Genetic Engineer in a Tamer's World
Chapter 62: First Salvation
With a mental command, five drops of shimmering red blood oozing with divine power appeared in front of Kale, hovering in the air, through his control of mana.
But that control slipped instantly, as the jellyfish-like beast dragged away the five drops with an enormous mental force.
Kale received another mental backlash, though it seemed unintentional on the Jellyfish’s part.
Wiping the blood from his nose, Kale witnessed the Beast take in the five drops into itself, through opening its monstrous maw, which was hidden beneath the tentacles.
"Do what thou must and begone, human. If I perceive aught amiss after my slumber, I shall hunt thee down and slay thee."
The Beast dove back down into the seas, and Kale’s expression grew cold.
The scenery all around him changed: the shore, filled with gem-like eggs, remained, but the endless expanse of seas became an enormous lake with crystal waters. But the edges of that lake were clearly visible.
Kale asked the system just to be sure, "Am I still on the mental hex or any sort of external illusory influence?"
[Host is not under any external influence at this moment; the system will notify Host if any such influence is detected]
[The Ancient rank Beast has gone into hibernation, devouring the Dragon’s blood.]
Kale remained cautious and looked around, just to be sure. His instincts also said that he was likely out of danger.
Now to the part he had been waiting for all this time, clearing out a small area amid that shore filled with eggs, Kale placed exactly 15 eggs in that spot, but one amongst those nail-sized eggs had the most complete DNA in it.
Kale dashed towards the lake, bringing a bucket of the lake’s nourishing divine water, dropping it onto the small, dug-up spot where he had placed the eggs.
Instantly, there was a reaction; it was mostly due to this location’s special mud and the lake water, which seemed to trigger evolution and rapidly accelerate growth.
The 15 eggs started to quiver and move. At the same time, that nourishing water seems to be rapidly absorbed by the eggs.
And Kale dropped the lake water in that spot three more times, the system suddenly chimed,
[The Eggs are close to hatching, success rate approximately 90%+]
In that moment, Kale grinned and did a mental command, ’Shield this spot, isolate it completely, and pour one litre of the Dragon’s blood here.’
A shimmering isolation barrier appeared around Kale and the small cavity where the eggs lay; a litre of Dragon blood was dumped there by the system.
Red smoke sizzled the nail-sized eggs, drowning in that blood.
The trembling of the small eggs seemed to reach its peak, as if the hatchlings were fighting to break free from within.
Crack!!!
Crick!!!
Eventually, the tiny shells cracked, and 15 hatchling serpents emerged.
Kale’s heart seemed to tremble at that sight, as if his own children had been born, and that wasn’t much of a far-off statement, considering the sheer amount of inhumane effort he had put into it; after all, literally his life depended on it.
But none of the snakes looked at him; the first thing they did was to eat the shells of the very egg they had come out of, almost in a desperate manner.
Kale watched with fascinated eyes, almost like a child seeing a new toy for the first time, because, despite having created these creatures to survive, his fascination with them was also the purest.
As soon as these cute things finished eating the eggshells, something within them changed.
They looked at each other and hissed in complete hostility. Kale sighed. Just as he thought, this was supposed to happen from the start.
Because what he created was the DNA of a predator that stood even beyond the throne of the Dragons in terms of pure racial potential.
And because of that, there could only ever be one of such a beast; it was the absolute law of the jungle, at its finest, from the very moment of birth.
All 15 attacked each other in savage cruelty.
Their tails wrapped around one another in a tangled mess, their sharp, monstrous jaws biting onto another.
As the 15 fought each other in the tiny cavity filled with the Dragon’s blood, they were injured by each other’s fangs. It was the form of battle that was most primal, no matter how insignificant it looked from his perspective.
Just pure raw strength, willpower, and vicious grit.
Gradually, one by one, they began to die out. Every time one died, the body would be greedily and chaotically devoured by the others.
This continued for an unknown amount of time, during which Kale did not even blink and naturally did not interfere either, because, as he said, he could not play fair; only the strongest one would be worthy of living.
Yet, when only one of the last remained, Kale grinned.
Even though he did not interfere, his chosen pick was the one that last survived and devoured all the others; it was the single egg with the highest percentage of accurate DNA, more than 90%.
As soon as the last one finished killing the others, it started to devour the blood of the dragon where it had been fighting till now.
As the hatchling snake continued to devour the blood, its body started to change, and Kale’s eyes sparkled brightly.
He whispered as if afraid that his voice might disrupt the process, "It’s happening, the evolution to its true form that it was supposed to have."
The snake’s body started to change: from being half a fingernail, it grew longer, wider, and stronger.
Though not by much, as it became the size of a palm. On the slippery outer skin of the snake, green shimmering scales began to form on its outer shell.
Four lizard-like legs grew from its body, with tough, long nails.
The Beast hissed, but that gradually sounded more like a Draconic growl, its neck elongated. From its back wings manifested, almost akin to a dragon.
But the most shocking part came next—another head with a long neck manifested from the creature’s shoulder, and then another.
Now, what lay open under the reverent gaze of Kale was a three-headed hydra. But the Cursed Tamer’s joy did not last long, as sounds akin to a siren buzzed in his ears.
[Warning!!! Warning!!]
[Severe instability has been detected within the newborn Beast.]
[Chances of genetic breakdown are currently at 40% and increasing....]
Kale’s expression fell as the Beast suddenly writhed on the ground, all three of its heads screeching in pain in their own ways.
He hurriedly brought out more of the Dragon’s blood, pouring it onto the ground, and he also threw one small chunk of the flesh from the Dragon’s heart.
The newly evolved Beast immediately moved, despite its pain; it pounced on the nail-sized chunk of flesh from the Dragon’s heart, devouring it madly, and then drinking the dragon’s blood with even more fervour.
Only then did the three-headed newborn Hydra seem to stabilise, and the system panel flashed in front of him once more.
[The Beast has been stabilised.]
[But certain major defects have been detected within it.]
[The Beast has the absolute potential for all six elements but does not currently possess any affinity for those elements.]
[To develop its affinity for the elements, it needs to devour Beasts with such affinities.]
[Host must also feed the creature with intelligent Beasts for it to develop the dormant Artificing quality in its genes.]
[Currently, the Beast possesses incomparable Physical strength and Defence.]
[Incredible mental defence against mental attacks.]
[Incredible commanding and intimidation ability over other Beasts due to its racial superiority.]
[But these traits can further improve with each advancement of the Beast’s rank and by devouring other Beasts with these qualities.]
Kale read through the contents carefully and nodded to himself; considering his dogshit luck, it was already a miracle that things went so smoothly.
And since those lackings can be made up for, it was not a big deal,
But his attention gradually diverted to the three-headed green hydra, which was looking at him and hissing continuously, not in a threatening manner, but to call for his attention.
The Cursed Tamer’s heart pounded in excitement like never before.
THIS WAS THE MOMENT.
Finally, after countless hurdles, every second, he felt like he was always just one step away from death. He had finally reached this point.
His first salvation was here...
With trembling hands, Kale reached out. He slowly placed his palm in front of the Hydra, and the creature seemed to hesitate for a moment, with three of its heads showing three kinds of weird expressions.
Eventually, though, it walked onto his palms and fit perfectly on his hand. Slowly but surely, an ethereal flow of light surrounded the Hydra; the same glow of light also enshrouded Kale.
As a familiar notification flashed.
[INITIATE THE BEAST BONDING RITUAL TO TAME YOUR FIRST EVER BEAST?]
[YES / NO]
This time, Kale didn’t hesitate in the slightest and uttered confidently, "Yes..."
