I can upgrade the shelter
Chapter 482 - 480: Transformation Completed
To be disassembled into parts for the upgrade are not the two nuclear-powered land cruisers, but rather the prototype not polluted by nuclear radiation.
In fact, this is also inevitable. Although system upgrades can deal with nuclear radiation, the system will not regard an integral thing as parts. It must be disassembled first.
Disassembling those two nuclear-powered land cruisers would inevitably lead to a large amount of internal nuclear radiation leakage, so they can’t be disassembled.
Since the nuclear-powered ones can’t be disassembled, naturally the prototype with no radiation has to be disassembled.
Although the 305mm twin turret, as the main part, couldn’t be disassembled without a large gantry crane, there are still small lifting devices in this base that can take apart other parts.
After a round of disassembly, what remains of the prototype is just the internal main structural frame and the 305mm twin turret that couldn’t be disassembled.
The remaining parts are sorted and stacked on the ground, becoming a pile of parts.
The accompanying staff, while puzzled about why Chen Xin disassembled the usable prototype, still carried out Chen Xin’s orders.
On one hand, it’s naturally the suppression of identity level from Chen Xin, which meant they had no choice but to execute the order. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
On the other hand, they felt disassembling one would facilitate understanding of the structural design of land cruisers, since looking at blueprints and disassembling actual objects are completely different experiences.
Some designs on a blueprint might not reveal why they’re designed that way, but only after disassembling the actual object can you clearly understand the rationale behind the design.
Therefore, everyone did not resist and straightforwardly disassembled the prototype land cruiser.
Upon completion of the disassembly, they had a thorough and deep understanding of this land cruiser.
One must admit, the design concept of this thing very much aligns with the consistent Suyian philosophy: as long as it’s functional. Many internal structural designs adhere to creating something usable and robust.
While it met functional and usage needs, many aspects indeed seemed rather inhumane and left room for improvement.
Of course, this is speaking from a current perspective.
If you revert the time back to the era when this thing was designed, being able to fabricate such a big machine with the technology of the time was already quite impressive.
As for whether it’s practical, for the Flame Country, inheriting the design philosophy of the Russians—first solving the issue of existence and then making step-by-step improvements has always been the equipment design concept and philosophy of the Flame Country, never doubting the Suyian priority of solving existence over elegance.
Once the staff had photographed and archived all parts and made records, Chen Xin used these parts as upgrade materials for the two land cruisers.
As green light swept across in Chen Xin’s sight, the two land cruisers equipped with giant cannons disappeared, replaced by two Mobile Bases that appeared squarer and more solid.
"This is..." The officer looked at the freshly produced Mobile Base, truly feeling shocked.
Chen Xin couldn’t be bothered with explaining the process seen by others during the upgrade, as the system always resolved issues for him, providing reasonable excuses each time. He saw no need to explain again.
He was already impatient to enter these two Mobile Bases to see if what he made was practical.
The appearance of these two Mobile Bases was inspired by the famous Rhode Island. The entire front of the Mobile Base features a giant sweeper for clearing paths, facilitating the movement of the Mobile Base.
But unlike Rhode Island, the entire Mobile Base is powered by six pairs of twelve tracks acting as its mechanism, like six tank chassis lined up beneath the Mobile Base.
As for the main support structure, Chen Xin still used the Suyian )( type design, only adding a garage in the middle of the )( type support beam, which carries an all-terrain transport vehicle and several small all-terrain vehicles.
There are a total of seven entrances to the Mobile Base, with two on each side under the chassis, located in two gaps between the three sections of track, making four in all.
The other two entrances are on the roof, part of the hangar, and the rear also counts as an entrance, though it’s the garage door.
Above the garage is the engine room. This floor not only contains the nuclear fusion reactor core as the power source but also houses the generator, transmission mechanism, and other major power equipment, forming the most critical part of the Mobile Base.
Given the need to observe roadway conditions while driving the Mobile Base, even the cockpit is placed on this floor.
The floor above it is the crew cabin.
The crew cabin section is relatively simpler, given the limited space; Chen Xin did not make it very large. Apart from cabins arranged on both sides of the vehicle, the middle is a relatively larger communal space offering multifunctions like a meeting room, living room, and dining room.
Bathrooms and kitchens are set up at the head and tail of the vehicle, respectively. The restroom is public, adjacent to the bathroom.
Living water is supplied by two massive cylindrical water tanks on the roof of the vehicle, while waste water is processed by a circulation system installed at the rear, recycling and purifying it for reuse.
As for the truly non-recyclable part, it’s suitably treated and then discharged.
Further above the crew cabin are the hangar and command center.
Here, Chen Xin referenced the design of aircraft carrier hangars and decks. The command center uses a similar design to a ship’s island, located on the right side of the entire Mobile Base, vertically spanning the crew cabin and engine room with an elevator for command transmission and personnel movement.
The hangar doesn’t have a huge space, at most holding six helicopters with folded rotors. The left side features a retractable landing deck, which can accommodate four helicopters taking off and landing simultaneously when unfolded.
The top portion actually serves as a landing deck, featuring an aircraft carrier-like lift responsible for raising and lowering aircraft.
The strength of the top landing deck meets aircraft carrier standard strength, able to be opened to deploy the whole hangar or, when closed, allows for vertical take-off and landing capable fighter jets to take off and land.
Additionally, Chen Xin designed space into the overall Mobile Base structure, allowing for the installation of a universal vertical missile launch silo on a warship at both the front and rear parts of the Mobile Base or foregoing the top-level vertical take-off deck, eliminating the opening function for direct missile deployment.
Of course, this design space is reserved for military modification purposes; Chen Xin did not install these on the two Mobile Bases, only mounting a 130mm cannon in front of the command center’s ship island on the top, solely for clearing obstacles.
