Chapter 2048: Chapter 2048: Death from Blood Loss

This night was very calm. The next day, right after the lights came on, the Girl in the painting immediately jumped out of the room and shook Xu Huo awake, asking him to take out her clothes since she wanted to change into new ones.

"When did I bring clothes for you?" Xu Huo asked.

"Packed together with your stuff." The Girl in the painting was referring to the suitcase Mr. Dong packed for him, though Mr. Dong didn’t specifically mention it.

Xu Huo took out the suitcase and, as expected, there were clothes inside.

She picked out a purple dress from inside, changed into it in the bathroom, and packed the original dress into a laundry bag and stuffed it into a corner of the suitcase, saying, "The clothes are fine, take them back to wash."

After finishing, she also pulled out a bag of snacks from under the clothes.

Xu Huo glanced casually, saying, "No wonder you needed three suitcases, they are all your things underneath."

Aside from food and clothing, there were even toys and bottles of unclear colors.

The Girl in the painting had a smug expression on her face, saying, "These are all things I like, must take them when traveling."

She immediately added, "You can’t lose them."

She was worried Xu Huo would find it troublesome, so she secretly discussed it with Mr. Dong.

Xu Huo was speechless, went to the transition carriage to wash his face, and when he came back, he found many players standing at the front car door, including the Girl in the painting who excitedly waved at him, then quickly typed on the communicator, "Two people are found dead hugging each other here!"

The two players in the bathroom died in an undignified manner. They probably came out at midnight seeking thrill; their clothes were almost completely off. The two maintained an embracing posture, lying on the ground just like that.

Clothing that barely covers or intimate behavior aren’t worth much attention; death itself isn’t dignified, many become fodder posthumously, players gathered here due to the bizarre cause of their death.

Both had tooth marks on their necks; the man’s face and lips were overly pale, seemingly dead from excessive blood loss, while the woman, although showing symptoms of blood loss, her skin was a bluish-gray, indicating prior poisoning before death.

Someone had already examined them, concluding most of their blood had been drained, the man indeed died from excessive blood loss, the woman poisoned. Aside from teeth marks and strangulation marks on their necks, there were no signs of struggle.

This suggests they might have been killed without knowing anything unusual.

On a train of the same level, being killed without resistance is rare but occasionally encountered. What surprised people was that their killer seemed to have targeted them specifically for their blood.

"Vampire!" the Girl in the painting contributed from her story reserve, "Movie vampires kill like this!"

The atmosphere became silent, until someone asked, "No one heard anything last night?"

The deceased were from Carriage Three; everyone knew they came out one by one, only after leaving the carriage door did the movements cease, easy to accomplish, but no third person left Carriage Three.

"No one left Carriage Four," spoke the female player from Xu Huo’s carriage, "We all can testify."

"Strange, no one left either carriage, could it be the crew passing through the corridor murdered them?" A bald player from Carriage Three said with displeasure, "Killing two advanced players at once, impressive Carriage Four."

The bodies were found in the transition carriage restroom between Carriage Three and Four; players generally aren’t allowed to pass through crew corridors. Both carriage players vouched for their own, seemingly leaving everyone without suspicion yet each carriage suspected the other.

"Use your brain," an oily-haired guy replied, "No one knows each other in these carriages, easily killing two advanced players, who wouldn’t fear becoming the next target, who would cover for them?"

"You can’t say for sure." The bald player affirmed, "I don’t believe anyone can completely evade detection and commit murder."

"Vampire, vampire!" The Girl in the painting reaffirmed her stance, "Did you see the tooth marks? Do any of you have such long teeth?"

Carriage Four players showed little interest in her theory; elsewhere, they might’ve called her foolish, but with Xu Huo present, they held back, knowing she’d been robbed yet got her things back within five minutes when Xu Huo intervened. When did advanced players become so accommodating? Unsurprisingly, due to having overwhelming strength.

Carriage Three was unaware, so the bald player impatiently commented, "Pig’s brain, where in the world are vampires? Have you seen people’s secondary evolution? Their teeth can grow long. Meat-eaters abound, blood drinkers should be rare."

The Girl in the painting didn’t think her idea was wrong, insisting, "What he used to be doesn’t matter, he’s a vampire now."

"You..." the bald player clenched his fists, clearly on the verge of rage, and Xu Huo aptly interrupted, "There is some truth in that."

Facing everyone’s gaze, he continued, "If a carriage is covering for a player for some reason, it’s rather straightforward to solve, just lock doors and all is well."

"But if a Player evolved similar vampire characteristics, it’s worth special caution."

Last night, Xu Huo didn’t notice how many from Carriage Three came out; a space artifact blocked his perception at the front door.

However, it’s certain no one from Carriage Four left.

He glanced towards the crew corridor.

"You don’t suspect the crew, do you?" A nearby female player noticed his subtle action, "Crew are constrained by game rules."

"Just a possibility," Xu Huo replied.

Then another player noticed the murdered woman’s mask had loosened; they stepped forward, pulling it off, revealing her true face.

"Whoa, she’s ugly!" The player who uncovered the mask was startled, "She tried to seduce me yesterday, offering potion directly—lucky to have resisted—and now, seeing her real face, I feel sick to my stomach!"

Clearly not only he was startled, two other players from Carriage Three turned away nauseated.

"She’s dead, show some respect," the female player from Carriage Four remarked.

"Fine, show respect, go arrange their burial." The one who removed the mask stepped aside.

The female player didn’t move, calmly replied, "Not my business."

"Why bother thinking too much?" A middle-parted guy from Carriage Three mentioned, "With just a day or two left on the train, caution is enough."

That’s everyone’s mindset, so no deeper inquiry occurred, leaving the bodies for the crew to handle.

"Would vampire players sleep upside down like movie vampires when we’re back in the carriage?" The Girl in the painting queried Xu Huo.

"Imitating teeth so precisely, maybe they do," Xu Huo pondered, "It’s possible they’ve evolved superb acrobatic techniques preventing head rushes."
