The cave entrance appeared in the cliff face without warning.

No door, no gate.

Just a vertical split in the rock, roughly two meters tall, sealed by a thin barrier that shimmered faintly like heat rising off summer stone.

The spiritual energy coming through it was dense enough that Damon felt it pressing against his skin before he even stepped close.

He stopped in front of it and breathed in slowly.

’That’s significantly different.’

Even standing outside, the concentration was already higher than anything in the disciple training halls. Inside would be another level entirely.

Selene pressed two fingers against the barrier and spoke a short sequence of words under her breath. The shimmer parted like water.

"The array inside is set to my cultivation signature," she said.

"I’m adding yours now. Place your hand on the left wall when you enter, push a thread of spiritual energy into the stone."

Damon stepped through.

The cave was not large. Maybe fifteen meters deep, roughly circular, with a flat floor that someone had smoothed deliberately.

A single cultivation mat sat at the center, worn thin from years of use.

The walls were embedded with spirit stones, dozens of them, arranged in a pattern that curved upward to the ceiling and connected in lines Damon recognized as a high-grade gathering array.

The air inside felt thick.

Not uncomfortable. Just dense, the way water feels different from air, like every breath was carrying more than it normally should.

He pressed his hand to the left wall and pushed a thread of energy through his palm.

The stone warmed briefly. Then the barrier behind him sealed again with a soft sound like ice forming over still water.

Selene stood just inside the entrance.

"How long has this cave been yours?"

"Twelve years."

He looked at the worn mat and said nothing.

She turned to leave, then paused with her back to him.

"Don’t come out until you’re ready," she said.

"Not for meals. Not because you’re bored. When you emerge, you should be unrecognizable from what you are now."

She stepped through the barrier and was gone.

Damon stood alone in the cave.

He listened to the silence for a moment, which wasn’t really silence at all.

The gathering array hummed at a frequency just below hearing, something you felt in the back of your teeth more than your ears.

The spirit stones in the walls glowed with a cold, steady light that had no flicker in it.

He sat on the mat, crossed his legs, and closed his eyes.
