Before dawn, Lin Yu'an woke up from his warm sleeping bag.

Last night, the whistling sea wind was more intense than the previous nights, like a beast growling low outside the shelter.

But with the long firepit in front and the rock wall behind radiating heat, he slept relatively soundly.

He glanced at the faintly illuminated horizon in the east and then checked the time on the cameraβ€”6:15 AM.

"Good morning, everyone, a new day has begun." He breathed out a puff of white breath in front of his chest-mounted GoPro, his voice calm and powerful.

"Today's primary task remains the routine check. We must first confirm whether our 'passive food acquisition system' has yielded any results."

Lin Yu'an headed straight to the coniferous forest where he had set his traps.

Three consecutive days of emptiness didn't discourage him at all. In the wilderness, patience is a more important quality than strength.

Trapping is like buying lottery tickets; you must persist every day to possibly hit the jackpot.

He lightened his steps, moving silently like a ghost blending into the environment, and soon arrived at the first trap location.

From a distance, the "4-shaped" trigger mechanism made of three small wooden sticks stood intact, with the wire lasso quietly hanging, waiting for its prey.

"First one, empty." He calmly said to the camera and proceeded to the next target.

The second, still the same.

The third, equally silent.

As he approached the last trap, which he deemed the best-placed one, his steps suddenly stopped, and his eyes turned sharp as an eagle's!

He saw in the distance that the elastic birch branch, which served as the power source, was no longer bent downwards but had sprung up high and straight into the air!

And at the end of that branch, a white, fluffy object was gently swaying in the morning breeze.

"Caught one!"

A trace of uncontrollable joy finally appeared on Lin Yu'an's face!

He hurried forward, the joy of a hunter capturing prey coursing through him, making his blood flow faster.

It was a sizable adult snowshoe rabbit, its neck tightly snared by the wire lasso, its body already cold and stiff.

The powerful spring force had instantly lifted it off the ground, killing it painlessly in the shortest time possible and avoiding discovery by other ground predators.

He carefully untied the lasso, holding the heavy rabbit in his hand, feeling its thick fur and weight of at least four or five pounds.

He displayed his trophy to the camera: "A beautiful snowshoe rabbit, its fur is a great material in winter, and while its meat is lean, it's an excellent source of protein."

Just as he was about to reset the trap, a thought suddenly flashed through his mind.

"Wait, there's still one trap left unchecked."

He put down the rabbit and headed towards the spot not far away, where he had deliberately triggered the trap for testing, only simply resetting the trigger mechanism without changing its position.

When he reached the location, the sight stunned him, then an even bigger surge of joy filled his heart!

That trap had also been triggered!

Another birch branch had sprung high, and another white silhouette swayed in the air!

"My gosh! Two of them!"

Lin Yu'an couldn't help but exclaim softly, his face full of surprise and disbelief! He quickly approached to confirm the second catch.

This snowshoe rabbit was slightly smaller but still a healthy adult.

"It's either none or two at once!" He held up the two rabbits to the camera, showing a bright smile.

"That's the charm of trapping; you never know when a surprise will come! Now, the empty days before are all made up in one go!"

He wasn't blinded by the overwhelming joy, quickly restoring the two traps' trigger mechanisms and lassos meticulously to the best standby condition.

In the wilderness, good luck doesn't last forever. Only continuous work can maximize the probability of good fortune.

With these two weighty surprises, he didn't head straight back to the shelter.

"Processing the prey should never be done where you sleep." He explained professionally to the camera while walking.

"The smell of blood will attract predators with keen senses from this land, from the smallest weasels to the bears you'd least want to encounter."

"I need to find a dedicated processing area downwind and away from the camp."

Soon, he found an ideal spot on a flat patch by the stream, about a hundred meters downstream from the temporary shelter.

Here, it was convenient for washing, and the blood could flow downstream to the sea, minimizing any lingering scent.

He laid the two rabbits side by side on a clean rock, then pulled out the Damascus Hunting Knife gifted by Old George from his waist.

He first used the sharp tip of the knife to make a circular cut at the ankle of one of the rabbit's hind legs, then sliced along the inside of the leg up to the tail, treating the other leg the same way.

Next, he grabbed the fur at the cut and pulled down hard.

"Rippingβ€”β€”"

With a crisp sound, the entire rabbit pelt came off swiftly, like taking off a sweater, needing only slight work with the knife at the head and front paws.
