Chen Gu speculated that there was a one-way link between these field commanders and the mutant Insect Race. The commanders could issue telepathic commands to the Mutants, but the Mutants could only receive them, unable to provide any feedback.

This was to insulate the commanders from mutation as much as possible.

Then, through this layer of insulation provided by the commanders, the impact of mutations on the Empress was minimized as much as possible.

The Biological Nuclear Explosion followed. Those insects that hadn't completed their transformations, along with other ordinary insects nearby, were instantly obliterated by the violent force.

However, the insect that had completed its mutation was merely slammed violently against the stone wall by the concussive force. The wall instantly shattered, but this Mutant was not pulverized.

The intense explosion triggered a series of collapses. Huge cracks spiderwebbed across the cave ceiling, and stones of all sizes rained down. More than half of the underground hall caved in.

Even the cave entrance was almost buried by rubble.

As Chen Gu and the others charged out from the passage behind the cave entrance, the shockwave from the Biological Nuclear Explosion followed close behind. This section of the cave also shook violently.

Chen Gu continued swiftly forward, on a direct collision course with the stone altar, showing no hesitation. Then, something strange occurred: Chen Gu passed right through the stone altar!

Chen Gu breathed a sigh of relief. My guess was correct: the stone altar and the statue aren't real—at least not physically present here.
