Full-Time Public Enemy

The massive Insect Queen was already mortally wounded and breathing laboriously. It attempted to lift one of its insect legs in a feeble and terrified motion before letting it fall, powerless.

Chen Gu also awakened from that slippery state of mutating into something else, yet he felt no trace of relief. Instead, a strong chill rose rapidly from his coccyx, traveling up his spine to the back of his head. His entire back was instantly soaked with cold sweat.

Chen Gu was very familiar with this powerful aura. Its owner had chased him across tens of millions of miles before.

Chen Gu's body stiffened as he turned around with great difficulty. The client girl still stood there, calm and indifferent. Her facial mask had been removed, revealing a visage so exotic by human aesthetic standards it could only be described as otherworldly: silver hair, silver eyes.

Facing Chen Gu's ghastly expression, the client girl turned to him and blossomed into a smile as warm as spring flowers.

Xulong and the other professional mercenaries had also recognized the source of this terrifying power. Their gazes shifted from the Insect Queen to the client girl. "You…"

They didn't know what to say, but Chen Gu did.

He sighed softly, then asked, "For Your Excellency to have lived until now, you truly are no ordinary being."

The client girl nodded in response. "Reunited with an old acquaintance, Chen Gu. You should be a bit happier, not look as if you're about to be scared to death."

Chen Gu noticed that while she was talking to him, her silver eyes remained fixed on the huge stone. She didn't even seem to care about the Insect Queen lying to the side.

Just as this thought crossed his mind, the client girl lightly lifted her hand. Fingers spread wide, she viciously clenched them in the direction of the Insect Queen.

A substance mingled with multicolored energy light flew out from the Insect Queen's head. Its body convulsed, and its gigantic frame gradually lost the vitality a living organism should possess. It was as if a supremely beautiful woman had turned into a mummy in the blink of an eye.

After absorbing these special substances, a hazy light veiled the client girl's silver pupils. She digested it quickly and turned her head slightly, seemingly satisfied. "A bit more thoughtful than other queens," she commented. "Not bad."

Chen Gu had calmed down. Looking at the large stone, he asked, "So… what exactly is that? What is the truth buried within the ruins of this temple?"

For the first time, the client girl regarded Chen Gu seriously. Her silver pupils looked pure and innocent, but Chen Gu clearly felt an unfathomable power scan him completely, inside and out, leaving him with almost no privacy or secrets.

The client girl glanced at them with interest. "You want to take your fee and leave now?"

Xulong mustered a great deal of self-control to keep himself from quivering like chaff in the wind. He forced a smile. "Your Excellency is so powerful; we were overreaching. Of course, we wouldn't dare think of the rewards…"

The client girl said indifferently, "Do you think I would freeload?"

Xulong couldn't hold back any longer. The Sixth Energy Level mercenary dropped to his knees with a THUD, bowing deeply. "We would never dare harbor such thoughts! Truly, not at all…"

"KEKEKE—" The client girl suddenly laughed. "If I don't give you your compensation, wouldn't that mean breaking our contract? By refusing your fee, you would be tarnishing my reputation."
