"Where did its head go?"

Lin Ye aimed his firearm at the swaying corpse. Although Xivia's shots were accurate, the submachine gun's firepower was limited; it shouldn't have been enough to completely blow the head off.

"I don't know. I didn't even notice when its head disappeared."

Xivia also raised her weapon. Considering these monsters might possess some strange abilities, she didn't fire immediately.

"I think I saw something... their heads being snatched away just now. But whatever it was moved too fast, I couldn't get a clear look..."

Mia had initially thought she was mistaken.

"Let me take a test shot first."

The headless corpses lying on the ground were all getting back up. Lin Ye fired a shot at the nearest one.

The bullet hit the headless corpse's left chest, but it only staggered back a step, not falling from the impact.

Lin Ye lit a Molotov cocktail and threw it onto the headless corpse. Flames quickly engulfed it.

Unlike its previous sluggish state, the headless corpse now thrashed violently in the fire, every muscle convulsing as if having a seizure.

A blood-red tumor covered in fine, elongated blood vessels suddenly tore through the flesh and shot out from within the headless corpse. It resembled a crawling insect whose body surface was covered in limbs, and it charged at Lin Ye, the closest target, with extreme speed.

Xivia's shot hit the rapidly moving tumor. The tumor's body was very fragile, exploding directly upon bullet impact.

"So it's these tumors controlling the corpses."

Knowing what was manipulating these corpses made Xivia feel much more at ease.

"But we're almost out of Molotov cocktails. How do we deal with the remaining corpses?"

Mia retreated near the police car. Although these headless corpses weren't fast, the tumors inside them moved extremely quickly. If they got close, even Xivia might not be able to dodge a tumor's sudden attack.

"Those tumors are probably controlling the corpses using the fine filaments on their bodies. By carefully observing the corpses' movements, we should be able to roughly locate the tumors."

Lin Ye fired several shots at a headless corpse approaching him. This time, the headless corpse fell to the ground and began convulsing continuously.

"Impressive, as expected of a regular doctor."

Xivia also tried spraying bullets at the approaching headless corpses. Regarding human anatomy, she wasn't as professional as Lin Ye, but her aim was accurate, and she could copy the areas he targeted.

However, the headless corpses soon found a countermeasure. When they were being shot at, they would suddenly convulse violently to dodge the incoming bullets.

"Those tumors can move inside the corpses! Observing which part of the corpse convulses reveals the tumor's location!"

Lin Ye quickly got the hang of it. The areas where the tumors were located became very obvious in his eyes.

Soon, the headless corpses were all eliminated by them once again.

"There are a lot of headless corpses approaching from all around!"

Mia, hiding near the police car, suddenly shouted.

"The numbers are getting high. Get in the car first!"

Lin Ye turned to look behind them. A large number of headless corpses were pouring out from every corner of the street. They weren't fast, but their presence was oppressive.

"They're everywhere around us. Where should we go?"

Xivia didn't think they could drive their way out. Those tumors were too fast. If they got close to the headless corpses, it would be hard to avoid the tumors' attacks.

"Head into that strange building. It only has one entrance. We can move the weapons from the car inside, then use the police car and their own corpses to block the entrance!"

Lin Ye got into the driver's seat, slammed the accelerator, and parked the police car right at the building's entrance.

There was a corridor several meters long between the building's entrance and its interior. They could use this corridor to deal with the headless corpses.

The three of them moved the weapons and equipment from the car into the building's interior. The interior structure was somewhat complex. The corridor connected to a hall. Several women were hiding in a corner of the hall. Seeing Lin Ye and the other two enter, they shrank back further in fear.

Lin Ye was making pre-battle preparations and didn't have time to pay them any mind.

He placed firearms and magazines in easily accessible positions and set up the riot shield at the junction between the corridor and the hall.

"...You don't need to worry. Those monsters won't enter this building."

A woman hiding in the corner suddenly spoke up.

"I bought a few pigeons, planning to make a barbecue feast over the weekend. From Monday to Friday, I fed them every day, so they started thinking I wouldn't eat them."

"Are roast pigeons tasty?"

Xivia also set up her submachine gun, waiting for the enemies to enter the building entrance.

Numerous footsteps echoed around the building. Over a dozen headless corpses surrounded the police car. They didn't cross over it. Instead, one of the headless corpses sat in the driver's seat, attempting to drive the police car away.

"Damn it! It can drive without a brain?! I couldn't even drive before!"

Lin Ye fired a shot, hitting the tumor inside the headless corpse.

Xivia also began shooting. The headless corpses near the entrance were quickly taken down.

More headless corpses surged forward. They pushed corpses to the entrance to use as meat shields, then moved the police car blocking the entrance to the side of the building.

Afterwards, those headless corpses pushed the corpses into the building entrance, using them to block bullets.

Lin Ye waited until they had advanced further before throwing a Molotov cocktail, igniting the approaching corpses.

Flames burned in the passageway. Like the monsters in the hospital, these headless corpses were highly flammable. Those near the entrance were quickly set ablaze.

A large number of tumors tore through their hosts' bodies and charged into the corridor. But in such a narrow terrain, they couldn't possibly break through the crossfire from two submachine guns.

After dealing with the tumors that entered the corridor, Lin Ye retreated further back. This building seemed to have a hidden ventilation system; he didn't experience any symptoms of oxygen deprivation.

"The intelligence level of these tumors is too high."

Xivia sensed something was off.

"Yeah, something must be controlling them from behind."

Lin Ye had also noticed this point, but for now, they could only hide and survive within this building. Leaving it would mean certain death outside.
