat.
That was their fatal error.
Gunther moved with blistering speed.
Being a stage seven warrior, he was vastly superior to these men in both velocity and power.
His twin blades flashed through the air with a sinister, silver glint, followed immediately by the neutralizing of two men in the front row.
Taking half a step backward, he watched as those who had been quick enough to regain their composure lashed forward with their various armaments.
The only thing their weapons struck was empty air.
Leaning backward with a knowing smile, Gunther made way for something that screamed through the atmosphere.
A projectile collided into the face of one of the men, sending his frame hurtling backward and scattering the others like a set of bowling pins.
In their previous positions, Sera could now be seen, gripping her sword tightly with a neutral, focused expression on her face.
The enemies regained their footing while more and more of them reinforced their numbers.
Soon, Gunther and Sera were surrounded by more than a hundred soldiers who encircled them from every direction.
"Ah... This will be fun," Gunther beamed as one of his swords began to hum eagerly with concentrated energy.
— AAAAAAAH!
The men charged forward with a deafening battle cry.
Unfazed, the duo took in deep breaths, their backs touching as they formed a two-person fortress.
Then,
BANG—!
They both exploded forward, though not in the same direction.
A spear jabbed toward Gunther’s face; with a clean, expert pivot, his curved blade tore through the air, disabling the man’s arm instantly.
Ducking below a swing aimed at his head, he swiftly flash-stepped forward, his sword ripping through his opponent’s defenses.
Lifting his blade behind his back, a loud, metallic clang echoed.
Gunther twirled around, successfully deflecting a sneaking blow directed at his neck.
Without missing a beat, he bashed his forehead into the man’s face, sending the enemy skidding backward with blood rolling down his nose.
Sera, meanwhile, was dancing between the hostiles.
Cold precision oozed from her blade.
CLANG—! CLANG—! CLANG—!
She was parrying multiple sword strikes like the seasoned swordswoman she was.
Deflecting a thrust aimed at her chest to the side, she delivered a swift, crushing blow to the man’s throat that left him gasping.
Bounding backward, she watched as a Ki fist crashed into her previous position, causing a deep crevice to splinter the ground.
Swinging her sword through the air in a blur, multiple Ki slashes fired out at lightning velocity.
They tore through the air, neutralizing the ranks of the charging soldiers.
Tilting her head to the side, she managed to dodge a punch just in time.
Before she could counter, she felt it behind her—a sudden, immense pressure!
Turning around briefly, she could see a vibrant yellow wave surrounding Gunther’s sword.
"Water Slash."
He uttered the technique calmly as he moved forward with insane speed.
With a wide, sweeping arc of his blade, a yellow torrent of pressurized water rushed forward, cleaving through a dozen men with terrifying ease.
All of this carnage was taking place just four meters away from the gates.
