Invincible Snake Emperor
Chapter 302 - 298: A Disgraceful First Rank Demon Hunter
This was a showdown between Awakened Creatures, a duel between natural enemies on the food chain.
Normally, a cat dealing with a rat would be effortless, a matter of survival instinct. But this little white mouse was a Rank Two Spirit Monster, while Golden Pupils was only Level 19 and had not yet reached Rank Two.
Thus, there was a considerable gap in their strength.
With the might of a tiger and the bearing of a lion, Golden Pupils wore a ferocious expression. Its Yin Yang Eyes shone brightly as it stared at the little mouse, but it didn't make a rash move. It watched its prey hungrily, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
Facing the overwhelmingly powerful Golden Pupils, the little white mouse stood up on its hind legs and spoke in human tongue. "What an extraordinary feline bloodline. I, Lord Baozi, have eaten many cats, but I've never encountered one of such lineage. Truly exquisite!"
To see a tiny mouse act like this shattered Su Yu's worldview. Meanwhile, Yu Zitong's expression soured. He was a Demon Hunter—albeit a Basic one—and he knew a Rat Spirit capable of human speech was far beyond what a First Rank Demon Hunter like him could handle.
Besides, whenever he went out to hunt Demons, he relied entirely on his Golden Pupils.
If his Golden Pupils couldn't take down this Rat Spirit, he would be in deep trouble—not to mention there was still a Biological Controller to deal with.
He was also a little worried about his Golden Pupils. That cat was his treasure. If anything happened to it, his career with the Bai Family would be over.
"ROWR..."
Golden Pupils couldn't speak. It could only keep screeching at the little Rat Spirit. After a few cries, its fur bristled, and it pounced.
The cat and the rat went to war. One became a streak of golden light, the other a streak of white. They flickered back and forth across the construction site, locked in a desperate battle.
It was quite an interesting fight. Everyone's attention was now fixed on the clash between the cat and the rat.
Lin Fan was full of confidence. Although the cat was extraordinary, its Realm was too low. It hadn't even reached Rank Two. How could it possibly defeat his Rat Spirit?
The fact that it could even trade blows back and forth was already incredibly impressive.
"Master Yu, aren't you going to make a move?"
Tu Xiao'an suddenly asked, looking at him with a faint, knowing smile.
"Make a move on what?" Yu Zitong, who had been watching the show, was momentarily stunned.
Tu Xiao'an rolled his eyes. "Ultimately, that guy in the black robe is the root of the problem. If you take him out, won't this all be solved?"
Su Yu immediately looked at Yu Zitong. "Master Yu, the fate of my construction site rests entirely on you."
So far, this Demon Hunter hadn't seemed to do much of anything. The cat had handled everything. At most, he had picked up a sword and slashed a few rats, but he hadn't revealed any real abilities.
Seeing Tu Xiao'an stirring up trouble, Yu Zitong's face flushed red with anger. He trembled slightly as he pointed at Tu Xiao'an for kicking him while he was down. "What do you know? That man is a Biological Controller! Do you think he's that easy to deal with?"
"If he were easy to deal with, why would Boss Su have hired you? To be a cheerleader?" Tu Xiao'an clearly remembered how Master Yu had mocked and looked down on him earlier.
A Demon Hunter from the Bai Family meant nothing to Tu Xiao'an. He'd already taught two other members of the Bai Family a lesson.
He didn't mind teaching one more person from the Bai Family a long-lasting lesson.
Su Yu now looked at Yu Zitong with suspicion and doubt. "Master Yu, are you perhaps facing some difficulty? If you feel you can't handle the man in black, then I'll just have to cancel my order with the Bai Family. I can't pay for nothing."
It was a matter of taking money to solve a problem—just like the man in the black robe was doing.
'Look how professional the other guy is. And you're over here using a cat to fool everyone, not even lifting a finger yourself. Who do you think you're kidding?' 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
Yu Zitong felt his face burn with shame. The situation was now forcing his hand.
The truth was, while he was indeed a Demon Hunter, he was the lowest-ranking kind in the Bai Family. He had thought this was a small job—a rat infestation or something—and assumed it would be easy to handle. He had his Golden Pupils to solve everything.
He never expected to provoke a Biological Controller, let alone a Rank Two Rat Spirit. This was far beyond the scope of his professional abilities.
Yu Zitong's heart sank. The fight hadn't even started, yet the psychological pressure was already immense.
But regardless, Yu Zitong had to act. If he didn't, he would completely lose face.
Besides, he couldn't count on his Golden Pupils now either.
With a sullen expression, Yu Zitong picked up the longsword that had fallen to the ground and took a step toward the black-robed Lin Fan. "I will give you one last chance. Leave this construction site. If you continue to cause trouble, don't blame my sword for being merciless."
"Merciless?" Lin Fan gave Yu Zitong a strange look. "Are you really from the Bai Family?"
Yu Zitong snorted coldly. "Of course I am. If you're scared, then leave now."
Lin Fan let out a sinister laugh. "I'm not scared. I'm just curious why the person sent by the Bai Family is so weak. A mere First Rank Demon Hunter dares to come out and make a fool of himself?"
"Bastard! How dare you humiliate me! Take this!"
Yu Zitong flew into a rage. Even the meekest person has a breaking point. He lifted his longsword and swung it through the air a few times, creating a humming sound. Paired with his formal tunic, he actually managed to project an impressive aura.
"You don't know what's good for you." The black-robed man remained unflappable, smirking coldly. Seeing Yu Zitong charge at him with his sword, his face filled with contempt.
There was a loud BANG. Before anyone could see the flash of a blade, Yu Zitong was sent flying backward. He couldn't even react before he slammed into a rough, uneven rock wall.
The intense pain made Yu Zitong cough up a mouthful of blood.
'He's that strong?'
Gasping for breath, Yu Zitong's mind reeled. He knew he was most likely no match for his opponent, but he never imagined he would be defeated so effortlessly.
He had charged forward, but his opponent's figure became graceful and illusory, like a phantom. The next thing he knew, a sharp pain shot through his chest, and he was sent flying.
Looking at the black-robed man who hadn't even moved from his spot, he thought in despair, 'It's over. I've made a complete fool of myself.'
Without Golden Pupils, his combat prowess was practically nonexistent.
Yu Zitong couldn't help but feel a sense of despair. In this situation, he had completely tarnished the Bai Family's reputation.
With his own strength, he wasn't actually qualified to be a Demon Hunter for the Bai Family. The only reason he could enjoy the shade of that great tree was because he had a good pet.
Speaking of his pet, Golden Pupils, Yu Zitong had been quite lucky. His family had always kept cats.
One day, his female cat became pregnant—with the kitten of some unknown stray—and was waiting to give birth. At first, Yu Zitong didn't pay it much mind.
Slowly, the mother cat's belly grew larger. As time passed, three months went by, yet she still hadn't given birth. This finally caught Yu Zitong's attention.
Humans are said to have a ten-month gestation period, but felines usually give birth after two months. Yet, at the three-month mark, this mother cat showed no signs of labor at all.
Five months later, the mother cat's belly grew even larger, unnaturally so, but she still didn't give birth.
Yu Zitong found this highly unusual. He decided to wait and see just when his cat would finally have her kittens.
He waited for a full ten months before the mother cat finally went into labor.
He was astonished. 'A ten-month pregnancy? A cat was pregnant for ten months, just like a human.'
'This isn't scientific at all.'
