I Have a Task Log
Chapter 115: Unexpected Harvest
After Kase called out, the other adventurers ran over to help. They began salvaging usable parts from the three Scorpion-tailed Lions, while the Priests tended to the injured.
Colin, holding a still-lit Torch, walked toward the depths of the nest with a few others.
After rounding the previous corner, the cave more or less came to an end.
At the far end was a nest made of backpacks, branches, and scraps of cloth, looking like a giant bird’s nest. It was surprisingly clean here, with no droppings, bones, or shed Bone Spikes. These Scorpion-tailed Lions had some standards, it seemed.
"Let’s clear out this junk first."
With that, Colin started dragging the branches out of the nest.
After pulling out two branches, he noticed a few colored stones on the ground. Just as he was about to pick up these strange rocks and toss them aside, an adventurer standing nearby hurriedly shouted, "Don’t throw those away! Aren’t those Gemstones?"
"Gemstones? What Gemstones?"
Colin frowned and looked at the egg-sized green stone in his hand.
The stone was completely green and looked very cloudy, no different from a rock from a construction site splattered with green paint.
The adventurer who had shouted walked over and examined it closely, carefully wiping the dust off with his finger. Only then did Colin see some strange stripes on the stone.
The adventurer exclaimed in pleasant surprise, "Isn’t this Malachite?! A piece this big could sell for dozens of Gold Coins, no problem."
The mention of dozens of Gold Coins made Colin’s scalp tingle.
’If I ever accidentally lost dozens of Gold Coins, I’d probably want to chop my own hands off.’
’Then again, couldn’t these natural Gemstones look a little more obvious? How is anyone supposed to tell the difference when they look just like ordinary rocks?’
He then continued cleaning the Scorpion-tailed Lion nest with the others.
Most of the backpacks were filthy, likely belonging to victims of the Scorpion-tailed Lions’ attacks.
Most of the items inside were rotten or chewed up. Besides things like a Fire Scythe, a wooden bowl, and some Hemp Rope, the rest was basically worthless.
In the end, they only found a few dozen coins, most of which were Copper Coins and Silver Coins.
However, there were still many uncut Gemstones in the nest.
A careful count revealed four of them. According to the more knowledgeable adventurers, besides the Malachite from before, there was also a Yellow Crystal and two Blood Stones. These were probably what the Scorpion-tailed Lions used to decorate their nest.
To be honest, aside from the Crystal, Colin probably wouldn’t have noticed the other stones at all. ’Making money really is a skill in itself,’ he thought.
While this kind of raw Gemstone couldn’t fetch a high price of hundreds of Gold Coins, he heard that selling one for dozens of Gold Coins was certainly possible.
In addition to all that...
"There’s no mistake. These are Magic Items," Colin said, looking at the items laid out on the ground.
Among them were a sheatheless Giant Sword, a pair of blue, heavily patterned Cotton Wrist Guards, and a Short Bow.
"Three pieces of Magic Equipment? Are you sure?"
The adventurers standing nearby had expressions of disbelief.
"Without a doubt. These Scorpion-tailed Lions must have migrated from somewhere else, or they would have started attacking that village long ago," Colin said. "These items might have fallen into monster hands a long time ago."
It seemed that because of the Magic Net Knots on enchanted equipment, many monsters, especially Giant Dragons, liked to collect these items as decorations.
That said, for three pieces of Magic Equipment to appear at once was still quite astonishing.
If he weren’t concerned about his image, Colin figured he would have started snickering to himself long ago.
He’d heard from the low-level adventurers in taverns that you usually had to place an order in advance just to have a chance at buying Magic Items. It just went to show how rare they were. Otherwise, people like Donkexes wouldn’t be able to make so much money.
He took a closer look.
The Enchantments on the Great Sword and Short Bow both dealt an extra point of Damage on a successful hit. This kind of Enchantment was quite simple and unadorned, the type that was always useful. Its versatility was much greater than the Winter Wolf Necklace the Dwarf had given him.
The Cotton Cloth Wrist Guards were a bit special, though.
[Defense Wrist Guards / Ordinary Magical Items]
[Defense: 1]
[Protection Enchantment: +1 Defense when the user is not wearing any Armor or Shield.]
It seemed they were designed specifically for Casters, since most characters who fought monsters up close would need Armor. The single point of Defense from this item was far from enough to make up for that defensive gap.
"Well then, let’s call everyone over to take a look," Colin said, letting out a long breath. He could feel his fingers trembling.
A few adventurers immediately shouted toward the cave entrance, and the others quickly gathered around.
Colin explained the functions of the Magic Items to the group.
After he finished, the Mage looked at the items on the ground, then glanced at everyone present. "How should we divide these?"
The leader of another squad said, "My suggestion is one item per squad, and Colin’s squad can take an extra Gemstone Ore."
"I agree," Colin said.
’An extra dozens of Gold Coins is not a bad deal.’
The Mage let out a long sigh of relief. "In that case, Colin’s squad should pick first. After all, you all contributed the most this time."
Colin glanced back at his companions.
"Take the sword," Kase said. "I have the Ice Short Spear and a Longbow, and I also use a Shield. Red Face has to wear Armor, and she can’t use any of these weapons anyway."
Colin said, "That’s a bit blunt, don’t you think?"
"I think Mr. Kase is right," Orelia added weakly. "Except for the ’Red Face’ part..."
"Speaking of which, can’t you even bother to remember your teammates’ names?"
"Can’t be helped. Her name has too many syllables. I can’t remember it."
Since the Great Sword was the best choice for the squad, Colin didn’t hesitate. He stepped forward and picked up the Magic Greatsword.
[Elf Standard Giant Sword / Ordinary Magical Items]
[Damage: 4-14]
[Sharp: Deals an extra point of Damage on a successful hit.]
[Lightweight Giant Sword: Cannot be used properly by beings with less than twelve Power.]
After that, Colin paid no mind to how the other equipment was distributed, his excited heart focused solely on studying his new piece of Magic Equipment.
Judging from the name, this item must belong to the Elves.
The sword itself was a bit longer than his Hand Half Sword, and its blade was much wider and thicker. In terms of overall shape, it resembled the Scottish greatswords he had seen online in his previous life.
The blade was decorated with several faint green, grass-like patterns. The crossguard on both sides of the hilt slanted toward the blade, forming a sort of "V" shape. However, unlike a Scottish greatsword, the tips of the crossguard lacked the decorative iron rings and instead featured upward-curving barbs.
In addition, the blade was much heavier than his Hand Half Sword, and the hilt was also longer.
After giving it a few test swings, Colin found that it was basically impossible to use this weapon one-handed. He couldn’t swing it at all without using both hands.
’And this thing supposedly has a "Lightweight" Enchantment...’
’So how much Power does a normal Giant Sword require to be used properly? It can’t be more ridiculous than Kase’s Insect Shell Shield, can it?’
"Alright, little bro," Kase said from the side, covering his face. "Stop gawking at it. Once we’ve packed everything up, we’re heading back to collect our reward money."
"Mr. Colin really does love his weapons," Orelia said with a chuckle, covering her mouth.
