Chapter 1099: Subduing the Corpse

The corpse king suddenly grabbed its head with both hands and let out a shrill, agonized roar. Bai stopped in front of it, his eyes flashing with ecstasy.

"It’s working!" Qin Sang was equally overjoyed.

Through the Heavenly Corpse Talisman, Bai was actually able to affect the corpse king.

Qin Sang continued to control the ebony sword, slashing toward the back of the corpse king’s neck. The corpse king howled furiously.

Whether Bai’s action had stirred unbearable memories or inflicted unbearable pain, the corpse king had come to see Bai as a mortal enemy.

Sword qi swept toward it, yet the corpse king still fixed its blood-red eyes on Bai, hatred seething within them.

Bang! The sword wheel struck the corpse king, tearing apart the corpse qi around its body but failing to harm its true form.

The corpse king did not even glance back, completely ignoring the sneak attack.

Seeing this, Bai dared not hesitate. He continuously activated the Heavenly Corpse Talisman within the corpse king’s body, merging his form with ghost qi and retreating swiftly.

When Qin Sang noticed that the corpse king ignored him, he sneered inwardly. With a flick of his sleeve, the devilish banner appeared before him.

It was not yet the time to end this battle. Qin Sang temporarily drew out nine of the banners while quietly readying the remaining three.

The Devilish Flames of Nine Hells surged forth, transforming into flaming spears. A sharp crackling filled the air as the surrounding ghost qi was seared away, reduced to nothing.

Go! With a thought, Qin Sang lifted his hand.

A flaming spear shot straight toward the corpse king’s back.

Bang! As expected, the corpse king shattered the spear, but at once, the boundless Devilish Flames of Nine Hells followed, engulfing it before it could react.

In an instant, the corpse king was wrapped in roaring flames. The aura of the devilish flames flared without restraint!

Screaming in pain, the corpse king sensed danger and finally ceased underestimating its tormentor. Its corpse qi burst forth violently, forcing its way through the devilish flames.

After a brief clash, all the black fur on the corpse king’s body was burned clean away, leaving it looking rather wretched, though its flesh remained unscathed.

Bai seized the chance to speed up. Between the corpse king’s brows, a faint talismanic shadow flickered, bringing it even greater agony.

The corpse king roared madly and continued its relentless pursuit. It was a perilous struggle.

Fortunately, Bai had merged with ghost qi, his evasion speed astonishingly fast. And with Qin Sang constantly creating distractions, Bai managed to hold on.

As time passed, the corpse qi around the corpse king grew thinner, its eyes lost some of their blood-red glow, and its speed dropped slightly. The two men found themselves with more room to maneuver.

Even Qin Sang had not expected the process to go so smoothly. At its peak, the corpse king was no stronger than an early-stage Spiritual Infant cultivator. With the Heavenly Corpse Talisman weakening it, its power had greatly diminished and posed no grave threat for the moment.

However, capturing it would still require considerable effort. Ordinary methods could barely scratch its body.

Soon, Bai’s urgent voice reached Qin Sang’s ears. "It’s reaching its limit! The creature is still resisting, but if this drags on too long, the Heavenly Corpse Talisman’s effect will weaken. I’ll keep it occupied. Find a chance to strike!"

Qin Sang nodded and quietly drew out the remaining three banners. He swallowed the Soul-Cleansing Liquid and a pill to replenish his true essence.

Glancing forward, he saw that the battlefield had shifted to the center of the pit, where the corpse king’s lair was located. The tide had turned. Bai was now capable of holding his ground against the corpse king.

Though the corpse king raged and unleashed every move it knew, it still struggled to harm Bai, who was shielded by the tortoise shell.

Likewise, Bai found it difficult to injure the corpse king. The ghost qi sabers and swords he summoned could pierce the corpse qi, but when they landed on its flesh, they left only superficial wounds.

Surveying the area, Qin Sang quietly moved to the pit’s edge, staying out of the corpse king’s sight. He began setting up the array, arranging the twelve devilish banners in secret!

Once the banners were in place, they flapped violently. Only then did Qin Sang’s expression ease; he secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

He had been seventy to eighty percent confident, yet worried he might lose control of the banners and ruin everything.

Fortunately, with prior experience, his control over both the banner array and the fire lotus was now far superior. The drain from activating the devilish flames was manageable, and the Soul-Cleansing Liquid and pills would sustain him.

While finishing the setup, Qin Sang transmitted a message to Bai.

Boom! Boom! Boom! Thunderous explosions echoed from the depths of the pit.

Bai’s battle with the corpse king grew ever fiercer. On the surface, Bai’s momentum even surpassed the corpse king’s. Endless ghost qi surged toward him, forming massive waves that crashed against the corpse king.

The corpse king’s body gleamed with a metallic luster, enduring the onslaught by brute force as it pushed forward, its ferocity undiminished.

Feigning weakness, Bai retreated steadily yet purposefully, drawing the corpse king closer to Qin Sang’s hidden position.

In the next instant, the twelve-banner array was complete!

As soon as the array solidified, Qin Sang’s eyes snapped open. He shouted through voice transmission, "Now!"

Whoosh! The banners resonated in unison.

Streams of devilish flames shot out from each banner, converging at the array’s center into a blazing inferno. Before it fully condensed, Qin Sang pointed his finger, sending the fireball hurtling straight toward the corpse king!

That single strike drained nearly all his true essence and spiritual consciousness. If the corpse king targeted him now, he would have no strength left to resist.

A flash of white light cut across the battlefield. The white crane arrived just in time, carrying Qin Sang away from the battlefield.

The corpse king was not completely without intelligence.

Having suffered from the Devilish Flames of Nine Hells once before, the moment it saw the flames again and sensed a power far more terrifying than before, its blood-red eyes flickered, and it actually attempted to retreat.

Bai had long anticipated this. He immediately stopped retreating and counterattacked the corpse king.

"Condense!" Bai shouted, and the surrounding ghost qi surged wildly toward the corpse king. The ghost qi streamed together like countless shackles, forming a cage around it.

The two coordinated seamlessly, leaving the corpse king no room to react. Even restraining it for a single instant would be enough.

The Devilish Flames of Nine Hells followed right behind!

Boom! The Devilish Flames of Nine Hells erupted!

Blazing fire scattered in all directions, plunging the battlefield into chaos as black devilish flames spread everywhere.

The corpse king stood at the very center of the explosion, its form completely obscured. Then, a deafening and agonized roar burst from within. The devilish flames quaked. The corpse king was still alive.

Bai was not surprised. His eyes remained fixed on the heart of the devilish flames.

Qin Sang had already lost his strength to fight. If even this strike failed to heavily injure the corpse king, there would be no point in continuing the battle.

At last, the corpse king broke through the flames. When Bai saw its current state, joy flickered uncontrollably in his eyes.

The corpse king’s body was riddled with wounds. Its skin was cracked all over, its chest torn open by the blast, revealing shattered bones within. Half its face was ripped apart, and one of its eyes was gone. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

It looked even more vicious and terrifying, yet its aura was clearly weakening!

Bai threw back his head and laughed wildly, twisting his body as he switched from defense to offense! Meanwhile, Qin Sang hid far away, too drained to fight again.

Since Bai had not sent any signal for help, it meant the situation was firmly under control. Qin Sang saved his remaining drop of Jade Liquid of Three Radiances, sat cross-legged on the ground, and began recovering with pills and spirit stones.

After a brief meditation, Qin Sang summoned the Sky-Eyed Butterfly to guard him and instructed Bai’s white crane to assist Bai, ending the fight swiftly.

In the depths of the pit, the battle raged on. The corpse king’s roars echoed again and again, though they had grown hollow and weak.

After some time, the howls finally ceased. Qin Sang ended his meditation, opened his eyes, and stood up. He got up just in time to see Bai flying over swiftly, clutching the corpse king’s mangled body in his hand.
