Chapter 67: [67] The Golden Betrayal, The Original Angels

The Ebon Citadel floated through the dark and churning currents of the Chaos Sea. It was surrounded by a massive reality enforcing sail woven from pure starlight.

The ship had taken a beating. The collision with the perfect geometric logic of the Architect had left the outer hull fractured in a dozen places. The physical laws of the ship groaned under the immense stress of the Primordial Chaos.

The Ark needed time to repair.

While Sylvia and Kaelith managed the core engines and Lyra monitored the deep space radar, Aurelia stepped onto the primary deployment deck. The former Valkyrie Commander wore her sleek dark Vanguard armor. Her six wings of pure Dark Radiance folded neatly behind her back.

She wasn’t going out to fight. She was going out to scavenge.

"Vanguard Squad Alpha, on me!" Aurelia commanded. Her voice was crisp and echoed with absolute military discipline. "We need raw Paradox shards to feed the auto repair protocols. We drop in, we mine the debris field, and we get back before the localized gravity shifts."

A dozen elite Vanguard soldiers clad in starlight forged armor saluted in perfect unison. "Yes, Commander!"

The airlocks hissed open, and Aurelia led her team out into the boundless shifting void.

The environment outside the Ark was a terrifying graveyard of shattered multiverses. Massive chunks of petrified God flesh and the pulverized remains of the Architect fleet floated endlessly. Aurelia moved with precision, directing her men to harvest the glowing jagged crystals of raw Paradox energy that clung to the debris.

It was tedious and dirty work. But it was necessary for the company.

Suddenly, the ambient temperature of the void spiked.

Aurelia froze and her golden eyes narrowed. She raised a fist to signal her squad to halt. Through the thick oppressive darkness of the Chaos Sea, a blinding pristine white light pierced the gloom.

It wasn’t the chaotic reality warping light of an anomaly. It felt warm. It felt righteous. It felt painfully familiar.

Tearing through the void was a fleet of immaculate pearl white galleons. Their sails were woven from pure solar plasma!

"Original Angels," Aurelia breathed. Her grip tightened on the shaft of her dark radiant spear.

These were not the corrupted and arrogant Celestial Nobles of the Apex Realm she used to serve. These were the true primordial beings of Light. They were the first creations of the universe, completely untouched by the greed of the lower realms.

From the bow of the lead galleon, a towering figure descended. He possessed twelve magnificent wings of blinding white feathers. His face was a portrait of absolute divine sorrow. The First Seraph.

"Aurelia," the voice of the Seraph echoed. It carried a soothing harmonic resonance that made the Vanguard soldiers behind her drop their weapons in awe. "Daughter of the Light. What has become of you?"

Aurelia didn’t lower her spear. "I am the Vanguard Commander of the Ebon Empire. State your business."

The ancient angel looked at her dark armor.

His eyes lingered on the six wings of corrupted abyssal Light radiating from her back. "You have been tainted," he said softly.

His voice dripped with pity. "You have bound your soul to a mortal demon. A glitch in the grand design. We felt the death of the Celestial Court. We felt the tearing of the Heavens."

The Seraph extended a glowing and flawless hand toward her. "Come back to the Light, Aurelia. The Prime Creator is merciful. Abandon this dark and chaotic path. Relinquish your ties to the anomaly, and I shall personally cleanse your soul of his filth. You can be pure again."

Deep within the command bridge of the Ebon Citadel, Arthur Sterling sat on his dark iron throne. His eyes were closed. His consciousness was linked directly to the massive holographic surveillance array. He was watching the entire exchange through the external cameras.

Arthur rested his chin on his knuckles. He looked at the flashing blue prompt. He could press a button and turn her into a mindless drone who was perfectly obedient and perfectly safe. That was exactly how the Celestial Emperor ran his business.

’I don’t build an empire of lobotomized slaves,’ Arthur thought and smirked. He waved his hand. "Dismiss."

He hired the best talent in the multiverse, and he expected them to do their jobs. He gave Aurelia total free will. He trusted his investment.

Out in the void, Aurelia stared at the outstretched hand of the Seraph.

For a fraction of a second, a crisis of faith washed over her. The Angels represented everything she had ever worshiped. They were the ultimate symbol of righteousness, of order, and of the divine beauty she had spent millennia trying to uphold. The Light was warm. It was safe.

But then she remembered the Blackwood ledgers. She remembered the trillions of mortals farmed and slaughtered like cattle just to keep that Light burning bright. She remembered the sterile oppressive golden cage of the Celestial Court.

And then she thought of Arthur.

The man who had ripped her wings off, only to give her the freedom to grow new ones!

The monster who didn’t hide his ruthlessness behind a veil of holy nonsense. He was a tyrant, yes. But he was honest. His dominance gave her true purpose. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

She wasn’t going to let herself get betrayed again.

Aurelia looked at the Seraph, and she felt absolutely nothing.

"The Light is just another cage," Aurelia whispered.

"What was that, child?" the Seraph asked as his brow furrowed.

"I said, your Light is a fvcking lie!" Aurelia roared.

"SHAAAAANK!"

She didn’t just reject the offer. She violently severed the concept of it!

Aurelia lunged forward. Her speed bypassed the physical laws of the void. Her golden spear was wreathed in the dark reality defying heat of the Primordial Flame of Arthur. It ignited with a terrifying beauty.

"SQUELCH!"

The eyes of the First Seraph bulged in absolute shock!

The dark radiant spear pierced directly through his flawless chestplate, shattering his divine core instantly!

"Treason!" the other Angels screamed. They drew their flaming swords and swarmed the former Valkyrie.

"Vanguard! Form a perimeter! Let none of these glowing pigeons touch the hull!" Aurelia commanded her squad.

She didn’t need their help for the heavy lifting. Aurelia became a blender of blinding gold and pitch black destruction. She danced through the vacuum. Her spear left streaks of dark fire that completely erased the holy magic of the Original Angels.

"CRACK!" "BOOM!"

She snapped wings. She severed limbs. She fought with a cold military precision that had been perfectly refined by the brutal sparring sessions of Arthur. The Angels relied on the conceptual weight of their purity. Aurelia relied on raw unadulterated combat efficiency.

Within three minutes, the void was littered with glowing white feathers and the bisected corpses of divine entities!

Aurelia ripped her spear out of the throat of the final Angel commander. The Seraph she had struck first was still barely clinging to life. He coughed up glowing white blood as he floated in the vacuum.

Aurelia grabbed him by the hair and hauled his face up to meet hers. "Why are you here? The Original Angels never leave the deep core."

"You... you cannot stop it," the Seraph choked out. A bloody smile appeared on his face. "We were the scouts. The Vanguard. We were rallying the Outer Gods. The Zenith Pantheon. The Devourers. A massive coalition is coming to lay siege to your pathetic Ark."

The Seraph spat blood onto her dark armor. "They are coming for the anomaly. They will tear your ship apart."

Aurelia narrowed her eyes. ’I knew it,’ she thought and casually twisted her wrist.

"CRUNCH!"

She snapped the ancient angel’s neck with a sharp sickening sound. She reached down and ripped a handful of pristine glowing feathers from his corpse to use as high tier crafting materials.

"Vanguard, grab the loot and fall back to the Ark," Aurelia ordered as she wiped the golden blood from her cheek.

Ten minutes later, the airlock doors on the command bridge hissed open. Aurelia stepped in. Her dark armor was completely soaked in the glowing blood of her former idols.

She walked directly up to the Ebon Throne and dropped the massive bundle of Seraph feathers at the feet of Arthur.

Sylvia, Morwenna, Lyra, and Kaelith looked at her. Their expressions were a mix of surprise and heavy respect.

Aurelia looked up to Authur with a dead expression. "They are coming, my Emperor. A massive coalition of Outer Gods and Angels. All of them. They are marching on the Citadel."

Arthur Sterling didn’t look worried at all. He picked up his glass of celestial whiskey and took a slow appreciative sip. A dark terrifyingly ambitious smile stretched across his face.

"Good," Arthur rumbled. His pitch black eyes glowed with anticipation.
