Chapter 268: Chapter 268: Encountering Undead Even When Hiding Out in the Elemental Tower

By participating in an important Magic deduction project for the Hall of Truth, Li Wei successfully obtained the privilege of avoiding military service.

According to Hobbes, the Vice Hall Master of the Hall of Truth had personally gone to explain the situation to the Elder.

Li Wei was very grateful for this.

"If I ever get the chance to meet the Vice Hall Master, I’ll be sure to thank him in person," Li Wei said.

Hobbes smiled. "You’ll get your chance. The Vice Hall Master is very busy right now, but he should have time to see you later."

"By the way, now that you’ve just joined the Sunshine project, don’t be in a rush. Take some time to get familiar with the specifics of the research first."

"The Sunshine project is very different from deducing Tiers One and Two Magic Models, but your deduction skills will still be a great help."

Li Wei nodded. "Okay, I understand."

The Sunshine project was one of the Hall of Truth’s most important research initiatives.

It seemed to involve a Forbidden Curse.

Li Wei didn’t know the specifics yet.

He had only just joined the research group and hadn’t had a chance to learn the details.

The people qualified to participate in the Sunshine project were all top scholars from the Hall of Truth.

In the presence of experts of that caliber, Hobbes’s own research group was nothing to speak of.

Li Wei had only been grudgingly allowed to join the Sunshine Research Group because of the astonishing aptitude he had shown for Magic deduction.

And he would only be responsible for deducing certain Magic Circuits.

The full scope of the Sunshine project was not disclosed to Li Wei.

But that was enough.

Li Wei had just been looking for an excuse to stay inside the Elemental Tower.

He didn’t much care whether he was truly participating in the Sunshine project’s research or not.

Hobbes led Li Wei to the entrance of the Sunshine Research Room.

"This is as far as I go. You’ll have to go in by yourself."

"Alright. Thank you."

Li Wei pushed open the massive doors and walked into the research room.

The research room was enormous, a world unto itself.

It was only when Li Wei felt the surrounding Magic Fluctuation that he realized the door opened into a Magic Hall.

’The Sunshine Research Room is truly worthy of its status as a top-tier research group,’ Li Wei thought. ’To think they use an entire Magic Hall as their base.’

After seeing what was inside, Li Wei understood why they needed a Magic Hall.

The thing they were studying was simply too large.

A colossal, multi-layered ring structure floated in the center of the Magic Hall.

Dozens of copper rings covered in silver patterns were nested together, forming an immense sphere.

Each layer of rings was in constant rotation.

At the sphere’s core was a white light so brilliant it was impossible to look at directly.

That was "Sunshine."

Li Wei’s arrival went unnoticed.

Everyone was completely absorbed in their own research and contemplation.

A middle-aged man in a white Magic Robe walked over, extending a hand. "Welcome to the Sunshine Research Group."

"My name is Fang Lide, and I’m the lead researcher for the Sunshine Research Group."

Li Wei shook his hand and introduced himself. "I’m Li Wei. I specialize in deducing Magic Models."

Fang Lide said, "I’ve reviewed your file. It’s truly rare for a newcomer to the Elemental Tower to get an opportunity to join the Sunshine Research Group."

"If I hadn’t seen some of the Magic you’ve deduced, I wouldn’t have approved your admission."

Hearing this, Li Wei looked a bit embarrassed.

Fang Lide clapped him on the shoulder. "Don’t worry. Since I chose you, it means I trust your abilities."

"You’ve just joined the Sunshine Research Group and aren’t familiar with anything here yet, so start by reading through the materials to understand our research."

"Yes, alright," Li Wei nodded.

Fang Lide led Li Wei to a room piled high with all sorts of documents.

He pulled out a bookshelf.

"After you finish reading these, you should have a clear understanding of what we’re trying to accomplish."

"Take your time. If there’s anything you don’t understand, feel free to ask me."

"There’s no rush. It would be considered fast if you’re ready to join the research within three months."

Hearing this, Li Wei looked at the bookshelf, and his eye began to twitch.

’What in the world is this Sunshine project?’

’There’s so much background research material alone.’

’It fills an entire bookshelf.’

And that didn’t even include the nearly ten years of research findings from the Sunshine Research Group.

Those findings were piled high on several adjacent bookshelves.

Li Wei asked curiously, "What exactly is Sunshine?"

Fang Lide replied, "It’s a phenomenon. You could also call it a form of Power."

"It’s not something I can explain in a few words. Read the books first. You’ll understand after you’ve read them."

Li Wei nodded. "Alright."

Fang Lide left the room, leaving Li Wei by himself.

Li Wei casually picked up a book and began to read.

*Origin of the Sun*

After spending all morning reading *Origin of the Sun*, Li Wei hadn’t found a single mention of anything related to Sunshine.

He glanced at the hundreds, if not thousands, of books on the shelves.

He put the book back.

’Easy does it, no need to rush,’ he thought. ’Fang Lide only expects me to be ready to join the research in three months.’

’There’s still plenty of time.’

Li Wei took the books from the shelves and began flipping through them rapidly.

He used this method to record the books’ contents in his dreamscape.

When Li Wei left the research room that evening, nothing inside had changed.

Li Wei returned to his manor.

In his dreamscape, he practiced his Cultivation of Magic. When he grew tired, he would read the background materials for the Sunshine project.

WHOOSH!

The Shadow Attendant appeared before Li Wei, its form now more solid and substantial.

Li Wei set down his book and looked up at the Shadow Attendant.

"Tier Three High Level?"

The Shadow Attendant nodded.

"Then let’s go hunt some more Nightmares."

Li Wei led the Shadow Attendant out of the safe house.

He wanted to raise the Shadow Attendant’s power, at least to Tier Four.

Otherwise, the Shadow Attendant wouldn’t be of much use.

As the enemies Li Wei faced grew increasingly powerful, the Shadow Attendant was often relegated to menial tasks, rarely able to provide support in battle.

Now that Diana was taking care of his daily needs, there were even fewer things for the Shadow Attendant to do.

Li Wei took the Shadow Attendant to hunt Nightmares in the dreamscape.

Just as they finished off a Nightmare and the Shadow Attendant was devouring its Nightmare Core, Li Wei heard the sound of hooves from the street outside. He wore a puzzled expression.

He opened the window and looked out.

A dark figure entered his vision, and Li Wei froze.

’A Nightmare? Or a Death Knight?’

A Death Knight was riding down the street.

For a moment, Li Wei couldn’t tell if the Death Knight before him was a Nightmare in disguise or the real thing.

The Death Knight spotted Li Wei and charged straight at him.

BOOM!

The house collapsed, but the Death Knight’s attack missed its mark.

The Death Knight emerged from the rubble and looked up.

Li Wei was hovering in mid-air.

He looked down at the Death Knight, confirming that it was indeed a genuine Death Knight.

It was not a Nightmare in disguise.

Li Wei found this extremely strange.

’Why would a Death Knight appear in the dreamscape?’

’Do Death Knights dream?’

CLOP, CLOP, CLOP!

The warhorse beneath the Death Knight leaped into the air.

The steed galloped on the air itself, leaving trails of blue flame in its wake as it charged straight for Li Wei.
