I Really Didn't Mean to Make Money
Chapter 338: Wei Yan: President Chen, I Already Have a Car
“Good morning, President Chen!”
As soon as President Chen entered the room, all the employees in the conference room stood up in unison.
Chen Mo looked at the group of managers rising to their feet and gave them a warm smile. At this moment, each of these people represented a value of 800,000 yuan.
“Everyone, please have a seat.”
He gently pressed his hand down, signaling everyone to sit.
“Alright, the reason I called you all here today isn’t for anything complicated. I just want to talk about the company’s image.”
The company’s image?
Hearing President Chen’s words, many of the managers looked puzzled.
Did the Mingri Group really need to worry about its image? Anyone who knew anything about the group would only look on with envy.
Chen Mo saw their expressions but didn’t comment. He continued speaking.
“As managers of your respective companies, you naturally represent the face of the company. But I recently discovered that many of our managers don’t even have a company car. That’s not a good look for us.”
“So, after careful consideration, I’ve decided that each of you will be assigned a car.”
“However, I need to emphasize one point: the car must be valued at 800,000 yuan. It cannot exceed that amount, and it shouldn’t fall too far below it either.”
“Also, the car belongs to the company. You only have the right to use it. If you ever leave Mingri Group, the vehicle must be returned.”
“That’s all for today’s meeting. I’ll give you twenty minutes to decide on the car you want. Remember, the price can’t exceed 800,000, and it shouldn’t be too much lower either.”
As his voice fell, the conference room fell into complete silence.
All the managers stared wide-eyed. They had spent the whole time guessing what major announcement President Chen might have for them.
But they never expected it would be about assigning them cars.
This was just…
Everyone sank into thought. A thousand ideas swirled through their minds, but in the end, they all converged into one simple realization:
President Chen truly cared about them.
Even though he had clearly stated that if they ever left the company, the car would be reclaimed, who would willingly leave Mingri Group after receiving such generous treatment?
Everyone thought the same thing and quietly shook their heads. Unless someone was a complete fool, no one would want to leave Mingri Group.
…
Yao Beiguo and Tao Ze exchanged a glance. Then Yao Beiguo took a deep breath and looked up at President Chen sitting at the head of the table.
“President Chen, we only joined the company recently. Do we get cars too?”
Yao Beiguo asked for confirmation. He and Tao Ze had only been with Mingri Group for about a month. The idea that they would already be assigned cars was something he could hardly believe.
Chen Mo looked up at Yao Beiguo.
“Yes. As long as you’re a company manager, you’re entitled to this benefit. It has nothing to do with how long you’ve been with the company. These cars are for the managers of each company. If one day you’re no longer a manager, the car will be passed on to the next one.”
“Thank you, President Chen.”
Yao Beiguo expressed his gratitude and sat back down.
Not long after, Jiang Cheng raised his hand.
“President Chen, I’ve always worked at the clothing factory and live in the employee dormitory. I rarely go out, so I don’t really need a car.”
“Yeah, President Chen,” Fang Chang chimed in. “I take the subway to work every day. It’s very convenient.”
His home wasn’t far from Mingri Group. It only took about twenty minutes by subway, and with traffic, driving might actually take longer.
“President Chen, I don’t need a car either. I already have one. Getting another would just be wasteful,” Wei Yan added at the right moment.
He already had his own car. It wasn’t anything fancy, but it got him where he needed to go.
Chen Mo looked at the few who had spoken. His eyes lowered, and his chest rose and fell slightly.
These guys…
They just couldn’t sit still for even a moment.
I’m trying to spend a little money here, and you’re all making it difficult for me?
After a moment, he looked up at Wei Yan and the others, his gaze turning serious.
“Do you think this is up to you? Whether you want the car or not, this is about the company’s image. It’s our face. You don’t have to drive it, but you must have it. Understood?”
Hearing President Chen’s stern tone, everyone fell silent.
They quietly reflected, realizing their thinking had been too short-sighted. Just to save the company the cost of a car, they had almost compromised its image.
That really shouldn’t have happened.
Each of them silently reproached themselves and no longer brought up the idea of refusing the car.
Seeing this, Chen Mo finally felt a bit more at ease. But just as he was beginning to relax, another voice interrupted him.
He turned his head.
Song Xia had timidly raised her hand and spoke slowly.
“President Chen, I don’t have a driver’s license. Even if I’m assigned a car, I won’t be able to use it.”
“President Chen, same here. I don’t have a license either. Even if I get a car, I won’t be able to drive it,” another voice echoed.
Wu Yu quickly raised his hand as well. He had just been debating whether or not to bring this up, but before he could decide, Song Xia had already spoken.
He had just graduated from university and was a fresh graduate.
Back in school, he’d never thought about getting a driver’s license, and ever since starting work, he’d been constantly on the move with assignments, leaving him no time to take the test.
Chen Mo glanced at Song Xia, then at Wu Yu.
At first, he felt a flicker of irritation, but a sudden idea came to him, and his mood instantly calmed.
Looking at the two of them, he spoke in a calm tone.
“If you don’t have a license, then go get one. We’ll assign you a car first, and once you’ve passed the test, you can start driving it. No rush.”
As he said this, he sat up straighter and his expression grew more serious.
“Speaking of driver’s licenses, that reminds me—there are quite a few employees in our company who haven’t gotten theirs yet. And with how busy everyone is, they don’t really have the time to go take the test.”
“That’s not acceptable.”
“After all, if an urgent situation comes up and it requires someone to drive a long distance, but the person responsible can’t drive, wouldn’t that delay everything?”
“So starting today, we’re implementing a new policy. Everyone in the company, from janitors to managers—if you want to get a driver’s license, go ahead and do it.”
“The company will cover all the costs. And if your lessons fall during work hours, you’ll be paid while you train.”
Chen Mo laid out the idea slowly.
He felt this spontaneous plan was absolutely brilliant.
Paying for employees to get their licenses would cost the company money, sure. Mingri Group now had a large workforce, and if even 100 or 200 people decided to take the test, the total expense wouldn’t be small.
And if they trained during work hours, that would also impact productivity. It would indirectly slow down the company’s operations.
Some employees with less aptitude might even need to take the test eight or ten times, using up all their work hours on driving lessons. It was practically perfect.
Paid driving lessons.
A win-win situation.
