I can travel to an Apocalyptic world using a cube
Chapter 8: Back to Apocalyptic World
Ronan returned to his apartment after a couple of hours carrying a medium sized bag. He plopped himself on the floor in his room and started to take out the things one by one from the bag.
The first thing and the primary stuff that he was going to sell in the apocalyptic world was bread loaves.
He had bought ten packets of them. Bread loaves were definitely not the best or the costliest thing that he could sell in the apocalyptic world. And this was what he exactly wanted. He did not want to draw a lot of attention selling things which looked and tasted more exquisite.
It was his hunch based on how things worked in his own world and he might be wrong about it but if he had to guess then breads were things which might draw the least amount of attention. Bread was one of those things which had been known to mankind for a very long time in different forms. And he was betting on this that in even the apocalyptic world, they would know about bread even if it was vastly different from his.
The second thing he took out was one dozen empty plastic water bottles. He was going to fill these bottles with tap water and bring them to the other world.
Elicia had described the taste of the water as pure and free of the rancid taste. And from her description, Ronan was hopeful that he would be able to find some customers for the water bottles too.
The last thing he took out was a roll of thin plastic sheet which was used to wrap food. The bread packets had a lot of information printed on them which included dates and place of manufacturing.
The people of the other world would not know about these places and this has had a chance to create doubts in their heads. And he was not willing to take that risk. He was going to take out the bread from their packets and wrap it up in plastic.
There were a few hours remaining for the clock to strike 10:00 PM and Ronan immediately started his work. He filled the bottles with water and then he began his work on the bread. He was dividing one packet of bread into two. And in the next half an hour he had twenty packets of bread lying in front of him.
Ronan spent the next few hours browsing through his phone. He would be lying if he said that he was not afraid. In fact, a lot of tension and anxiety was bubbling in his heart.
He did not know how everything would proceed or what would happen. He might have probably considered aborting the plan but the very feeling of the slight increased strength running through his body was holding him back. Not to mention, the allure of bringing unimaginable wealth from the other world. If he got success in his endeavor, his entire life would go through a massive change.
Lost in his thoughts he did not even realise when the clock struck 9:50 and the alarm he had set of that time snapped him out. He took a deep breath, drank water and prepared himself for his journey. The pile of the stuff which was to be brought to the other world had been arranged in the bag and it was placed next to him. He was touching them with his spare hand. He summoned the cube and looked at the flashing surface.

Ronan overcame his hesitation, pressed on the touch and vanished from his room along with all the stuff.
Much to his immense relief, when he reopened his eyes, he was standing at the exact same place from where he had returned to his own planet. A smile broke out on his face and he rushed towards the window and gazed outside at the wasteland.
The sun was shining brighter compared to the previous time he had seen it. But the hazy appearance surrounding the sun had still not vanished.
The land or better to say, the wasteland in front of him was as it had been. A mixture of dark maroon and black with no sight of any vegetation till as far as he could see. He also spotted a few abominations walking around mindlessly in the wasteland. But this time he saw something else. Humans.
Two men were crossing through the wasteland on a motorbike similar to Elicia’s. They were far away and he could not even see their faces. Both of them had rifles slinging on their shoulders and were dressed in what seemed to be a combat uniform.
He did not know why but Ronan instinctively ducked his head. He did not want to be seen by them. He gulped and took deep breaths to calm his emotions. He was not prepared for this. He had not expected that he could encounter other humans before he met Elicia.
He gathered a bit of courage and peeked once again. They had travelled far away and were about to vanish in the horizon. He breathed a sigh or relief and his body relaxed. He had to wait for two hours before Elicia would arrive.
The cube was charged to its full power in forty five minutes and this was giving him confidence. If anything were to happen, he would simply vanish away and return to his own world. It was tough to wait. He had nothing to do. No mobile to scroll in here.
’I should have brought a book,’ he thought inwardly as he counted every minute on the clock.
Ethan’s legs had grown tired and he had plopped himself on the dusty floor leaning against the wall. There were fifteen minutes still remaining for the clock of this world to tick at 12:00 PM when he heard the sound of footsteps ascending from the staircase.
His body stiffened and he prepared himself for the worse with his fingers one inch away from tapping TRAVEL on the cube.
But no. It was Elicia who ascended the stairs. With a thought, he sent the cube back to his hands.
