Goblin Dependency
Chapter 930 - 464: Twin Canyon (Part 2)
Honestly, the so-called "water ladder" is indeed spectacular.
Especially after nearly seven days of tedious sailing at sea, having grown weary of the vast ocean scenery around them.
A sudden encounter like this, with its magnificent scene of red and blue intertwining and clashing, left a deep impression on Xia Nan’s mind.
Beside him, though Hai Yin usually didn’t show much, giving off an air of being accustomed to life at sea,
his emotions stirred at the moment, enthusiastically introducing Xia Nan to the unique natural phenomenon of the region:
"Locals call the place where these two sea areas meet the ’Divine Boundary Line.’"
"Sometimes, when a storm water spout forms, due to the different environments on both sides, a peculiar two-color spiral spectacle is created."
"I once saw it myself—half was dark, rain-clouded, and the other half was red cumulus clouds—truly breathtaking."
"Rumor has it that some lucky sailors have even seen a rainbow stretching across the two sea areas, its colors are..."
Midway through his sentence, an excited shout came suddenly from the deck’s edge.
It was the Half orc, Alton, who was standing on the railing, still holding onto his fishing rod, yet his eyes were captivated by something else, excitedly calling out to Xia Nan beside him.
"Hey, Xia Nan, look! It’s a rainbow!"
Following his gaze,
before their eyes was a vibrant, distinct rainbow, its ends resting on each side of the seawater boundary.
It seemed to be affected by the Twin Ocean’s waters, for although its surface color change was evident, the overall hue was subtly reddish, a rare sight.
Hai Yin then closed his mouth, maintaining silence.
The Vengeance Blade continued its voyage.
Clearly experienced in navigating this sea, the Vengeance Blade did not rush into the brown-red inner sea. The mineral-rich, clay-heavy sea would damage the hull if sailed for long.
Having just survived an attack by the Saw-tooth Shark Fish Swarm, the Vengeance Blade had only undergone temporary repairs, necessitating extreme caution.
Meanwhile, they naturally kept their distance from the convection near the boundary to avoid affecting the ship’s balance and sailing efficiency.
Instead, they maintained a parallel position with the boundary line, continuing forward.
Soon, with the frantic preparations on the deck, the Vengeance Blade adventure fleet finally sighted their destination:
——Twin Canyon.
Right on the straight line dividing the Twin Ocean, amidst the clash of brown-red and azure, a gigantic island sprawled out.
Like a rock fallen from the sky and split, the island was similarly divided in two by the "Divine Boundary Line."
At this moment, the islanders’ legend that the Twin Ocean originated from a Divine war seemed strongly substantiated.
After all, Xia Nan found it hard to imagine what kind of geological movement could have formed such a bifurcated island.
And as a coincidence, its name "Canyon" seemed to derive from the vast fracture running perpendicular to the coastline across the island, perfectly aligned with the Twin Ocean’s boundary line.
As if an invisible blade had sliced the island along the "Divine Boundary Line."
Black cliffs rose high, casting deep shadows upon the sea, while the other side glowed golden under the sun, creating a stark contrast.
Hearing the commotion on the deck, Lorin stepped out from the cabin with a cigarette in his mouth, glanced at the distant Twin Canyon, then turned around to take the helm from the helmsman.
"Lower the sails!"
The twin warriors Rein commanded loudly.
The sails, previously puffed out by the sea breeze, gradually furled with the sailors’ chanting, the Vengeance Blade’s speed diminishing while its maneuverability drastically increased.
With a forceful turn of the helm to the north, Lorin sharply altered the previously parallel course with the boundary line, steering straight towards the seawater convection direction.
Surrounding the Twin Canyon are beaches, but approaching recklessly only leads to running aground.
The island’s dock is built deep within the canyon, requiring a journey along the boundary line to reach.
"Boom!"
The deck creaked under the assault of the waves, like being swallowed into a whirlpool. Those turbulent convections stretching for miles were not something a small wooden ship could withstand.
The Vengeance Blade violently rocked among the waves, pitching up and down.
If not for the still clear weather and the calm sea surface beyond the boundary line, Xia Nan might have thought they had ventured into another storm.
Fortunately, prior to Lorin taking the helm, the crew had already prepared, wrapping their waists with hemp ropes, securing themselves and the items inside the cabin, thus avoiding unnecessary damage.
As they moved forward, the once distant Twin Canyon gradually revealed its towering form before them.
On either side, the towering dark gray sea-rock walls were slick and covered with damp moss and lichen, occasionally traversed by thin streams akin to creeks cascading from the cliffs into the sea, emitting a cold sound;
The sun being subtly blocked, the air temperature plummeted, complemented by the shadow cast by the cliffs, imparting an inexplicable eerie feeling. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
The seawater remained two-toned, but after entering the canyon, the previously intense clashing convections were now masked by the waves stirred by the ship’s passage.
The previously exuberant deck atmosphere, kindled by the Twin Ocean’s appearance, cooled off, as the crew no longer discussed the spectacular scenery but whispered among themselves.
The adventurers appeared somewhat unusual.
Xia Nan and Alton were newcomers, unaware of the situation.
But individuals like Hai Yin or Sasha wore inexplicably serious expressions.
Each leaned on the railing deck edge, peering out; or directly arrived at the bow, gazing afar.
Noticing their gaze, Xia Nan looked towards it naturally.
All around the rock walls ahead, dozens of feet above the sea surface, the cliff faces were densely carved with caves and tunnels.
Layered together, they appeared like a giant stone-made beehive when viewed from the canyon floor upward.
Some entrances hung with rope and iron-bar ladders leading to protruding wooden platforms below, where fishing nets and clothes were seen drying;
Others had suspended pavilions built of lightweight and sturdy wood on the cliff faces, interconnected by simple yet practical corridors.
One could occasionally see bridges of rope and wood jutting out from caves, spanning the canyon, reaching to the other side.
Evidently, the islanders had developed their own culture and unique lifestyle here.
Xia Nan had always been intrigued by the folklore of such Otherworld places.
But now didn’t seem the time for his curiosity.
The numerous caves across the cliff walls exhibited very clear traces of human habitation.
Whether it was the clothes hanging out to dry or the luminous flames indicating human presence here recently.
Yet amidst the deck crew’s whispers, the sound of wind and waves, and the groaning ship, Xia Nan heard no human congregation cacophony as expected.
Only silence persisted.
And the slight scent of blood permeating the damp air, still detectable amid the canyon’s windy torrents, seemed to declare that something had indeed occurred here in the past.
"Everyone, stay alert!"
From the helm direction, Lorin’s low shout was clearly audible in that moment.
The whispers on deck abruptly ceased, the crew focused and tense, each gripping their weapons tightly.
With a flick of the spent cigarette into the sea, Lorin firmly manned the helm, his sharply defined chin rising slightly while gazing upwards.
His fiery red hair fluttered in the wind, and his brown-red eyes reflected a completely severed wooden bridge dangling from one end amidst the distant cliffs.
His expression stern.
