Chapter 48: Enraged Master

After three grueling days of nonstop work, during which he did not once leave the experiment room and did not even sleep. He only survived on mental nourishment pills.

Kale was finally done with dissecting the said Beasts, each with a certain specialty; now there were four more drops of blood on the stone table.

Thankfully, he would not have to do as much work as he would have when trying to make a single gene sequence that represents affinity for all six elements, which was much harder.

Kale had the Dragons’ DNA on hand as a reference point for doing that. If not, it would have been a much harder task.

Though that part of the work was not finished.

As for these four drops of blood from these creatures, Kale would need to extract a sequence for the perfect body that would hold everything: strong domination traits to order around weaker beasts with ease, and a gene sequence for Mental attack capacity.

Essentially, these traits of specialization would work by manifesting an organ for each trait that would do the job.

Another two days passed, and constant failure had become a familiar company of his by now.

Eventually, the strands of all five gene sequences were ready. Now it was time to attempt the first fusion into a complete DNA of his Desired Creature.

A modified Dragon Gene sequence would serve as a foundation upon which the five created sequences would be implanted.

Kale moved his hands on the screen, guided by the Gene Lab’s instructions and his own knowledge, forming a somewhat acceptable shape. The instant he was done, he ordered, "Attempt creation of the simulation..."

The Cursed Tamer waited in nervous anticipation, his eyes tracking all the movements and actions done by the mechanical arms of the Gene Lab.

Noting where the flaws were showing and which parts were working smoothly.

[Simulation Rejected, 0% probability of successful assembly.]

Kale gritted his teeth; he expected it to be so, but a freaking 0% was truly too disheartening. Even if it had a 0.0001% chance, it would still indicate that things were working.

He wiped the blood from his nose; his body was too tired. His head was throbbing like a pulsing tumor. The weakness of having barely any lifespan was becoming increasingly prevalent.

It seemed like he would indeed have to sleep for a few hours at least, and he would also have to ask his master if he had gathered the Tyrant rank materials.

As he finally opened the door to his experimental chamber for the first time in five whole days, the sun’s bright light hit his face with blinding brilliance; he was forced to close his eyes, like a nocturnal animal suddenly struck by the sun. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

With trembling steps, pale complexion, and dark circles under his eyes, Kale entered his room. But he was shocked into silence; his master was sitting there, sipping tea and reading a book, as sunlight graced his figure.

Kale cursed, "Damn it, why are you always in my room without permission...?"

Lazek gave his disciple a dubious look, "You didn’t come out from the experiment room for five whole days? Did you perhaps want me to barge in there?"

But before Kale could respond, Lazek’s expression turned grave as he noticed the horrifying condition that Kale was in; the man immediately stood up and grabbed his shoulder. Sensing his internal state.

His face darkened as he looked at Kale. "What the hell is wrong with you? Why is your life force so weak, to nothing? You’re like an old man on a deathbed; you won’t live more than 20 days at most...."

"No, in 15 days max you will be paralyzed permanently," stated Lazek with a twisted countenance.

Kale opened his mouth to say something, but his sharp master deduced the truth of the matter in a matter of seconds as he said, "The curse? It has a time limit, or maybe every time you try methods to break free from it, it will sap away your life force, am I right?"

Kale sighed in a defeated tone; there was no point in hiding that fact now. "Yes... both you could say."

There was a piercing glare in Lazek’s eyes as the man said, "Why didn’t you say it? Why didn’t you ask for my help?"

Kale did not avoid his master’s piercing gaze, looking back at him unfazed.

Seeing that Lazek laughed, "So, you are that much wary of me? I know you have your secrets, Kale, and I am not interested in them, but what’s the point of being so cautious if you end up dead without being able to do anything?"

Kale frowned, but before he could do anything, his master appeared right behind him and chopped at the back of his head with a swift movement of his hand.

Kale’s face twisted as his vision went dark. Maybe he would have been able to resist for a few seconds if he were in optimal condition, but in his current state, the Cursed Tamer was as weak as a fly.

Lazek laid Kale’s tired body on the bed; he drew out a communication artifact and poured his energy into it as it began to glow with a pulsing light.

Two voices came out of the artifact, "Junior brother? Why are you using the communication artifact? Aren’t you still in the Association?"

The 2nd voice spoke, "What the hell, Lazek? Do you know how busy I am? This better be important, or I will beat you up."

Lazek said in a serious tone, "Senior brother Oram and Kraul, I need both of you to come to the Apprentice dorm right now..."

Oram said from the other side questioningly, "What’s the matter?"

"What nonsense are you on about?" Kraul growled.

Lazek stated, "My disciple is close to dying...."

The instant he said that, the connection with his artifact and two other points was instantly broken; within just a minute, the two famed Grandmasters appeared right on the balcony of Kale’s room, following Lazek’s energy signature.

Oram examined Kale’s body with a grave look; the cursed mark on Kale’s forehead had become even darker and more prominent. It didn’t take a genius to guess the reason behind Kale’s wretched state. He whispered, "So, that’s the type of curse it was, the worst kind."

Meanwhile, Kraul was shocked; his ruffian-like attitude was nowhere to be seen. "He was nothing like this at the time of the test, and now his state is like this, even after becoming an Apprentice Artificer?"

"Fucking Dragon Church..." the man cursed with genuine anger.

But he was not the only one feeling that anger; even Oram’s face was cold.

As for Lazek, his face was dark, his eyes filled with killing intent, so much so that it seemed like he wanted nothing more than to go on a killing spree on the capital’s Church grounds.
