Living Only For Myself: Make Those Who Hate Me Regret It
Chapter 336 - 335: The Young Mistress’s Requests Are Quite Troublesome
Zhou Mochen lowered his head and kissed the back of her hand. "None of that is important, Susu," he added. "Our family has many subsidiaries and investments in just about every industry. If you’re interested, I can teach you all about it later."
Xu Su raised an eyebrow. "Teach me to do what?"
"We’ll see which industry you’re interested in and let you try your hand at it." Zhou Mochen chuckled, unable to resist coaxing her. "Or if you want to stay in school forever, that’s fine too. Don’t feel any pressure. I just want you to be happy."
’I just want you to be happy...’
He had said the words with such tenderness, filled with endless affection. Xu Su’s heart clenched. Faced with such a gentle Zhou Mochen, she felt pathetic; she still hadn’t built up any resistance to him.
She was silent for a long time, forced to admit that compared to the man from her last life who had all but tied her to his side, she could hardly recognize the person in front of her now.
Shen Chen raised a hand to refill Xu Su’s teacup. "She’s still young," he said casually. "It’s not too late to think about this after she graduates from college."
Shen Chen wasn’t surprised by Zhou Mochen’s attitude—the way his words implied he wanted Xu Su to get involved in the family business, as if he couldn’t wait to tie them together for life.
His expression was unreadable as he lowered his gaze. "Just finish college first," he said lightly. "Have fun for a few years."
Xu Su gripped her teacup, slightly stunned by Shen Chen’s words.
’To be honest, this guy is really good to me. He’s completely looking out for my best interests.’
’He’s truly caring for me like a good brother!’
Xu Su was touched beyond words.
’I should be nicer to him, too.’ For once, Xu Su reflected on her own behavior. ’I’ve been pretty awful to him.’
After lunch, Zhou Mochen took a call and prepared to leave. But he seemed reluctant to part with Xu Su. He held her for a long time, murmuring softly, and asked if she was curious about his plans and wanted to tag along.
Xu Su pointed to the still-obvious mark on her neck and politely declined with a smile that didn’t reach her eyes.
Zhou Mochen rubbed his nose, clearly afraid she’d hold it against him later. He didn’t dare say more, just asked for a parting kiss and left by himself.
Shen Chen, acting as if it were too hot to go outside, wandered around the room aimlessly. After a few minutes, he grew bored, dug out the Super Mario game they had played yesterday, and pulled Xu Su down onto the sofa.
He shoved a controller into her hands. "Let’s keep playing. We’re not stopping until we beat yesterday’s record."
"..." Xu Su had originally planned to log on to *Immortal World* during her lunch break to meet up with her friends from the Qingxuan Sect’s elite group. But then she thought about Shen Chen’s "problem" at such a young age and figured he must be feeling pretty down. As a good friend, she had to consider his feelings.
So, she reluctantly sent a message in the group chat, telling everyone to start without her and that she would be online later.
She saw the quick replies from Liu Yun and the others, then locked her phone, gripped the controller, and started playing Super Mario with Shen Chen.
Maybe she wasn’t in the right headspace, or perhaps her coordination was just off, but Xu Su died three times in a row without breaking yesterday’s record.
Curled up on the sofa, she watched her character on the TV screen fall stiffly once again. Furious, she slammed the controller down, kicked the still-living player beside her, and ordered him about as if it were the most natural thing in the world. "I’ll play for you. Go get me a glass of water with ice and a preserved plum."
In the summer, Xu Su preferred iced water with a preserved plum in it over brewed plum soup.
"..." Hearing her command, Shen Chen didn’t even turn his head. He remained focused on the TV screen until he guided his character into a pipe to the next level. Only during the few seconds of loading time did he shove his own controller into her hand.
He stood up and grumbled, "Little Miss has some troublesome requests."
But despite his grumbling, he obediently went.
As Xu Su took control of the game character, she called out, "And that beef jerky I wanted! Go see if the auntie is done making it. If she is, bring it over."
Whoever this auntie was that Huang Chao had hired, the various meat jerkies she made were absolutely divine.
Xu Su loved to snack while gaming.
When Shen Chen returned with the items, he was greeted by the sight of a newly started game and the "Little Miss" lounging on the sofa.
"I worked so hard to get that far, and you die just a moment after taking over?"
He laughed in exasperation. "You couldn’t even wait for me to start a new game?"
"You know I suck. This round won’t last long before I die anyway, so just wait." Xu Su was very self-aware about her skills. "Let me play one round by myself."
"..." What else could Shen Chen say?
He sat down next to her and watched the game screen for a moment. The beginning was slow, not very difficult, and pretty boring. So, he simply picked up a strip of the beef jerky Xu Su had been craving and started eating it. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
’It actually tastes pretty good... but it’s so spicy...’
Remembering the girl’s love for all things spicy, Shen Chen picked up another strip and held it to her lips. "Open up."
The aroma wafted over, and Xu Su, sniffing the air, found it impossible to refuse. She opened her mouth and took it.
And so it went. One person patiently fed her, while the other ate bite after bite. Whenever the spice became too much, Shen Chen would perceptively offer the glass of water. "Have some water."
Xu Su took a huge gulp of the plum water through the straw...
By the time she finished her round, only half the plate of beef jerky was left.
Seeing Shen Chen’s fingers stained from the fresh beef jerky, Xu Su belatedly felt a little embarrassed. She quickly shook her head. "Don’t feed me anymore."
Shen Chen nodded slightly. Without a word, he popped the rejected piece of jerky into his own mouth and pulled out a tissue to wipe his hands clean.
’His temper is unbelievably good...’
Xu Su cupped the glass of plum water and took a sip. "When are you going back to Beijing?"
"What? Am I in your way again?" Shen Chen turned to look at her.
"Can you not be so sensitive? That’s not what I meant." Xu Su pouted. "I’m just asking."
Shen Chen nodded slightly, as if he believed her. "I’m going back tomorrow."
"So when are you coming to Beijing?" He had asked this just two days ago but couldn’t help asking again. He quickly added, "When you get to Beijing, don’t forget you promised to treat me to a meal."
Xu Su thought back to the casual offer she’d made last year when she asked him to let Li Tingting’s husband off the hook...
’Look at him. As if he’s really hurting for one meal.’
"...Don’t worry, I’ll definitely treat you." Though speechless, Xu Su still made a magnanimous offer. "I’ll treat you to ten meals!"
Shen Chen smiled. "That’s great. It’s a deal, then. You owe me ten meals. I’ll be in Beijing waiting for you to pay up."
"..." Xu Su choked, once again at a loss for words.
"Do you have any plans for summer break?" Shen Chen asked.
"I plan on getting my driver’s license and learning to drive. Nothing else for now."
"Brother Zhou hasn’t been back to Beijing in three years, so he’ll probably be busy." Shen Chen mused for a few seconds. "As it happens, I’m free. You can just hang out with me for the summer. I’ll teach you how to drive."
"You have the patience for that?" Xu Su looked up at him. "I’ve been watching a lot of videos online about learning to drive. The instructors are vicious when they yell at people. I’d rather just hire a private instructor. At least they’ll be nice."
