Flash Marriage: My Penniless Billionaire Husband
Chapter 28: I Don’t Lack Of Money
Janice felt sympathetic for Lucy. However, she had barely met her quota. Plus, she had to feed one more mouth now. There was no way she could help.
So, she said, "It doesn’t matter. Lucy, we’ll continue to work hard next month."
Lucy didn’t say anything, but she was a little dissatisfied with Janice’s nonchalant response.
After all, in the past, if she whined when she met something like this, Janice would give her some articles to hit her quota. But now, she didn’t even mention it.
Once someone was used to being taken care of, she would not want to put in any effort herself. Lucy was such a person. She always wanted to get things done without much effort.
This month, Janice undoubtedly got her bonus.
After work, she called Christopher in a good mood. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
"Hey, are you at home? Get changed and I’ll take you for some dinner." Janice said happily.
On the other side of the phone, Christopher heard her voice and frowned. "What happened today? Why are you so happy?"
"I’m not telling you, just come."
Janice put away the phone and walked out alone. She lifted her head towards the sky and greedily sucked in the fresh air.
When Christopher arrived, the two of them entered a small local restaurant.
Usually, Janice was reluctant to come here. However, today she had her bonus, so it would be fun to splurge a bit.
She looked at Christopher and said, "Chris, I’ll buy whatever you want to eat today." Janice smiled without a care, and her smile was contagious.
Christopher liked her smile, but he couldn’t help teasing her. "Is that so? When the time comes, will we have to run away again?"
Janice stuck out her tongue. "No, I promise we won’t. Trust me." Christopher didn’t say anything else. He quickly ordered from the menu.
While waiting for the food, Janice mysteriously took out several envelopes from her bag and placed them on the table one by one.
Christopher stared at her actions in confusion. "This is..."
Janice gave a mysterious smile, then picked up the envelope on the side and handed it to Christopher. "This is yours."
"Mine?"
Christopher was surprised.
"Yes, this is your allowance."
Seeing Christopher didn’t pick it up, Janice urged him.
"Take it. We’ve agreed that I’ll support you."
For fear of being heard and to prevent Christopher from being embarrassed, Janice deliberately lowered her voice.
Christopher almost choked on his own saliva.
To think she took it seriously.
"What about these?"
He frowned.
Janice picked them up one by one. "This is our living expenses for next month. This is our daily travel expenses, and this is for backup in the event of an emergency."
Seeing that she had sorted out each envelope, Christopher instantly felt that it was a very wrong thing to conceal his identity. To think that it would make his little wife live so miserably.
"What about your allowance?"
Janice was stunned for a moment. Then, she said, "I don’t need it. I don’t need to buy clothes or bags next month. Besides, I have shoes and enough cosmetics. I don’t need anything."
Christopher frowned and was about to say something.
Janice thought of something and said, "By the way, tell me what else you need. We just got married, and I don’t know your needs very well."
"Janice, actually I..."
"It doesn’t matter, as long as it’s something within my means."
Janice’s words were particularly sincere.
Christopher wanted to say that he didn’t lack money and that he didn’t need Janice’s support. However, when he saw the sincerity in Janice’s eyes, he couldn’t bear to destroy it.
"Mr. Bateman, what a coincidence. You’re here too." At this moment, a voice suddenly sounded overhead.
...
Christopher jolted. He then turned his head and saw a young man in his twenties.
Christopher didn’t have any recollection of this person.
"You are..."
"What’s wrong, Andy?"
A middle-aged man walked over.
Only then did the man named Andy walk over and say respectfully, "Mr. Taylor, I happened to see Mr. Bateman."
"Is that so?" Gary Taylor looked in the direction of Andy and saw Christopher Bateman sitting in his seat.
When Gary looked over, Christopher also saw him. He was stunned for a moment.
His first reaction was to look at Janice, who was sitting opposite him.
Janice was blinking with shocked eyes between him and this other man.
She seemed to be curious about their relationship.
Thinking of his true identity that he had hidden from Janice, before Gary came over, Christopher said to Janice, "I saw an acquaintance, I’ll go over and say hello."
Janice nodded her head dazedly. She watched as Christopher walked over, but she couldn’t help but feel curious. It was strange. How did Christopher know Director Taylor?
On the other side, Christopher nodded at Gary.
"Ah, you’re also here for dinner."
"Yes, I have an appointment with a friend. When did you come back? I didn’t hear your father mention it." Gary said with a smile.
Christopher said, "I’ve been back for a while."
Gary didn’t say anything more. He just offered for Christopher to come to have dinner at his home, and then left to go to the other side of the restaurant.
Christopher stood there and watched Gary walk away. Only then did he let out a sigh of relief.
When he returned to the table, he met Janice’s surprised gaze. "Christopher, how did you know Director Taylor from our TV station?"
Christopher paused for a moment and said, "I went to his house for dinner before, his son was my classmate."
"Oh, I see."
Hearing Christopher’s explanation, Janice didn’t dwell on it further.
"By the way, where were we?"
Christopher quickly changed the topic.
Janice then said, "We were discussing your needs."
Christopher stared at her seriously and said, "I need you to put these away and have a good meal."
As he spoke, he kept the envelopes on the table and handed them back to her.
Janice thought about it and agreed. It was more important to eat first.
She took the envelopes and returned them to her bag. Inside, there was another envelope that had not been taken out. It contained Christopher’s treatment fee.
However, she couldn’t tell Christopher about this.
"Janice, in fact, I’ve always wanted to ask you a question."
Halfway through the meal, Christopher spoke.
Janice nodded. "Go ahead."
Christopher stared at her and paused. "Why do you detest rich people so much?"
Christopher was a little curious. After all, in his mind, most of the girls were very materialistic. Although he had never been in contact with many women, Janice was definitely unusual and rare.
Therefore, he really wanted to know why she didn’t want him to be rich.
Janice did not answer immediately. She toyed with her salad with a fork, as if she was distressed.
Seeing this, Christopher said, "It doesn’t matter if you don’t want to say."
Janice shook her head. "It’s nothing. I’ve just seen too many people and things around me since I was a child."
She put down the fork and continued, "My parents started their business from scratch. At first, when they were not very wealthy, their relationship was always very good. They were the kind of loving couple that everyone admired."
