Chapter 19: A stick

Ken made it out of the alley and rushed in the direction of his home. He had wasted a lot of time already, and he wanted to be sure that his family was safe first.

When he arrived there, he immediately noticed that a few of the attackers had surrounded his house and were trying to get in. Their laughs were loud, they had seen a woman and a girl rush into the house, and so they knew that there was someone inside. πšπ•£π•–πšŽπš πšŽπš‹πš—π¨π―π•–π•.π•”π¨π•ž

"Get the hell away from there!" A yell cut through the air. Ken looked over and saw that his eldest brother had come out to defend his home. He carried a hoe in his hands and had a wide stance.

"He will die," Ken muttered as he watched his brother. Regardless of the fact that he had easily taken down the attackers, they were still well-trained swordsmen, and some had some level of magic that they could use.

For someone like his brother, it was very impossible for him to take them on.

The five of them looked at him with wide grins.

"Haha, we have a hero here," one said. He stepped forward, swinging his hands casually as he walked. His sword was on the side of his waist, he was totally confident in the fact that he could handle this dude.

Ken wanted to attack and help his brother out, but just before he could move, he noticed something. The grip that his brother had on the hoe was not a random grip, it was a proper sword grip. His hands were tight and relaxed.

His brother also took a deep breath and then stepped forward fast, swinging from up down in a clean arc, so fast that the attacker was stunned and had no time to even back down.

"Ack," the attacker tried to retreat, but the hoe slammed into his jaw and knocked his head back. Blood flew from his mouth as he staggered backwards.

He managed to hold himself from falling, his eyes burned with an immense rage. He gripped his sword and pulled it, swinging wildly from the get-go because anger had clouded his perception.

Ken’s brother stepped in and weaved to the side, then he swung low and slammed into the guts of the attacker, knocking him back even more.

It seemed like he would be able to take him down, but that dream was stopped the next moment as a fireball hurled through the air and slammed into his chest, throwing him back fast. He hit the ground heavily and rolled for a few meters before coming to a stop.

He let out a deep groan of pain. Raising his head up, he looked at who had attacked, and it was one of the attackers who had activated their magical formation on their palm as well.

His brother then looked at the house. He could see a crack where his mother was looking at him, her eyes filled with tears and worry, she would burst out at any moment to save him.

He couldn’t allow that to happen, he had to ensure that he protected them, especially now that their father was not at home. He clutched the hoe again and rose to his feet, taking a deep breath and then holding it like a sword again.

"Look at you lot, coming at me five at one, pathetic," he cursed at them, not because he thought they would choose to then fight him one on one, but because he wanted to absolutely make sure that their focus was no longer at the house.

"Tch, that’s enough from you, brat, we will kill you and show your corpse to whoever is inside that place," the one that had attacked said.

"Let me at him already, I wanna cut him down," the attacker that he had hit with the hoe said, angry at the fact that he was humiliated by a nobody. All five of them were ready to take down Ken’s brother.

"Well, isn’t this a sight to behold," Ken’s voice reached them, clear and steady as he walked there with pretty bold steps. He had even thrown away the sword that was in his hands before and now only had a stick.

"This brat, he was the one that showed up against the boss," one of the attackers recognized him. He wanted to ask how the hell Ken was here if he had fought the boss, but before he could say another word, Ken appeared right in front of him, leaning forward like someone that had just sprinted and already swinging the stick in his hands right for the head.

The attacker watched as the stick slammed into his face, so hard that his flesh and skull caved, and then his body followed, spinning in the air before he hit the ground.

The scene stunned everyone, they all pulled their weapons fast to attack, but Ken had moved already, charging at the next one.

The attacker managed to attack, he swung left

All while with a smile on his face, Ken swung at his open back, it hit so hard that he bent the man backward before hurling him through the air, but Ken grabbed him before he could go far and proceeded to slam him into the ground.

An attacker rushed from behind,

With those three down, he turned around and faced the last two, the one his brother had attacked and the one that had used the spell.

They looked at Ken with mixed emotions, after all, they just witnessed him body their partners in seconds.
