Chapter 64: Merit Golden Body Spiritual Body
The Transmission Hall.
The founding ancestor of the Qingfeng Sect hailed from a Daoist Sect and established a clear lineage. In addition to the Sect’s own inheritance, the Transmission Hall also housed Cultivation Techniques from various other sects, collected over generations.
As one of the Sect’s Five Halls, the Transmission Hall was staffed by one Hall Master, three Preaching Elders, and eight Stewards. Below them were countless lesser Stewards and Firework Daoists.
The first floor of the Transmission Hall alone held no fewer than ten thousand volumes, a collection as vast as the sea.
The books on the first floor were mainly miscellaneous texts and Qi Refining Stage Cultivation Techniques.
Bai Zichen had made inquiries before coming, so he went straight to the second floor.
The collection on the second floor was only about a tenth of the first floor’s, but its overall value was much higher.
For example, Cultivation Methods that didn’t lead directly to Core Formation weren’t even qualified to be included here.
All the books were divided into several major categories and arranged on rows of giant bookshelves.
Several Jade Scrolls were mixed in among them, clearly containing more precious information.
Bai Zichen stood before the shelves. After a brief look, he walked toward the largest set of bookshelves, the ones that held the Cultivation Techniques.
’The matter of my Spirit Body is too important. I can’t let anyone know about it yet. I can also take this opportunity to look into a future Main Cultivation Method. That should be a good cover.’
Commentary Collection of the True Monarch Shaoyang on the Daoist Classic Cantongqi.
On the Cultivation Technique bookshelf, placed in the most prominent position, was this Fundamental Great Method of the Qingfeng Sect.
The Sect had at least a handful of Cultivation Methods that led directly to Core Formation Perfection, but the Commentary Collection of the True Monarch Shaoyang on the Daoist Classic Cantongqi was the most central and important of them all.
The founding ancestor of the Qingfeng Sect had cultivated this very technique; the other Cultivation Techniques had been slowly gathered through various fortuitous encounters.
And True Monarch Shao Yang had been the founding ancestor’s own master, revered by the Qingfeng Sect as the Teaching Ancestor Master.
The volume placed here on the second floor was the first part of the Cultivation Technique.
Bai Zichen flipped open the title page. The book began with a passage of profound scripture that was completely baffling to read.
He could understand each word individually, but when strung together, they were as incomprehensible as a Celestial Book.
’No wonder they put it out so openly on the second floor of the Transmission Hall. Without commentaries and guidance from elders, an ordinary Cultivator would probably spend half their life just trying to grasp the basics of this Cultivation Technique.’
After a full incense stick of time, Bai Zichen finally looked up from the book and resignedly put it down.
’No wonder the Sect doesn’t encourage Qi Refining Disciples to practice the Daoist Classic Cantongqi. They’re supposed to wait until after Foundation Establishment to try and comprehend it. Even many Elders with a Foundation Establishment Cultivation haven’t been able to grasp much, and ended up practicing other Cultivation Techniques instead.’
Beside the Daoist Classic Cantongqi, there were more than ten other Cultivation Methods.
Each Cultivation Method was accompanied by dozens, even hundreds, of scrolls containing commentaries and insights—all notes left behind by the Qingfeng Sect’s predecessors.
Naturally, anything included in the Transmission Hall had been verified by later generations to be genuinely useful and profound.
’It’s laughable. I was actually considering switching to something like the Thick Earth Techniques or the Geng Metal Pure Yang Technique. How could an external Cultivation Technique be as reliable as one from my own Sect? Especially with so much accumulated wisdom from our predecessors to learn from. Besides, my priority right now is advancing my Realm. If I switched to a High-Tier Cultivation Technique that leads to Core Formation, I’d have to spend at least three to five years re-refining my Magical Power from the Late-Stage Qi Refining. It’s just not worth it.’
The Qi Refining Stage disciples who switched Cultivation Techniques were usually those with no hope of advancing further on the Great Dao. They would change to a technique that was better for Combat, with more potent Magical Power, just to give themselves a slight edge. Others had run into a dead end in their Cultivation, where their original technique stagnated, forcing them to find a new one.
Considering his current situation, and after consulting a few notes from his predecessors, Bai Zichen decided to steadfastly continue practicing the Chang Chun Skill until he reached Qi Refining Great Perfection.
’Switching my Cultivation Technique now would do more harm than good.’
He gave the Cultivation Techniques a cursory glance, then moved to an adjacent bookshelf about Magical Artifacts. He found the section on Flying Swords, picked up a scroll, and began to read it carefully.
’Just as I thought, the Qingfeng Sect has no formal Sword Cultivation Techniques. The highest level of knowledge we have is the legacy for refining Tier Two Flying Swords, and no one has successfully forged one in years... If I really want to make a Flying Sword my primary weapon, or even refine one into my Lifebound Magical Treasure, I’ll have to find a complete Sword Cultivator inheritance somewhere else.’
Bai Zichen wandered for a while longer before he finally found a mention of Sword Cultivation Sects in a miscellaneous book titled Liang Country’s Cultivation Sects’ Comment Record.
Sun Concealing Sword Sect: When they point their swords at the sun, its light is said to dim. Its disciples are mostly arrogant and unrestrained, with haughty, aloof personalities.
Their standards for accepting disciples are extremely strict; they only accept geniuses of the Sword Dao. The entire Sect numbers no more than a hundred people.
As a result, every disciple of the Sun Concealing Sword Sect possessed superb combat prowess. However, the Sect’s overall strength was not considered top-tier in Liang Country.
Intrigued, Bai Zichen flipped to the page about the Qingfeng Sect. It contained only a few meager sentences.
"Located in a secluded corner, with little interaction with other sects. The Sect has no cultivators of outstanding talent, but it is said to possess an orthodox Daoist Sect lineage, setting it apart from the other sects in Liang Country."
Bai Zichen scoffed at his Sect being looked down upon and tossed the book aside.
After winding his way through the shelves, he arrived at the section dedicated to Spiritual Roots and Spirit Bodies.
On this bookshelf, there were only a few scrolls, mainly discussing the miraculous nature of Celestial Spiritual Roots and the special characteristics of various Abnormal Spiritual Roots, and how to best utilize them.
Only the very last scroll recorded most of the known Spirit Bodies in the Cultivation Realm.
But for many of them, there was only a name, and any details about the Spirit Body’s specific mysteries were just the compiler’s personal speculation.
This was because it was very likely that such Spirit Bodies had never once appeared in the entire Liang Country.
Great Sun Flame Body: Cultivation speed is comparable to a Fire Element Celestial Spiritual Root, but it offers no assistance for Foundation Establishment or Core Formation; one must still break through on their own.
Naturally attuned to Fire Element Spiritual Power. All Fire Element Techniques cast will have their power increased by at least fifty percent.
During the Foundation Establishment Stage, one can master the Lotus Born from Fire Secret Technique, a life-saving ability used in desperate situations to cheat death.
Once one reaches Core Formation, they can refine True Sun Fire, which can incinerate all things and suppress all evil.
Because the Qingfeng Sect once had a Core Formation True Man who possessed the Great Sun Flame Body, its records on this particular Spirit Body were the most complete, written out at great length over thousands of words.
’Wood Spirit Body... Pure Yang Spirit Body... Vajra Spirit Body... Blood Talisman Spirit Body... There it is! The Merit Golden Body Spiritual Body!’
Bai Zichen flipped to the final two pages and finally saw the entry for the Merit Golden Body Spiritual Body. A storm of emotion surged within him.
He took a few deep breaths to calm himself before moving his gaze downward to read.
"Merit Golden Body Spiritual Body: Rarely seen in the Cultivation Realm. There are fewer than ten recorded cases, all of which appeared in the Buddha Country."
"Therefore, possessing a Merit Golden Body Spiritual Body is seen as a sign of a Buddha Son. Once discovered, they will be regarded as the chosen successor by a major Buddhist sect."
"This Spirit Body is not suited for combat and does not aid in cultivation speed. It has only one strength: turning a Celestial Chasm into a thoroughfare."
"All who possess this Spirit Body have a fifty percent increased chance of Foundation Establishment, a thirty percent increased chance of Core Formation, and a ten percent increased chance of reaching Nascent Soul!"
Bai Zichen finished reading the description of the Merit Golden Body Spiritual Body, his heart filled with ecstasy. It was a miraculous Spirit Body that could reduce the bottlenecks all the way to the Nascent Soul Realm.
’Even if the test results for my Spirit Body included the word "pseudo," let’s just assume it’s only seventy percent effective... That would still increase my probability of Foundation Establishment by thirty-five percent! That means if I attempt Foundation Establishment right now, my chances are the same as someone who has taken a Foundation Establishment Pill!’
A great weight lifted from Bai Zichen’s heart. He had been feeling his way forward in the dark. Even though his Cultivation had been smooth so far, he had been constantly anxious, plagued by a fear of the unknown.
Now that he had a basic understanding of his Spirit Body’s abilities, he finally felt a sense of certainty.
’But according to this description, if I try to break through to Foundation Establishment without a Foundation Establishment Pill, there’s still a significant chance of failure...’
After the initial joy, Bai Zichen calmed down and fell into deep thought.
