Global Survival: I Got the D-Rank Personnel Simulator
Chapter 550: Broken Corridor
"Landy, what are you trying to do by walking over here?! Execute the order!"
The Captain shouted loudly at the overseer.
The overseer did not answer. He approached the side of the prison transport vehicle and reached out to touch its door.
The clear, cold sensation told him it was just a normal prison transport vehicle; there was no cardboard at all.
Seeing the overseer turn around and raise his gun muzzle, Lin Ye sighed. He hadn't expected that piece of cardboard to be capable of switching instantly with a real object.
Now, no matter how much he explained, it would be useless. Compared to the words of a D-Class personnel, the other party would definitely be more willing to believe the result he had personally verified.
Just as Lin Ye was preparing to try and subdue that overseer, the other suddenly turned around and placed his hand on the Squad Leader's face.
There was only a hard, flat surface there.
A bizarre smile appeared on the Squad Leader's face. It stared at the overseer but did not speak again.
The prison transport vehicle started up on the cardboard and soon disappeared at the end of the road.
The wide highway was left with only Lin Ye and Landy. Landy reached out to touch the area ahead again; that piece of cardboard had already vanished.
"I didn't expect you to actually spot the problem. What should we do now?"
As a fragile D-Class personnel, Lin Ye wasn't planning to do anything too conspicuous.
"I just wanted to double-check. It was just a matter of turning around anyway... I don't know what to do now either."
Landy walked to the same 'layer' as Lin Ye. Gripping his rifle, he nervously observed their surroundings.
"The Captain inside that cardboard wants us to break it. I think it's best we explore this area without breaking the cardboard. I can walk in front."
Lin Ye took the initiative to say.
"...Be careful."
Landy did not refuse Lin Ye's suggestion. He pulled the Short Knife from his waist and handed it to Lin Ye for self-defense.
"I'll be careful."
Lin Ye took the Short Knife, then walked to the edge of the highway, feeling his way forward along the cardboard.
If he were alone here, he'd probably try sliding forward along the highway. But with a nervous overseer present, doing something like that would be a bit too startling.
Landy followed behind Lin Ye, keeping himself moving on the same plane. This ensured he wouldn't suddenly discover his companion beside him had turned into cardboard while walking.
Nothing dangerous appeared on the highway. Lin Ye remained cautiously observant of his surroundings the entire time while moving. After all, they weren't the only ones who had entered this area.
The Squad Leader and the other overseers were one thing, but those D-Class personnel were quite troublesome.
If others broke the cardboard, Lin Ye didn't know if it would affect their side.
"Huh, there seems to be a vehicle up ahead!"
Landy said, sounding somewhat encouraged.
Compared to moving along a completely empty highway, Landy preferred to see some change. He felt the Captain wouldn't abandon them.
"Mhm, but it's not a prison transport vehicle. It looks like a truck... This isn't good news."
If other people had entered this area, it would undoubtedly introduce many variables.
"...Let's go take a look. If we spot a problem, we retreat immediately."
Landy raised his rifle, aiming the muzzle at the distant truck.
"You're too tense."
Lin Ye quickly approached the truck. The area around it was deathly quiet. On the ground near the open driver's door, there was a patch of congealed dark red bloodstains.
Furthermore, on the cardboard opposite the door, there was a very obvious hole. The hole was just big enough for an adult to pass through.
"Retreat!"
Landy noticed the hole in the cardboard first and hurriedly backed away.
"The hole is already there. Where exactly can you retreat to? You can retreat, but please let me go check the situation."
Lin Ye turned his head and said to Landy.
"...Then let's go together."
Landy didn't want to run off alone. Staying in a place like this by oneself creates an illusion of being lost.
"Okay. But I want to check the truck first. There might be some supplies we need on it."
Lin Ye had no desire to fight enemies with just a Short Knife. He hoped to find a longer weapon.
"Fine. I'll keep watch here. Try to be quick."
Landy said nervously, watching the hole from behind the truck.
The truck's cargo compartment wasn't locked. Lin Ye opened it and found it filled with crates of food.
He used a plastic bag from the compartment to pack some food for later, then jumped out, carrying the bag as he approached the hole.
Inside the hole was a corridor. It looked like the hallway of some high-end hotel. The hole opened on the side wall of the corridor.
The corridor was extremely quiet, but there were dragging marks on the ground. Blood trails led to the door of one of the rooms.
Lin Ye glanced back at the truck's driver's cabin. The keys were inserted in the dashboard, with a trace of blood stuck to them.
"We could drive away from here. Maybe if we drive a bit further, we can get out."
Landy walked to Lin Ye's side. He had also noticed the keys on the dashboard.
"...I'm going in to take a look."
Lin Ye didn't think things would be that simple. Moreover, his goal was to solve the problem here, not to escape.
Seeing Lin Ye enter the hole, Landy hesitated for a moment but ultimately followed Lin Ye, entering the hotel corridor with him.
Both men lowered their footsteps. Lin Ye, gripping the Short Knife, silently approached the door indicated by the traces.
The room wasn't locked. Lin Ye slowly opened the door, peering inside through the crack.
It was a standard hotel room. A man covered in blood was tied up in the center of the room.
His attire looked very much like that of a truck driver.
Lin Ye quietly opened the door fully and entered the room. The man wasn't completely dead yet, but he was close.
Landy wanted to step forward to save him but was pulled back by Lin Ye.
"...This man has a problem. Why is he sitting motionless in the room? That rope couldn't possibly hold him. And with that much blood loss, he should have died long ago."
Lin Ye suddenly closed in on the man, plunged the Short Knife into his neck, and then retreated at his fastest speed.
After being attacked, the man suddenly began convulsing wildly as if having a seizure. A bloody, slender arm shot out from within his body.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
That arm came close to touching Lin Ye's back, but Landy timely fired, shooting through that ghastly pale palm.
Lin Ye pulled Landy and ran outside. But when they ran out of the room, the hole in the corridor was gone.
"We're finished! What do we do now?!"
Seeing their retreat vanish, Landy trembled all over with nervousness.
"Give me the pistol!"
Lin Ye pulled Landy over to the spot where the hole had been. Now, it had become a normal corridor wall.
