Isekai Adventure in the Dimensional Cube
Chapter 1701 - 1157: Dreams Like Bubbles (Part 2)
"A mere human, able to fight solo against an ancient deity incarnated as a curse to such an extent..."
The creature of the abyss standing against the wind spoke leisurely, with a sarcastic smile appearing on its face.
"It’s almost like a dream, don’t you think?"
Behind this person, a space turned transparent like a mirror and rippled like a water surface, revealing two similar figures.
It was Morgan and Altoria, who had arrived by piercing through space using [Mirror Fusion].
Morgan no longer wore the crown, yet still held the black spear, her gaze icy.
Altoria likewise held the chosen staff, looking at the wind-stood figure in front of her, her expression somewhat complex.
"Alberich Vortigern..."
Altoria quietly called out to the other with his name.
"Alberich Vortigern, that’s what you should call me, Altoria."
Alberon turned around, gazing at Altoria, his face filled with a half-smile.
"Looking at you, I gather you, like Reiger Brillhaut, have long suspected my identity, haven’t you?" Alberon spoke as if conceding to Altoria, "And here I thought I was well disguised, but it seems against the unreasonable [Fairy Eye], no matter how good the disguise, it’s impossible to keep it flawless."
"... I was merely suspicious." Altoria said in a deep voice, "Even when you made sure to speak the truth during times I was present, sometimes your truth ’sounded so false’."
Some words, even if not false, are not necessarily true either.
In situations where Altoria was present, Alberon often spoke in this ambiguous manner, not lying, but not telling the whole truth either.
Though Altoria didn’t catch Alberon lying, such ambiguous statements seemed quite unnatural to her, very sensitive to malice.
So, while unlike Reiger, who knew Alberon’s background from the start, over time Altoria still found some clues.
These were merely clues, however, giving Altoria some doubts, but not enough to make her outright suspect Alberon.
The real time when Altoria started doubting Alberon was when Reiger returned and decided to confess the secrets of Britain to everyone.
"Since then, you’ve been avoiding Reiger, avoiding me, not wanting to have much contact with us." Altoria stared at Alberon, saying, "Yet you kept watching Reiger from the shadows, watching me, as if wanting to know if he’d tell me something he shouldn’t."
Being extremely sensitive to malice and possessing the [Fairy Eye], Altoria could see these psychological changes in Alberon.
"Now it seems you indeed don’t truly want to help us, Alberon."
In the face of Altoria’s words, Alberon shook his head and retorted.
"No, I do want to help you." Alberon glanced at Morgan, who exuded a chilling murderous aura beside him, smirking, "At least, regarding the objective of defeating Morgan, we are aligned."
"To achieve that goal, how could I not sincerely assist you?"
"Without your help to defeat Morgan, or if you don’t help me defeat Morgan, it’ll be a headache for sure."
Alberon’s sneer deepened, to the point where it seemed almost self-mocking.
"Unexpectedly, a monster from beyond this world intervened in this war, leading to so many unexpected occurrences."
Morgan and Altoria did not question who exactly the "monster from beyond this world" mentioned by Alberon referred to.
There was no need.
If Alberon discovered it, how could they not have realized it too?
Though Reiger’s behavior was particularly mysterious, he was also exceedingly candid, showing no intent to hide, only deeming it unnecessary to clarify explicitly.
Under such circumstances, how could Altoria, as the Paradise Fairy born with the [Fairy Eye], the former Savior Ash, and current Savior, not have suspected something?
Perhaps they had long vaguely surmised that Reiger was not of this Lostbelt, nor of human history, but someone from another world.
Both the cunning strategist Morgan and seemingly unreliable but inwardly sensitive and complex Altoria had their own speculations about Reiger’s origins.
However, at this moment, that was no longer significant.
"Vortigern, the embodiment of Britain’s self-destructive desire, the manifest of a terminal device." Morgan said coldly, "Your very existence is the root cause of Britain’s current plight, and you must be eradicated."
Hearing this, Alberon laughed.
"Reiger Brillhaut told you everything, didn’t he? No wonder you’re here!"
Alberon was indeed correct.
In fact, Reiger had already told Morgan about Alberon’s situation.
No, saying ’early on’ would be incorrect, as Reiger told Morgan about this on the night before the battle began, just yesterday evening.
He did not want Morgan to be blindsided by a lurking darkness, so he gave her a heads-up.
Reiger himself hadn’t expected Morgan to take it seriously and had been using magic to scout for Alberon since last night.
She was too concerned with Britain; having learned of "Alberich Vortigern’s" existence through Reiger, there was no way she would overlook this schemer intent on Britain’s destruction.
Unfortunately, Morgan never found Alberon; this creature hid too well, and also disguised too effectively, even Reiger would struggle to find him if he deliberately hid.
It wasn’t until recently that Alberon launched an attack on the clan leaders of the Wind, Earth, and Wing Clans, bringing them to the great cavern here, showing a bit of his trail, allowing Morgan to track him down alongside Reiger.
Once she had found Alberon, locating him again became relatively easier for Morgan.
In terms of magical ability, Morgan surpassed Reiger; finding Alberon, who had been discovered once, was no challenge.
Alberon wasn’t surprised by this, yet he still wanted to jeer.
"Your Britain is doomed, Your Majesty, and at this moment you still want to deal with me?" Alberon said with extreme sarcasm, "Such a respectable Paradise Fairy becoming the custodian of this garbage dump, even now doing such a thing, is there truly no problem with your mind?"
"In essence, you’ve stated yourself, I’m the embodiment of Britain’s self-destructive desire, in other words, Britain itself wishes for destruction."
"And you still choose to deal with me? Even if the thought process of fairies doesn’t align with normalcy, among all, you’re the most incomprehensible one."
Alberon’s biting mockery plunged Morgan into silence.
After a long pause, Morgan finally spoke.
"This is the last thing I do for Britain."
Such words brought Alberon to a state of wanting to click his tongue.
Suddenly, Altoria spoke.
"You’re Merlin, aren’t you? Alberon?"
Hearing this, Alberon fell silent.
"I understand now."
Altoria took a deep breath, showing a resolute expression.
"Let’s settle this, Alberich Vortigern."
Altoria realized that this was her final battle in this world.
This time, it was not due to a mission, nor out of a desire to save something, but for herself.
Perceiving Altoria’s resolve, Alberon’s face showed a smile brimming with malice.
"Very well, let’s go then."
"Let me shatter your dreams that are like illusions."
