Having traversed the desolate border between Kazakhstan and Lucia, even before the disaster, Chen Xin and his team arrived at the train station on the Lucia border as planned.

However, as they had anticipated, they encountered the issue of switching tracks. Moreover, the so-called station had long been buried under snow. To complete the track switch, they not only had to clear the snow from two different gauge tracks but also dig out the crane used for switching, the warehouse with broad-gauge wheels, and the platform from under the snow.

Fortunately, for Chen Xin, this was not a problem. He instructed the soldiers accompanying him to help clear the two tracks and, after finding the broad-gauge wheels, had them temporarily set up a gate between the two tracks with an engineering vehicle.

Then Chen Xin had their train pass through the gate onto the broad-gauge track and upgraded their train with the broad-gauge wheels found by the soldiers.

With Chen Xin’s command to upgrade, the distance between the wheels of the train was widened to the appropriate gauge, quickly solving the track-switching problem without needing the soldiers to dig out the crane and spend hours hoisting the carriage onto the broad-gauge track.

After completing the track switch, they moved forward again.

However, the roads in Lucia after crossing the border were not as smooth as in Flame Country or Kazakhstan.

The entire Siberia was covered with thick snow, and combined with the damage caused by meteor impacts and post-disaster neglect, many tracks were damaged. Chen Xin and his team often had to repair sections as they went, expending considerable effort to traverse the endless snowfields and reach their destination.

This place lies deep within the Siberian forest, a typical no-man’s-land. Before the disaster, apart from a secret military railway leading to a secret military base deep within the forest, no other roads led here.

This was meant to prevent accidental intrusions and the discovery of Suyia’s secrets hidden here.

Before sealing this place, the Suyians built a small town to serve the military base’s soldiers and scientists. The town included a station, school, hospital, and a full range of facilities to ensure the soldiers and scientists living here could meet all their living needs.

However, with the military base sealed, the soldiers, scientists, and staff who once lived here have all been evacuated, leaving the town and the sealed military base together in the depths of this Siberian forest.

If it was before the disaster, the scenery here would have been quite beautiful.

With various town buildings distinctively in the Suyian style, the surrounding lush primal forest covered the rolling hills, and there was a beautiful small lake nearby.

Living here during the Cold War era, without the threat of war or the noise of big cities, life was extremely pleasant.

Of course, there might have been fewer entertainment activities, but that era itself had fewer entertainment options; living a simpler life wasn’t really a problem.

But now, everything here has been covered by thick snow, with almost no traces of human habitation visible.

"According to the information provided by the Lucia side, we should be at the train station, located on the west side of the town. The town center has an office building with an underground passage leading to the military base. We can access it through the underground passage connecting the train station to the office building," the officer explained to Chen Xin, pointing to the map labels in Russian provided by the Lucians.

Looking at the map, Chen Xin, unable to understand the Russian text, paid no further attention to the map and simply told the officer, "Since you’re in charge of the operation, you make the decisions. But be cautious; it’s hard to guarantee that no defensive measures were left behind when Suyia withdrew from such a sealed military base back in the day."

"Rest assured, we’ve brought specialized explosive disposal engineers this time; there won’t be any issues," the officer replied solemnly. This was a consideration he’d already made, so not only did he bring in explosive disposal engineers, but he also equipped them with heavy explosive disposal mechas specifically developed by the military.

When Chen Xin saw the two engineers appear in the explosive disposal mechas, he raised an eyebrow and asked in surprise, "Are these modified from the heavy mechas I designed?"

"Yes, after analyzing the heavy mechas designed by you, the military’s weapon experts developed several different models based on it. This explosive disposal type is one of them, although it’s still in the testing phase. It’s one of the hallmarks of Suyia’s architectural design from back in the day, with air raid shelters built underground.

In those days, this design was effective; in the event of an air raid, ground personnel could hide in bunkers and underground passages, effectively resisting the airstrike’s damage.

However, such designs seem to be a bit of a relic nowadays. After all, the depth of air raid shelters beneath most civilian buildings isn’t sufficient. Given modern bomb penetration, hiding in these old-style underground passages or bunkers could easily lead to being buried by collapsing earth layers.

Of course, the odds of civilian buildings getting hit by large bombs are low. If it’s just ordinary shelling or bombing, the above-ground buildings might be flattened, but people underground would still have a chance of surviving.

After the two heavy explosive disposal mechas entered the underground passage, they indeed found explosives left over from the Suyia era.

This is standard practice, after all, an important military base is sealed here, and it’s quite normal to leave some security measures in place at civilian facilities connected to the base to prevent unauthorized entry.

But these are relics from decades ago. Many of the setup methods and corresponding disarming techniques have long been known. With the help of the explosive disposal mechas, the two engineers quickly defused the explosives, allowing the other soldiers and staff to smoothly enter the underground passage.

After traversing the town through the underground passage, they walked a bit further and finally arrived at the mission’s destination, the secret military base sealed by Suyia for over half a century.
